If I had played, I'd have bagged the Deeney chance. I have a lot of time for the guy but his goals from open-play ratio is severely lacking these days. The smile when he missed was infuriating as there was nothing funny about it.
Once again we approach the 2nd half of the season plagued by injuries, needless suspensions and fitness issues. The bigger issue here is the stupidity of our players, making rash and unnecessary challenges, while the squad as a whole seem to have the fitness of a Sunday league pub team. Something needs to be done about this urgently. No point going into our problems up front, it's clear to all now (finally!) that we need to sign a striker in January, or conjure Okaka back from the dead, even as a walking-dead like zombie, he'd be more effective than Gray and Deeney. Seems to be two or three types of fans emerging, which is quite interesting to watch. Boring4ever is quite the troll, impressive. I think it could be Clive?
Copy of transcript from a WhatsApp group I'm on that consists mainly of Spurs fans Spurs fan 1: 21.53 It's all gone terribly wrong for Watford Spurs fan 2: 21.54 The wheels have come off, they're going down Me: 22.03 9th in the Prem in only our 5th season in the Prem. Or 11th ever season in the top flight in 136 years. Yes mate, it's all gone terribly wrong LOL (crying with laughter smilies) My point I suppose is more to do with perspective. Right now I think we could all do with a dose of that.
No good, still ****ed off Like I said in an early post we only seem to be able to play for 20mins at a time before we start falling apart. I was still feeling confident of a top 10 finish up until yesterday , now it seems just like the last two seasons. Seems like our battle at the moment is with Leicester , Everton (who are both on the up) and Burnley (who are doing well, but are also bound to hit a loosing streak at some point). We only need 6 more wins to be safe , which we will do - but I really thought we had a chance of 7th. We have same great players , but seem plagued by injury and stupid sending offs, hand on heart I don’t think either Deeney or Gray are **** , but do think they are currently doing a good impression of a striker that couldn’t hit a barn door from 5 feet. Let’s face it we have only done as well as have because everybody else apart from the strikers seems to be able to score. When we play well we are superb, nice touches , good possession even the defence isn’t as bad as everybody makes out, but then we seem to forget this and just hoof it up pitch in the hope Deeney will bring it down. I’m sure the reason we were better at the start of the season is we were not doing this. What we need is for Silva to invest in a megaphone so he can keep telling the team what to do when they forget: “Holebas you are supposed to kick the ball not the players you ****” “Deeney run you ****” “Cleverley - what the **** are you doing” “Gray the goal is that way”
I hate the January window as its generally overpriced average players that you can get but I'm increasingly of the feeling that the club need to have an extraordinary transfer window and get players in and fast. We need big investment in the defence and also another striker. And some actual training based around 'how to defend' and 'not get sent-off' would be nice too. The likes of Pereyra and Carrillo need to start showing their obvious talent rather than cruising through games in second gear and getting away with it. The only was this team improves at the minute is with pressure from the rest of the squad outside of the starting XI. Too many players are certain of their place in the team and that allows performances to drop off - exactly the same as under QSF and Walter. We need a squad of 25 players who are all pushing hard for a place in the team.
Yes, two headers down to Deeney 1-1 (Deeney 89, Deeney o.g. 90) Edit: Should have scrolled down before posting
May I add a fourth category CB? The vomiting ,with a Palace supporting partner, who apologies for the unjust victory kind?
Of course it is. If you fall off a 100 floor building you are OK on the way down for 99 floors - it is the end that counts
A team consisting of players that can't / won't play against Huddersfield on Saturday is better than anything we can put out.
I’m not sure fitness is an issue? We’ve looked supremely fit in some games, West Ham springs to mind, the stats generally show we run more than most teams. I think at the moment it’s effort and application, the fitness is there if they can be bothered to use it.
Regarding the Pessimist / Optimist debate earlier. Being pessimistic and expecting Palace to screw us over somehow has allowed me to come back to forums today, the day after a defeat, usually it takes me 2-3 days.
Really looking forward to the games over the Christmas period now. What with the injuries, suspensions, lack of strikers who can score goals, idiotic and kamikaze defending and the inevitable return of Capoue.
Now I've seen the match highlights, and I do not see what all the fuss was about with Van Aarnholt. Never a red card. It's was late and probably deliberate, but not enough in it for a red. It was a one footed tackle and a yellow all day long. No complaints over Cleverley. Both were yellow cards so he had to go off.
Interesting. Accusations cast at me as a troll, when most of your free time since August 2007 has evidently been spent on here & who knows what other forums you belong to? Please explain? Happy 10 year anniversary here by the way.
Thank you . I knew you would be the one to reply. The stadium food is as tasty as our form right now and about as easy to digest.
Trolls are more likely to be small post count members, recently registered or someone with obsessive thoughts regarding other member's forum use behaviour. Especially those who analyse post counts, registered dates and seemingly live vicariously through what they believe those posters do in their spare time.
Did we lose last night because our forwards can't score, our defence can't defend, or our discipline in keeping eleven on the pitch is shocking? Was it a combination of all three? January will be an interesting transfer window. Clearly those behind the scenes will be aware of what we need, but as has been pointed out - value for money in January is hard to come by. And no matter who we bring in - they pretty soon seem to adapt to the Watford trend of getting injured, and not just for a game or two. Last season out of the new players we added, Pereyra, Zarate, Janmaat, Success, Kaboul, Okaka and Djedje (plus any others I've forgotten) missed either all or huge chunks of playing time; this season we've seen Chalobah, Hughes, and now Kiko pick up injuries plus of course the same suspects from last seasons list proving just as fragile again. We also seem to have a knack of finding players who instead of getting injured, just get suspended instead. Zeegelaar hasn't wasted any time making himself unavailable, and I'm fairly certain last night was Tom's first career red (which would suggest good discipline, but I can't help seeing it from the point of view that despite all the years at other clubs avoiding a sending off, it's taken less than a season here to wipe out that record). Not only must we get it right in the transfer market, we've also got to get it right in the treatment room and address the discipline problem - otherwise it won't matter who we bring in as they'll be looking on from the stands after a few games. I believe our strongest team can beat most - possibly all - sides from 7th down, and give the top teams a proper game. But the huge numbers of talent missing on far too regularly an occasion means that nights like yesterday and at Everton will start to become the norm.
Remarkable! You seem to know a lot about this subject. I now too am seriously considering staying 10 years, building up a 10,20,30K + post count, with the ultimate aim of being like your good self, Moog & Cassetti's beard. Something to aim for at least. Also, could you teach me how to do those GIF pictures please. That is a prerequisite skill when you are fortunate enough to get to your stage.
I'm rather afraid I don't know what the Britvic club is? Mr IBB is sulking because I unjustly barked at him for being sympathetic towards our loss. Poor chap can't do right for doing wrong. I hate football.
Britvic 55 was a popular drink, back in the old days .......... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britvic
