Signed a new deal and loaned out to Como, who play in Serie C https://www.watfordfc.com/news/official-new-deal-loan-for-agyakwa
I thought he actually looked decent in that Newport game. I'd have sent Sierralta to Como and hung onto Agyakwa instead.
Excellent move for the lad. He'll learn a lot at Como and get some high level football to put him in the picture for a PL return next season after we're promoted. The brilliant youngster conveyor belt continues!
Yeah, he's a talent, a bit nervous and anonymous against Oxford, but good against Newport despite all the chaos going on around him. I don't know if he's better than Sierralta, but for him to get games is a good thing, wouldn't want to stall his career for the sake of Sierralta
He could be pony and he'd still have looked better than Sierralta in those games to be fair. Yeah agree generally - I have no idea about the quality of Serie C, but I imagine it is better than sending him out on loan to one of the long non league clubs.
Agyakwa's loan terminated early. https://www.watfordfc.com/news/academy-agyakwa-returns-from-italy-loan Derek Agyakwa has returned to Watford FC from his loan spell at Italian third division side Como. The Under-23 centre-back joined the Hornets in January 2020 from FC Twente and made his first-team debut in September. Agyakwa joined Como on loan the following month and made four Serie C appearances before it was mutually agreed he would return to Watford.
It's a bit of a lottery having players out on loan right now though. So many lower league games are being postponed because of Covid-19 it may benefit the players as much staying at their parent clubs.
Agyakwa not the only loanee leaving Como this month. https://www.laprovinciadicomo.it/st...a-tre-inglesi-difesa-idea-germoni_1381913_11/ Young QPR winger Amrit Bansal-McNulty has been sent back too while ex-Everton defender Matty Foulds has had his contract terminated and leaves the Italians for 'personal reasons'.
All part of the Pozzo master plan. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, our Capoue replacement!!! Gino has done it again! Genius!!
I think generally Covid is having an effect as I can't remember so many loan players being recalled as I'm seeing this month. Presumably as more & more clubs are hit and squads become depleted, coaches will want as many players available to pick from even if it is U23s/academy players to fill bench spots. I'm guessing more lower and non-league matches will be postponed so actual game time will be lessened for loaned players too. As for Agyakwa, I'm not so sure Covid is the main reason. Despite Como playing fairly regularly, he isn't. Wasn't guaranteed a start upon joining and has never really established himself since. He didn't help his cause by getting sent off in his last appearance either and he hasn't made it onto the pitch since, and that was on November 25th! According to the link I put in post #17 Como were said to be signing another defender on loan, though to be fair he appears to be a left-back so that may not be relevant to Agyakwa's recall.
Was a bit anonymous against Oxford, but I thought he was alright against Newport, certainly were worse players on the pitch that day!
He was still 18 when he played a couple of games for us, I thought he seemed fairly composed and showed some promise.
What's happened to this guy then? Did he find another loan away or is he in the U23s this season then? @The Recluse?
Quite liked him in the League Cup games, though didn't do much on loan in the Italian lower leagues and doesn't seem to have been much of a factor in the U23s. Conference loan for him next season?
