    DEMERIT: 'YOUNG ABSENCE HURT US'

AMERICAN centre-back Jay DeMerit said the lack of star playmaker Ashley Young played a big part in the Hornets' downfall at the hands of Sheffield United on Tuesday evening.

Young was struck down with illness before the crunch Blades clash, and DeMerit cited his absence as a key factor in Watford's non-performance.
"He was ill when we came in to go over some game stuff on the morning and he went off to see if he could sleep it off but unfortunately it wasn't to be," said the Watford defender.
"We definitely lacked firepower up front which hurt us, not only to keep the ball in the final third, but we needed try to get that finishing touch and we just didn't have it.
"I think it's an actual fact that when one of your best players is missing, and we already have a couple missing, it doesn't help.
"The guys come in to do their jobs. But when you get to this point of the season and you're not running at full strength, and people pull out, it's a big blow."
DeMerit admitted the mood was one of quiet contemplation in the dressing room afterwards.
"It was kind of sombre pretty much, he said, adding, "I think we are all disappointed, and to concede in the 88th minute was a tough pill to swallow, but we will bounce back like we always do.
"It was just one of those performances we could not afford to have and that's exactly what happened.
"We knew it was going to be a battle and it was. It was pretty ugly at times and it was down to that somebody who could do that little bit extra and unfortunately it was them tonight. They deserved to win."

Just shows how limited we are without King,Young or Bouazza really in the same match.

Very true, we should not rely on 1 or 2 players or we will be stuffed

He's right it hurt us alot! Was saying to my mate half way through the second half that all we need is Young out there, that he would be the difference between the two teams! Both sides lacked quality and Young would have been the only one of the 22 out there that would have won the game! Alas...

you say we shouldnt rely on 3 players but we dont, we rely different playes for different things, its just that without king, young and bouazza we had little creativity and flair, if Man U were to lose ronaldo rooney and giggs they would also lack flair, obviously not as much as we miss our players but they have a multimillion pound squad with depth, unlike us (through no fault of our own, - vi*****)

Good point! We missed out 4 best players tuesday night

chelsea losing: drogba, lampard, terry and essien
Manure losing: rooney, ronaldo, giggs and ferdinand
arsenal losing: henry, fabregas, van persie and gallas
liverpool losing: gerrard, alonso, kuyt and carragher

These sides would struggle without their 4 best players...it's just annoying that with a small squad our 4 best players were out for the biggest game of the season!!

Oh well...at least Hameur and Youngy will be back for City!

Absolutley! Would never have thought i'd see that from a Boothroyd team! That's what we pride ourselves on and that's what we got promoted on!

What really annoyed me was the fact he asked the fans to sing up but he couldn't get his players to perform or get his tactics/team selection/formation right!

Was a shocking night from start to finish!

    Is Tommy Smith.

By the way, whats wrong with him being in the pub 20 minutes after the game? You were, if you saw him.

He was just as entitled to drown his sorrows as you were.

    Your point is?

The bloke is human, he is entitled to unwind after WORK, the same as the rest of us.

The way you fellas are talking, he should have been walking around in sack cloth and ashes!

He had just had a bad day at the office, if he was to dwell too much on it, it could break his confidence.

I for one am glad he was not too down in the dumps, hopefully that means he will bounce back quickly, along with the rest of the team.

Don't forget, he is a local lad, with mates outside the team, so he is much more likely to be seen out in public than many of his team mates, and I say good luck to him.

That's your opinion and I have my views, but I won't express them on here, people that know me will know what i think of him...

    berkshirehorn presumably I upset/disappointed someone

I for one think just 20 minutes after the game he should have been as far down in the dumps as the rest of us. To me this shows a lack of concern, not to mention common sense.

    You miss the point.

What Noddy does with anyone in his own time is his business and I personally couldn't give a to$$ what that is.

But being in the pub so quickly after loosing our biggest game since Cardiff stinks.

i am not saying lock them in a dressing room for two hours and throw cups of tea around.

But i seem to remember press articles, emails etc asking for passion and commitment from the fans and "we" certainly didn't get the same back from the players with that lackluster performance so you would have expected something to be said after loosing but it appears nothing was said, don't forget it would have taken him, 5 mins to get to his car at the bottom of occupation road, he would then have to get through all the traffic and yet he got there so quickly.

they at least should be kept for a while to de-brief and talk about what went wrong. 20 mins after the match, did he not have a shower the dirty ****

Aidy does his debrief and match analysis the next working day as he likes composure and reflection, rather than spur of the moment reaction.

In a way the fans are similar -gutted after the game, appaleed and very down... day or two later - on reflection all scenarios can be looked at - and although no fan doubts it was our worst performance under Aidy - people were starting being optimistic, with quotes like " well we can't play that bad again this season".

No worries mate I live in Devon and didn't have a clue what he was going on about either. I have been a supporter for 35 years and Noddy is more in tune with that bloke called holder. Did anyone mention Xmas and Slade !!!

You are more than welcome on here :) :)
