Can’t believe someone like Fulham or West Brom has not taken an interest in Danny! Even on his rumoured wages offer him a contract with a relegation release clause and he is yours.
If the rumours are true that we want his release clause activated, I doubt anyone will pay £5.5m. The problem is, players like Welbeck will back themselves to be good and stay fit - and will want to be paid as such. I really can’t see a club even offering to match what we pay him. He came as a risk when we signed him and he still was injured over 50% of the time. Any club would be mad to go for him if you ask me. Needs a full season of staying fit I think... Like I said above - why sign and pay for Welbeck for when you can get the same from Daniel Sturridge who is free...

I would argue that while Welbeck has a bad injury record, when he is fit Welbeck still looks like the player he was - a solid PL quality player who can play across the front 3. On top of a woeful injury record, Sturridge looks to have totally lost the speed and quick feet that made him a good striker.
Sheffield United linked with Sturridge, don't know if it's ******** or not though (not that Welbeck would add too much to them, they already have honest strikers who don't score shedloads in abundance)
I am convinced that Chris Wilder is trying to play the premier league on hard mode by signing as many ******* **** players as possible. Burke, Rodwell, Ravel Morrison, McBurnie, Mousset are absolutely dreadful. Incredible manager, but every year he signs 4 or 5 utterly dreadful players - evidenced by the fact he tried to sign Jerome Sinclair.
Burke played well the other day in fairness, McBurnie and Mousset do a job, the other two I'm convinced Wilder took on as a personal challenge to see if his no-nonsense style could finally get the best out of them

Surely we have to try and renegotiate the deal he’s on? Can’t see him going for it - but if it’s 25k basic, 75k when you play...surely it’s worth just saying we won’t play you but we might if you just take 25k whatever? Surely he wants to play?! I suspect he’s been free to anyone who will pick up his wages. And it’s still not happened - indeed rumours are thin on the ground. A PL club might take him out of desperation but I really don’t see it. But if he stays, and renegotiated his deal to something reasonable and stays fit (!) then he’s plenty good enough to be a Championship striker - but that’s a lot of ‘ifs’.
I still think an EPL side will take him over the next few days. But if not, re-negotiate the deal with a higher base rate, no per game bonus - but, guaranteeing him a big bonus if we get promoted and a big slice of any transfer fee if he moves in the December window.
As I’ve said in another thread, I can’t see how his pay is based on actual appearances and not just being fit to play. He’s got a terrible injury record hence the deal, but if he accepted a deal which was based purely on setting foot on the pitch, rather than just being declared fit by the medical team, then him and his agent are complete idiots.
As above but forget a big slice of the transfer fee. Medium sized slice of cake, perhaps, as a sweetener.
But the point being that if it is literally a pay per play deal, then he’s left himself at the mercy of Watford to select him or lose £50k p/w, even if he is actually fit. Seems like a naive deal to agree to.

Contract has been terminated. Frankly, good riddance. I’d have loved a motivated Danny Welbeck at this level - but he’s clearly ignorant of the issues that have blighted his career. If he’d offered more, he’d be a massive miss. But he’s offered us exactly what we expected - injuries and glimpses of what might have been. But if he’s refused to play for a club that’s gave him another chance and believed in him after all his injuries, then see ya. We can’t get by with the strikers we have now. Gray, Deeney, Murray, Perica - not enough there.
