Unusual injury time for Jofra Archer. Cut his finger cleaning out his fish tank and it has got affected. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...ra-archer-ipl-finger-injury-fish-tank-cricket
New season same old cr@p Middlesex. Fair play to Somerset for chasing that down, but Middlesex really imploded on days 3 & 4. @Keighley .....
Quite a turnaround that. Tbh, I had totally given up on the game before start of play on Saturday morning... Somerset’s top order is very brittle though. Promising, but young (except for Hildreth).
I'm still struggling to come to terms with 'batters'. Who are the (no doubt well intentioned) idiots who come up with this cr ap?
I believe "runs" can easily be confused with diarrhea and so they are going to refer to "goals" "Caught" can orally be confused with "court" and so they will introduce the term "catched".
Few people in this country know much about baseball because it hasn’t had TV coverage here, but the truth is it is way more steeped in tradition than any of our forms of one-day cricket are. I agree with all the comments being made about “the Hundred”, which is sounding more and more horrendous, but it really shouldn’t be likened to baseball.
Batters will be used because there will be women's games alongside the men's, so the dame tetm van be used for both. A gender-neutral term would be preferable to batswomen or batsladies.
Gender neutral! Pah! I'm sure there's a master plan to make football gender neutral - i.e. in 10 years or so teams will comprise men and women. That's why they're doing everything they can to make it a non-contact sport - so physical strength is less of an advantage. You mark my words its definitely coming. Sorry to introduce football to a cricket thread
This is true but I think the term originates with the Aussies and is just 'slang' rather than having any gender-neutral connotation.
I think it's both. Commentators often use 'batters', but with The Hundred there's a reason to make it an official term. There's no good reason for 'outs' though, and I expect to ignore this competition's existence.
Several overseas players exiting the IPL given the crisis in India concerning coronavirus. Others are expected to follow before more travel bans are imposed.
I'm surprised they didn't just keep it in Dubai like last year. Seemed to work well... They seem to be using the 'it provides 2-3 hours relief for many' excuse to keep it going so far.
Top effort today from Pat Cummins. I heard him interviewed on 5Live just before the IPL started and thought then what a very decent human being he seemed.
Can someone please explain how Middlesex have gone from being champions three seasons ago (?) to the shambles they are today?
https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/...to-14-teams-t20-world-cup-to-20-teams-1264847 The right thing to do. Nations do not get better playing themselves but against a higher level of competition and seeing where they need to get to. A closed shop is never a good idea to grow a sport. Football and rugby have the right idea. Cricket for so many years under the leadership of the MCC and now the BCCI have not.
