Well reaching the Cup final and winning it would create a legacy. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...s-exciting-than-the-chance-to-build-a-legacy/ But I agree we don't want it just to be a one off.
He said roughly (missed the begining) that Watford were being disresepcted by people like Southgate who didn’t pick players like Hughes and Foster because they only played for Watford On talk sport Goff generally agred, , the other ****head got on his high horse , didn’t listen to what deeney said and made out he had a chip on his shoulder
Nonsense. In recent matches I think that Southgate has picked players from Southampton, Everton, Burnley, Bournemouth, West Ham, Leicester, Stoke, Brighton, and even Borussia Dortmund !
He also picked Keane. I don't know what your point is. My point is that I disagree with the claim in an earlier post that "England managers don't take much notice of players outside the top 6"
I think Troys point was that the media and Southgate didn’t respect what watford had done and continued to assume that Watford and its players were not worthy of selection Southgate has to pick England players out of the top 6 as their aren’t that many England players in the top 6 , however from my perspective the selection does appear to be from the perceived bigger clubs and the well known(media darlings) players from non top six clubs But also how does a Chelsea player that has never started a pl game (until this week) get into the first team over England players in the premiere league that start week in week out
He has played 209 mins ( I dint know this just looked it up) in the premier league all year , Will Hughes as an example has played 180 mins in the last 7 days. I am sure he is very good but he isnt being picked on merit or current performance - he hasn’t played enough to demonstrate any
Foster retired from internationals, so why Troy mouths off about him also as some have commented Southgate has picked players from unfashionable clubs. Great to see Troy defend the club and players and as much as I personally don’t rate Southgate I think Troy could of came out with a different approach. And continue to do his talking and get the players also to perform on the pitch start winning trophies qualifying for Europe so they can’t be ignored. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't think you can really compare Hudson-Odoi with Will Hughes, both very different players with very different skill sets and it's down to the manager to pick which skillset he wants to utilise.
Because he’s better? Some will take that the wrong way - but due to the small pool to pick from, Southgate has to go for talent, not just number of appearances. It’s working so far so it’s hard to criticise. I firmly believe had Chalobah not for injured, he’d likely be in the England XI by now. I think Hughes was likely on the cusp but his form dipped and he’s only just getting back to form. What Deeney says holds weight - maybe we are overlooked a bit, and that’s likely down to reputation. But Bournemouth have a reputation similar to ours in stature, but with bigger praise about style - they’ve had Cook and Wilson. No more from what I can see. We are what we are. Keep up the gradual build. Keep slowly changing perceptions under Gracia - the rest will follow.
Of course it's true, you can't take a snap shot in time and claim that's the way it is. Go back over the last 10 major tournaments and tell me how many players were in the squad from teams outside the top 6. I'm going from memory but for Russia were there any at all? Maguire, couple of keepers, that's about it I think. Edit Russia 2018 3 / 23 Euro 2016 4 / 23 2014 again 4 / 23 2012 3 / 23 2010 5 / 23 2006 0 / 23 2004 3 / 23 Everton account for about half of these.
He already looked it for most of the match against Fulham. I commented that he was struggling after 10 minutes. Good thing Fulham have such a shambolic defence, but he needs to be at his very best again somehow at the weekend to do anything vs Wolves' back three.
I think given the much publicised (and true) comments about how much Foster trains these days, I’d say it’s very unlikely he’d accept a call from Southgate to even be No.1 now.
Here is the Deeney Telegraph interview: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...i-never-dreamt-footballer-wanted-fireman/amp/
Basically says that he thinks Wolves are the worst and ugliest squad in the PL and that we only have to show up to win. We are also going to try and injure Neves. That's there team talk done! Ffs
