Cucho has seemed to be a lot less repulsed by the idea of playing for us than the other South Americans we've had on the books in the past in fairness, and it's good to hear he's got 2 years on his deal. Go up, and I'm sure he'd be an option for us in the Prem, stay down, and he could fetch us a few bob
How are the two young lads that we sold getting on? Too lazy to google it! Wonder if the buyers got their monies worth?
Just going by whoscored.com (not the most reliable metric), Luis Suarez is Granada's 8th highest rated player, and has scored 5 league goals. Think he may be injured at the mo. Estupinan is Villarreal's 14th highest rated player (Capoue is already 4th), no goals or assists so far.
Ah but Barca wanted Esta, it was crazy we sold him for less than £20m. Best left back in La Liga .....we should have forced him to play against his will in the champ until someone coughed up his true value.
Agreed. Looks like a lot of us got this one wrong. Our left back position hasn't been an issue after all and just bcoz they are good in La Liga, doesn't mean they'll be any good in the Champo (Quina). That £20m has come in handy and can be seen in our pursuit of top young talent like Sanchez and Gosling
Cucho announced on Twitter this morning that he will be having surgery on a fifth metatarsal fracture. Anyone know how long the recovery for that is? Would he return to action by the start of next season?
Pretty sure that it's weeks rather than months, if I remember correctly from the Beckham World Cup metatarsal hysteria.
I found an academic article online claiming that while 6 weeks is the oft-quoted return time, the mean time for players to actually return to action is fourteen weeks. So his season is almost over, but he should be around for the start of pre-season if he is with us. https://online.boneandjoint.org.uk/doi/abs/10.1302/1358-992X.95BSUPP_1.BOA2012-214
Yeah, wasn't that the injury Rooney got towards the end of the season before the 2006 World Cup? Looked a zombie at that tournament
I think also Rooney at Euro 2004 and Beckham ahead of the 2002 World Cup, as @Steve Leo Beleck notes. A lot of hysteria around metatarsals in the U.K. in the 2000s as a result. It’s certainly not generally a potential career ender/disrupter in the way say an ACL is. But I’d imagine he’s unlikely to feature much again this season.
Not sure about that, it's not like it's an ACL, plus he's young so you'd guess he'd recover fairly well. Think it only helps us keep him in so far as it doesn't give him a chance to impress in the run-in
Depends on the cause (which if posted I didn't see). If the break was from being trod on, kicked, etc., then it won't worry anyone. If it's a stress/usage injury, those can be chronic and will scare people off.
Just checked Cucho's stats. In the 3 last seasons in La Liga, he's: Played 77 games Of which he's started 60 Scored 11 goals He's hardly set the world alight, has he?
Also got 7 assists during that time. And with the exception of this season at mid-table Getafe, he’s been playing for relegation candidates. The guy’s 21. Let’s look at the players 21 or younger who contributed to more than Cucho’s five league goals this season in La Liga. There are three. Alexander Isak - 14 G+A Joao Felix - 12G+A Vinicius Junior - 6G+A Equal with Cucho on 5G+A Ansu Fati Pedri Trincao Bryan Gil (who received his first senior Spanish call-up this morning) Last season, Cucho had 6 goal contributions (in 1500 mins), only Isak, Fati, Felix, Ferran Torres and Samuel Chukwueze with more. Yes, he isn’t banging in the goals, but there are few players in his age category who are banging in the goals. We would rightfully be very excited at the prospect of signing any of the other players on the list and should be excited at the prospect of Cucho too. I am confident he would be a star in the championship and a very useful squad option should we get promoted.
Yeah needs to play regularly in the Championship next season if we don’t go up. His underlying numbers are decent for his age, he’s just been playing in 2 teams in La Liga that don’t create anything. Getafe this season are ranked 19th for xG, Mallorca 17th and Huesca in his first season were 11th - in which he had a lot of chances, but couldn’t finish them. Weirdly I see him as a better option than Sema off the left
Yeah I was under the impression that Cucho was more of a left-sided forward, though Transfermarkt say he's been playing centre forward or right wing
Would like to hope we get to see him at Watford next season as a result of promotion. Granted he hasn't pulled up any trees but still going to be a better attacking option than Deeney, Gray, Perica and Success (I'm aware he plays wider than them usually).
I've seen him play a lot of times, and I believe he'd do well at Watford. He wont be prolific, but he would add something for sure. He's a combination between the technical ability of Pedro but the style of Gray. So basically a good version of Gray. We would still need to invest in this area. Success & Perica are not required. Even though I'm a big fan of Deeney, he would have to take a backseat role in the Premier League. Gray maybe retain as backup to Cucho. There would certainly be a position for at least one more high profile striker, who could actually take some of the numerous chances we make.
I think he'll be suited to the general style of play that we'll need in the Premier League. He's strong, doesn't go down easily, works really hard for the team. Question is whether or not he'll produce enough in terms of assists/goals. I've already decided that he'll be one of those players that arrives and it just clicks but that might be the after effects of last night's celebratory drinks...
Can’t copy and paste the heat maps and a photo is too large apparently. Here’s the website. https://www.sofascore.com/player/cucho-hernandez/887055 You can scroll down, change the seasons, and you will see what I was talking about in the thread, “Squad for next season.”
He's currently out injured with a fractured metatarsal and won't be able to resume training for about 2 months. This is already his second metatarsal fracture in 3 seasons. He was also out injured for 6 months 2 seasons ago.
That injury was about 6 weeks ago, so would be fit for pre season. I am not sure I would be relying on Cucho for the goals to keep us up, but he looks like a player that could be good enough to play in the PL.
