    No it doesn’t.

“Newcastle and Watford are among the Premier League teams interested in signing a full-back this month.”

Doesn’t state we are one of the six at all. States that us and Newcastle are interested in signing A full back. If it said THE full back, then your statement would be correct.

    You’re welcome.

I honestly don’t think he’s an upgrade on the Masina we’ve seen play over the last month or so.

We need genuine quality, to either improve the starting 11, or push those currently playing to higher levels.

Plus he's one of the least committed players in the league. We need fighters not shirkers.

Here's some news distancing us from Rose, but there is an interesting steer from Pearson in his comments when asked if Watford would do anymore business in this window.

"We may do. And that's all I can say. We may do, but we may not. It'll be dependent on whether we can significantly improve what we've got."

To me that says we do have target(s) lined up who are significant improvements on what we already have. It's a waiting game to see if we can actually bring them to the club or not, but I'd be quite optimistic as he is clearly aware what we're trying to do. This seems to be a little different from past managers/coaches, who didn't seem to have a clue as to what was going on with regards to player trading.

It appears Pearson knows whats going on, in reality he'd never heard of Pussetto or the two bit striker or belgian left back we're about to unveil.

Don’t want him. Super saiyan Masina is better.

    No thanks !

A loan deal or cheap fee maybe ..

Given his age and fact he’s no longer their first choice LB, we should not pay an exorbitant fee.

However, don’t let the question marks over his attitude be muddled with his commitment - he has always been committed on the pitch and is quite combative - he also is a far better attacking LB than we’ve had in decades I’d say.

Masina’s form has been great - but it’s not a time to rest on our laurels either. If the price was right, I don’t think we should be saying no to an England International who has been a regular at a World Cup and played in the Champions League Final in the past 18 months. He’s played over 150 times for a team that has consistently been in the Top 4 and has more than a handful of international caps.

We ask for the back line to be improved and given depth. This transfer does that. But the price has to be reasonable.
It’s a far better deal than the Ashley Young one that was touted a week ago!

  12. Spuds still holding out for silly money despite the fact he's in the last 6 months of his contract... how stupid can they get.

Left back is certainly a position where we are short, Janmaat and Kiko are decent options for right back and we also have Mariappa and Dawson that can cover the right hand side, however an injury to Massina and we have and ageing Holebas who has looked past it recently, I know Kiko can cover this position and was doing well before his injury but it isn't his natural position and I think he will do a good job on the right under Pearson.

Newcastle are strong frontrunners to get Rose according to SSN.

Genuinely hope we are back in for Rodriguez. But the reality I think is that we will be spending the next few days chasing Gibson and it will happen/fall through in the final hours.

And that will be our lot.

Yeah I think the key point is that we have plenty of cover for the right side of defence.

Yep. Femenia who was being pulled to pieces when on the right, Mariappa and Dawson. Plus Janmaat permanently broken. Plenty of cover, would be a waste of money to buy a good right back.

Is going to Southampton for guaranteed First XI football. We offer nothing that can be considered more attractive at this point.

Plus Rose is a LB and Walker-Peters is a RB?

Surely we’d play him over Mariappa at right back? That would leave Masina on left and Kiko to contest both spots.

  24. lutonh8a

Yes he was not brilliant on the right side of defence but it is his natural position and where he has spent all of career, before the start of this season I actually rated him admittedly he wasn't great up until Palace where he had Zaha in his pocket (playing on the right) and from there he has really improved and looked a different player. I don't put this down to changing from right to left but more to a change in manager, tactics and the whole team working as a unit as well as him finding his confidence. I believe Kiko will perform under Pearson whether he is playing on the right or the left.

In recent games using a combination of Marriappa and Dawson on the right side of defence we have been fairly solid. Recent results include:
    2-0 United
3-0 Villa (Okay Mapps got sent off )
    2-1 vs Wolves
    3-0 Bournemouth
Sheffiel United 1-1 ( Sheffield United only scored because of a stupid tackle for Hughes)

I'm glad we have not got him tbh.
Time will tell as we watch what happens at Newcastle but the money Spurs wanted and wages Rose wanted I think it's a good deal to miss out on.
Maybe we will go back in for him in a year if he sticks to his word and runs down his contract.

For all the praise Levy gets for being an excellent negotiator, I bet he’s furious at himself now for turning down £14m from us 6 months ago.
