To be fair Ali Sowe doesn't look that bad, he is a big lad and is fairly quick, he actually attacks the ball in the opposition's box as well which is better than our current forwards at least, I would actually like to see us take a punt on him.

He's only really scored goals in the Albanian and Bulgarian leagues! Aside from that, e.g. in Italy, his record is atrocious.

Don't know or even care what a Director of Football does but good to see we're following the trend from the playing side of just bringing in Udinese cast offs.

Was quite up for the other Italian bloke that sounded a bit nuts, had an interesting playing career and was a self proclaimed Communist but nope, just some grey suit from Udinese.

    This is an encouraging statement

Cristiano Giaretta: "Watford is now a Premier League club for a number of reasons, we cannot stay in the Championship for long."

As said every single club relegated from the prem. They were all too good for the champ.

I think he was talking about the financial commitment at the club.....why we are Premier League. We are not really Premier League in any other aspect, IMO.

In his interview he stated (translated version, so just go with it).

    What market do you see?
“A slow market, almost blocked. There is a lot of chatter. But we are moving in the direction of what we expected: we have to wait for someone to move to trigger the mechanism that is clogged today. Patience is needed ”.

Interesting that he said we have to wait for someone to move. I’m guessing he’s talking about Doucoure.

    http://sportwitness.co.uk/something...lks-watfords-transfer-plans-deulofeus-future/

"Our goal is to go back to the Premier League. As far as the team is concerned, I must say that we immediately had an important core in our squad, among young and experienced players,”

“We will work with a group of important young players. It will be a good mix and I think it’s the key to winning the Championship.”

“There will be some important transfers, some players are of a different level in the Championship: it is clear that after the relegation, something will have to change,”

There are several rumours around the boy (Deulofeu). We are evaluating: he is ready to make a difference; his one-on-one would have given an immense contribution,”

“There are important clubs on him, including in Italy, Spain and England. Napoli can also be included among those interested.”

“Deulofeu is among those players mentioned for an outright sale. He remains an important player,”

“There is a range of top-level players who are less affected by the coronavirus pandemic, I believe Deulofeu
is part of this range and his evaluation was and remains high. Strong players remain strong, lower level players may be affected more.”

This is me talking now.......from the quotes above I conclude we'd like to retain all our top players, but of course some would like to move on. Deulofeu, by the looks of it, would be retained if they could keep him. It doesn't appear to be the case of us having to sell him, but he'll go if the player finds move that suits himself.

It's good to get a handle on what the club are doing. I think most that go would be down to the players wanting out, rather than Watford pushing them out. That's my reading on it anyway.

See, I read that the other way. I see that as them saying Deulofeu is a player they don’t have to sell cheaper than his value due to Covid, whereas some players they do. They see that he is still a big player in football so there’s undoubted interest. Seems to me that we want to keep him, possibly can even afford to keep him...but accept he will go.

As with many cases we see it differently. If they needed to sell and wanted to push players out they wouldn't come out and say so would they? However from what is written above he is clearly looking for GD to move on but trying to protect the price we get by mentioning the teams he does and that his price shouldn't be affected by the quiet market, and mentioning that "his one-on-one would have given an immense contribution" . There are clearly expecting a number of other exits of the prem standard players "There will be some important transfers, some players are of a different level in the Championship: it is clear that after the relegation, something will have to change".

Yeah I definitely view it as GD is one of those who we have earmarked for sale. Giaretta, however, is highlighting that while lots of players across Europe will be sold at bargain prices due to the pandemic etc, players at the top of the market retain their value to a greater degree due to their quality and so we’re not going to sell GD on the cheap. We’re clearly looking for £20-25m or so.

I think with GD (and also Pereyra) we’re doing what the Pozzos/Udinese are doing with De Paul too. Actively touting him around to clubs for a very clear price. Clearly with GD, despite his injury, there are several interested parties, I’d imagine things will move quite quickly as soon as one hits the asking price.
