Imagine he’d stay to provide cover for both defence and midfield and will try to break into the first team at centre back at some point- depends what Javi thinks of him in preseason
Shocking egg on face report from WO. Even now they're saying it's still a little way to go before everything is concluded. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...n-signing-west-bromwich-albions-craig-dawson/ Gutted this paper is now so s*** when reporting on Watford FC.
Solid reliable defender when he signs for us and the price in this mad inflated transfer market is very reasonable. Now if we can also get Vavro then the defensive side of things looks much healthier. We most definitely need a ball playing defender. I would hope that Wilmot could be that but Vavro is pretty decent. The centre of the press is moving up the pitch and to be able to play through it and not lose the ball to create transitions or able to play long and accurately is essential.
He's still young. I would like to see him given a chance to impress in pre season, if only to see how much he's grown over the past 3 years.
Personally I think Wilmot has looked good, but he lacks experience and it is a big risk to thrust him against some of the best forwards in the world, when we get a few injuries. I’d like to see him loaned out to a championship team that is going to play him regularly, and assuming he proves himself he could be a starter after that.
decent signing, solid with experience. Better than Mapps, better than Prodl. With Wilmott, Mapps, Kabesele, plus 1 more, as back up we have enough for mid table
Silly money for a squad player, albeit with decent potential. We can't match that sort of spend. Tierny at Celtic could go to Arse for 20 - 25 million (crazy). We are going to see some ridiculous fees this window.
Doesn’t matter if we can’t match it. We can’t match most teams in this league. Even the mid table ones. As I’ve said no one wants to go to Villa. They are struggling to recruit, it’s an open secret. They will be a favourite to go down. They have struggled with a number of targets which is why they are paying over the odds for people who won’t be their first choice and probably aren’t good enough.
That is the price of British players with any sort of track record. The prices are only heading in one direction. We have to somehow balance our squad UK vs Overseas whilst paying a fraction of what our peers are paying.
I don’t see why Villa should struggle to recruit. Great stadium, history, billionaire owners, high wages and Birmingham is nice. What is not to like? Most of our players would see it as a step up. They’ve already signed 4 including a 22m forward and will look to add Webster this week. When you say it is an “open secret” they are struggling to recruit I would say that looks like something made up in the face of the evidence.
I like Wilmot. I wish he had not been shipped out last January. I think he will make a great ball playing CB but Gracia doesn't yet see him there. If he doesn't get a sniff this year he will leave I think, I think he could be a future England CB, he has looked that good so far.
I think he may be number 3 this season but perfectly good enough for this plus he seems excellent at bonding the squad and helping new players settle in. Would not cost that much either.
Very concerned about misunderstandings between Craig & Craig this year, I can see a few 'leave' balls happening!
One of them will be nicknamed ****face, so no confusion provided the other players remember who has that nickname. Worked OK when we had Gibbsy and Cally partnering down the right
If he’s number 3 it’s fine I suppose. As long as: A) it doesn’t mean we struggle with overseas slots B) he doesn’t play against Forest Green in the Carabao and then the club feel this means he must play in the final against Liverpool on the grounds he’s a good bloke.
The clubs official Twitter have started retweeting fans who have been telling them to sign a CB which means Dawson is imminent.
