I'm a fan of the sport, play a bit myslef.

Not so sure Sky's coverage in UHD is unnecessary though. Close-ups of the players pores leaking sweat is not a particularly compelling demonstration of high quality video.

To be honest I have thought the same about football

Seeing millions of individual blades of grass in unnaturally strong contrast makes me feel a bit sick

I had to laugh,I heard a reporter say a player had suffered with injuries.
How on earth does a darts player become injured, they don't DO anything!

Drank too much falling down water between matches?

You stand for extended periods of time (longer if you're hopeless at doubling out) with all of your considerable darts player's weight on one hip. Also you can get RSI in your elbow & shoulder.

    Since this:

You can't drink playing pro darts anymore.

I can hit at least one treble 20 when pissed. I cannot bend a free kick into the top corner or run in a straight line when pissed. Not a sport.

    * I’ll also add that I love snooker, play it every week (pissed). Also ain’t a sport.

Ah yes,I have this debate with my golf playing friends every now and then when I add golf to this batch.
Very difficult but no anything that doesn't include dynamic movement is a game, not a sport to me.
They get very umperty at this!

It does of course take a great deal of skill, hand/eye coordination and mental endurance. I agree about the dynamic movement, that’s what sets something apart as sport in my opinion.

I find it weird that events like shooting a handgun or a bow & arrow (archery I believe they call it) make it into the Olympics.

RSI on shoulder, elbow and wrist maybe? Darts is a great sport and one of the last that truly caters for your average working class family.

I'd say anything that requires some physical movement, hand / eye co-ordination or a skill that can be improved with practice, as long as it's directly competitive and has a defined goal, target or achievement. So weightlifting and throwing / firing sports do get in imho.

The question is do you include "sports" that are assessed against an arbitrary set of aesthetic criteria? Horse dancing, synchronised swimming. Rhythmic Gymnastics, etc?
OK they all require training and physical stamina or strength but is a judged set of arbitrary criteria a target or goal?

In that case you're good enough to make my Thursday night curry club team. If you every decided to commute down to civilisation you're welcome to rock up for some darts 'n' dhansak.

Making a competition out of something that isn't inherently competitive, doesn't make it a sport in the same way that teaching a parrot to oink doesn't make it a pig.

Mmm... so what’s the difference between a sport and a game?

Couldn’t Twister be classified as a sport? It requires physical movement and is competitive.

I will accept it as such when it's in the Olympics.

Sulijovic vs Sherrock was epic although the crowd needed to have a little more respect.

Difficult to get a few thousand pi**ed up geezers to show respect when she was kicking his backside.

Running requires less skill than darts. All it requires is doing what most of us do every day but faster, yet it is the centrepiece of any Olympics.

The fascination of darts is not actually in the skill of the players. They can all throw a dart into the right area of the board. The difficulty is doing it repetitively in the face of mental doubt. When they are on top of that a player can effortlessly plonk three darts in the treble 20, but minutes later the doubt can return and hitting the same target seems impossible.

Yep. PDC events have always been built around crowd being respectful haven't they?
