Where is there any evidence of a lack of hunger or bad attitude from him? He fell out with Mourinho over a lack of game time but he appeared to be desperate to play from his comments and the all or nothing episodes he was in.

There have been a few of the Spurs academy players on twitter praising him for how much he did for the young players at Spurs which for me is a much better indication as to the type of bloke he is rather than how well he gets on with a notoriously difficult mourinho.

All that said, he does look pretty out of shape so glad we’ve got him signed nice and early.

The recent photos suggest their is certainly no lack of hunger

Welcome aboard Danny. Hope you have found a club here with us who might actually win a trophy one day.

I mean, he's picked a club who haven't won one for a longer period than the club he left, so.....

As you say, he's good at everything but spectacular at nothing. It could be a lot worse. I would submit, however, that he's calm on the ball in traffic and can complete a pass. "Panic and lump it" defenders will get you killed in the Prem as the ball comes right back at you.

He publicly criticised Spurs' recruitment and said he can't wait for his career to be over. He doesn't seem to be in the right place mentally and he clearly isnt physically. I'd be delighted to be proved wrong. In his prime he was a good player. I just see so many red flags here unfortunately. If the club don't have reliable inside information that makes it clear he's ready to get in shape, work hard and have a positive impact on the dressing room regardless of whether he plays or not, then I'd say this signing is an accident waiting to happen. Really hope Danny can prove me wrong and as a Watford player I'll be giving him my full support unless he proves my concerns to be correct.

Honestly, when he was sitting in that chair, I saw no sign on a gut protruding either. So I think people are looking at his face and inferring things that likely aren't there. We'll soon know of course.

He clearly is overweight, and previously proven to have been overweight, everyone has different genes, you don’t have to have a visible gut to be overweight:

I liked the interview. We've clearly been on his radar for a while. He was watching us in the Championship as he thought if we came back up we could be an option for him.

It's a strange one. He's lost his way in the game. Didn't really set the world alight at Newcastle, couldn't get a sniff at Spurs. A typical Watford signing really. A player of past quality, but for whatever reason has fallen out of favour.

Before he signed, I wasn't sure about it, but after speaking to some Spurs supporting friends (sensible ones), they are sad to see him go, wanted to keep him, but are happy he's gone to a good club like Watford.

Those are good signs in my book. Maybe he's a little out of shape, but I'm sure if he's determined enough and has a will to succeed that won't be an issue. He'll get himself fit.

It's down to him. If he really wants to get playing again, and has the hunger to get his career going with something to prove, then we have probably made an excellent signing. If he's here to pick up a wage and just go through the motions, then he's not what we need at all. Time will tell how it will go, but he seems determined and grateful for the opportunity we've given him. I hope he repays the faith and we get ourselves a very good pro.

Just watched his interview on the club website. He's friends with a few of the players I guess that's how this materialised. He's clearly someone who needs to feel wanted, valued and appreciated. I think if we are to have any chance of seeing him perform well we would need to give him the support he clearly needs to turn his career round.

IF he can shed the weight, get back into shape and re-discover his form of a few years ago, he could be a very good signing. A big IF though, but for a free transfer I guess it's worth the gamble.

He's close friends with Capoue and has known Clevs, Gosling and Stack for over 10 years. Does Troy have any genuine friendships in the Watford squad? I thought he viewed himself as being above the other players.....

  21. Regardless of who is at fault, it’s incredible that Tottingham Hotspuds would allow the relationship to deteriorate so much that (at the time) England’s #1 left back ends up in a downward spiral and a season in the U23s. And worth jack **** to the club. Madness from all involved.

This morning the PL fixtures were released and yayyyy we were in them.

This afternoon we confirm the signing of a very experienced defender, who has played in a Champions League final and a World Cup semi.

The pessimists home in immediately on the tough run of fixtures in November, and our new signing’s faults.

The optimists among us prefer to look at the more winnable fixtures, and the potential upside to our new arrival.

We are back where we wanted to be, and busy boosting our squad.

At this stage nobody is right or wrong of course. Rose could be a flop. Fletcher probably will be. Man City will no doubt thrash us twice.

But as the sun shines on another glorious June day, there’s room for a little hope and optimism I feel.

  26. Love the burger, but imo they really should toast properly the inside face of the bun to stop them going so soggy. That's why they only get an 8.5 from me.

It depends - if they're crapper and/or fatter than him, then yes they will. However if they're in better shape and/or better than him then he'll sabotage any move.

The large majority of players who have come to us over the years seem to enjoy playing for Watford, in fact many come back for a second spell. Let’s hope Rose will quickly feel at home and that it brings out the best in him.

I am happier with this signing than the idea of getting Ashley Young back. I am sure if he keeps fit he will make a positive contribution. Within the context of our budget and aspirations, I think this is a good signing. He has talent and can take a penalty as well as mega Tottenham star Gareth Bale
