Absolutely right and I support this 100%. Stop the game is the only way anything will ever get done. It's time to get militant. Abandon it. Get changed, get on the bus and go home. All bets voided for the gambling companies will get them shouting. Other football figures will be forced to take a position - especially if games keep getting stopped.

I must say also that considering it's just football frippery where the pundits are almost entirely full of wind and bombast, Troy's wise words on the subject were so good that I even called our 10 year old, 4Cyclones Kremlin who's been suffering a bit of late, to read them.

"There's a lot of things you can call me [...] but if you racially abuse me, I'm not going to stand there and take it. If I turn around and get physical with that person, I get in trouble and the club gets in trouble, so the only thing I can do in that moment is report it and leave."

I drummed that last bit into him hard. Even though it's tempting, you can't go after them or you end up being the one that's in trouble.

All well and good but wait til fans start to use it to games abandoned when their side is 2 down with 5 mins to go....

I'm sure if we're winning comfortably at Millwall the players would decide the best way to stick it up them would be to carry on.

Would not agree. The football is irrelevant. The score is irrelevant. Walk off. It's more important.

I'm sure anyway, the league are hardly going to award them the points. In fact, they ought to be fined points.

Well done Troy. I'm with you 100 per cent. But before you take your jock strap off and jump back in the 'Lambo' please learn the difference between racism and expressing opposition to a political movement whose divisive and extreme agenda and violent followers are anathema to liberal-minded people across this green and pleasant land.

I don't know how many times you need telling or if you're ignoring it for a specific reason but the players aren't kneeling for BLM.

This needs to be made clearer it's obvious that some do not know. Including the writer the article that is linked in the first post.

That being said, completely agree with his sentiment.

I would love to see this happen, it's long overdue. I'd also like to see Watford walk off if our own fans are shouting racist abuse from the stands which I've seen first hand.

Taking the knee is great especially now crowds are coming back but taking the walk is far more powerful.

All jokes aside, walking off the pitch would 100% be the right thing to do, personally i've been frustrated in the past seeing teams decide not to do this in the face of racial abuse from the stands (e.g. England away against some Eastern European nations)

I was impressed by how clear you are in your mind about this, Reids. Consequently, I looked at 11 websites for their explanations of why players 'take the knee'. Two of the sites did not discuss the matter in these terms. The other nine were Wales Today, The Independent, Chronicle Live, Daily Mail, Morning Star, Capital FM, wio news, The Athletic and Talksport. As you can see, they are a diverse selection. In fact they were the first nine chosen (with the understanding that a couple of other websites were in effect just a shower of clickbait ads and were ignored). All of them described taking the knee as an expression of solidarity with Black Lives Matter (including the capital letters).
So it would seem that either:
There is considerable and widespread confusion in the minds of many people, including professional reporters, about what Black Lives Matter stands for. Or..
There is considerable confusion in the minds of the players as to what it stands for. Or..
There is concerted and coherent misrepresentation by the press of what the players are thinking. Or..
There really is considerable support for an organisation that loudly calls for the violent overthrow of society as we experience it in The West; A proto-anarchist revolutionary group, principally based in the USA, and which uses anti-racism as one of its ostensible causes celebre; and which espouses violence. Or..
That the majority of players do this thing because it is what the others do and they fear professional and social ostracism if they do not join in. Or..
That the clubs and possibly the players feel it is good PR.
There was, in fairness, some additional and in some cases thoughtful discussion about the matter, particularly in the Talksport site.
    Not perhaps so clear, then.

It is interesting how F1 has evolved its message on this and some drivers kneel and some don't.

An example of press coverage before the British GP - https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...prix-twitter-black-lives-matter-a9659536.html

    From the article.
“I am not racist and I absolutely hate racism. Racism is disgusting.

“Stop putting me in the same group as these disgusting people that are discriminating others because of their skin colour, religion or gender. I'm not part of them and I never will. I've always been respectful to everyone and that should be the standard in today's world.”

Leclerc’s decision stems from his desire not to be linked to any political messages that have been attached to the Black Lives Matter movement, which is understood to be the reasoning given by all seven drivers who stood last weekend for their choice. But that has also been spun against Leclerc to claim that he is against those political stances, which he has taken great offence to.

If Deeney wants to be centre of attention he can say something controversial about literally anything else on his radio show thing.

I understand why players would want to walk off but it gets the abusers what they want. It shows the player heard and it shows that it’s upset them which is the intention. The key is finding the perpetrators and banning them for life.

I used to think this as well. And I still don’t disagree with it - but as much as anything now, football is entertainment. If they walk off and choose to stop the entertainment, that will be a huge incentive for clubs to root out perpetrators.

It's tricky. Anybody that shouts racial abuse should be sought out and punished, as TUT says, banning for life.

But as some have alluded to on here, when there is any form of abuse, then it is quite often best if the "receiver" can show that they are not bothered enough to react. What the abuser/bully/perp wants is a reaction, and walking off the pitch certainly shows a reaction and, in my view, means that the abusing racist has won. And in a practical sense, the abusing will stop if the players are back in the changing room, making the identification of the racists far more difficult.

But I am not in favour of Deeney speaking out in this way. In my view, it is encouraging the racists as they will likely see it like a red rag to a bull.

Millwall have allocated their balloted tickets for two games at a time - so those who booed players taking a knee will be back in the stadium tonight. A few might heed the press coverage and stop - but it was pretty loud so it’s hard to imagine there won’t be some who will boo it again.

I think this one since the players don't have BLM logos on their shirt and instead have Not Today or Any Day logos on, which is also what they're kneeling in support of - so BLM isn't mentioned at all. Or the press are doing it on purpose (the most likely explanation) as they want to link in BLM as it gets the gammons all angry and gets them click throughs and comments.

That is a very fine line to sit on.
Millwall fans being derogatory and abusive towards peaceful players kneeling in solidarity for a cause that is antiracist. Hmmm. It's quite racisty in my books. If in doubt you keep your mouth shut. You can debate whether you agree with it or not afterwards. But Millwall fans taking the active decision to do something at that moment. That isn't about free speech its simply provocative and disrespectful

  27. QPR had stopped the knee-taking but will reinstate at Millwall this week in view of what happened on Saturday.

    Fair play to them.

To avoid further confusion I think it is essential that the FA and the clubs issue a full and unequivocal apology to fans for aligning the game so closely with the Black Lives Matter movement over the summer. It would also help if players used their high profile to publicly denounce BLM at every opportunity. If fans remain in any way suspicious that taking a knee is a salute to BLM and its vile aims the booing will continue and all the good work that has been done to reduce racial intolerance will have been wasted

Yeah, the Millwall fans aren't racist they just famously won't stand for rioting, violence, and causing trouble with the police like the BLM organisation.

Doesn't taking the knee pre-date BLM and goes back to Colin Kaepernick, who did so as a silent protest against racial disparity and police brutality in 2016?

I can see why it is easier to dismiss those who booed taking a knee as simply small minded racists than it is to actually engage with them and try to understand their views and then put a counter argument, but I'm not sure this approach does much to move the discussion forward or reduce racial tension

Exactly, it seems you can tell these people repeatedly over and over again they’re aren’t aligning themselves with, or kneeling in support of a Marxist movement, but oddly they don’t seem to believe it. Pretty convenient if you’re a racist isn’t it, it’s a win win, you can pretend you aren’t racist and if you get your own way you get racism out of the spotlight.
