Nugent + 3 loan players is a possibility, but so is me getting a date with Jessica Simpson (just as likely).

"Your missing the main point that that money would use ALL of our transfer funds available"

I didnt realise £4.5million was our entire transfer budget.

Nugent at that price would be more of an investment, as IMO was Shittu...

Francis was brought in purely for experience, as was Powell.....

Based on what we didnt spend last year and the huge windfall afforded if we stay up due to increased TV revenue, our budget should surely be nearer the £10mil mark!!!

Did you not see the financial report?
We have in the region of 4 to 5 million afforded for transfers.

we may have 4 to 5 million , but is that 5 million up front now and the rest spread over the length of the contracts , giving us up to 10 million squids to spend . Or 2.5 million now and the ret over the length of the contact giving us 5 million in total

If we were to buy DN it should have been done the day after Cardiff as:

    1. His price would have been lower
    2. We would have had his goals/cover for the 1st half of the season
    3. PNE would not have been flying in the CCC
    4. It would nave been easier to tempt a player to a team not rooted to the foot of the Prem
    5. He would have bonded with his team mates pre-season
    6. He would have had the back end of the summer to eBay his racing pidgeons and whippets.

So easy to be a 'hindsight' manager .....

  7. berkshirehorn

    berkshirehorn presumably I upset/disappointed someone

Nugent won't come south and if he did he won't come here. We can't blow all our money on one player either.

in addition to the names mentioned i think easter at wycombe would be one for the future. he is very quick and confident.

The initial post read 4.5 mill up front plus...
Our available transfer funds are between 4 and 5 million, considering that there has been no official word even now that Nugent is a done deal that would lead me to believe that that 4.5 mill for nugent would come out of the money available.
Therefore in answer to your question if i am reading it correctly is no we only have 4 to 5 million to spend not 10 total... however i could misunderstand what you mean i am sure that we do not have 10 million in our coffers to spend.

Everyone has got their eye on Nugent... If Aidy pulls this off, then fair play, 21 gun salute, hats off!!!!

But I don't think we have a hope in hell....

DONE DEAL!!! Hope you are right!!! (hope i am wrong)

Nugent is now saying he won't be going anywhere, at least until the end of the season:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/p/preston/6166943.stm

Nugent wants to stay with Preston

Striker David Nugent has insisted he wants to remain a Preston player - at least until the end of the season.
Nugent is expected to attract bids from Premiership clubs when the transfer window reopens in January

But the 21-year-old said: "I like the speculation but I'm a Preston player. I want to stay here and try to get us into the Premiership.

"In an ideal world I would like to stay at Preston. At the very least I'd like to stop to the end of the season."

He added: "But I'm happy at Preston and want to get them to the Premiership."

I know we can often take the comments of players and agents with a pinch of salt but I really can't see what he has to gain by saying this unless he actually believes it and feels like that.

that wasn't thee full inteerview, he said "But I'm happy".
I thought the chairman want him to go?

According to the papers today Sheffield United will make a 6 million bid for him and are keen on David Healy as well which is no surprise at we know Colin loves strikers.

6 million on one player is a bit risky though no matter how much potential he has.

Is Nugent even really that great?!

Fair enough I haven't seen him play too many times, but I can see him getting knocked about by some of the Premiership's central defenders and he has only scored 5 goals so far this season (even Agyemang has scored more goals for Preston than him so far)!

Doris' scoring record in the Championship at this time last season was probably better.

Don't just accept everything you read. Obviously Nugent will tell the fans that he wants to stay.

However, as he rightly says, it's ultimately down to the Chairman and the Manager whether he stays and if a good bid comes in for him in January, particularly with them now slipping down the table a bit and Nugent not exactly setting the Championship on fire this season anyway, they could still accept it.

I think youve also gotto look at who would potentially make a bid for him.

So far the linked names appear to be

    Watford
    Sheff Utd
    Everton
    Middlesboro

Now unless there are others, that doesnt seem to be an awful lot!

Something else we shoudl remember, Billy Sharp was only released by Warnock for nothing just over a year ago and now he's hot property.
In the meantime, gobby Neil splashes out a fortune on that lump Akinbiyi who, a year later, he's trying to get rid of.

So when it comes to transfer dealings, i think its fair to say that Neil isnt the most astute when it comes to strikers and im sure would need to convince the board probably more than Aidy would!!

Aidy has actually said this weekend that if we need a player who is over priced but might fit the bill, it would be his job to beat up the board.

Strange thing to say really as its a fairly obvious statement. Cant help but think hes talking about Nugent!!

Cannot see the board letting Aidy spendso much on one player.

I get the distinct impression that they are going to try to sign any player we try to sign in an effort to stop us getting anyone.... seems anyone we are linked with as soon as its reported they get linked with him within days.
