Supposedly Villa have been trying, but Bournemouth have been delaying any deal from being made for at least a few weeks. A reason hasn't been given, but I suspect it would be due to a combination of Muff holding out to know if anything might happen with Ake, and also the possibility of other clubs being interested. Supposedly Muff agreed to keep Villa informed of the size of any other bids made for Mings so they could try and match them. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/06/...-may-have-to-wait-weeks-to-sign-tyrone-mings/ https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/06/...ive-aston-villa-chance-to-match-tyrone-mings/ Villa fans are most desperate to sign him out of any of the players they had on loan, he made the key difference to them getting promoted. They'll really struggle next season if someone else nicked him ahead of them.
I agree that he’s a player that would fit into our team - being a left-footed CB is something we don’t have now Britos and Hoban are gone. But his injuries would be a concern.
Did we offer £10m? I thought we offered some awful loan deal that was never ever going to be accepted? As much as I think Cahill (on a sensible wage) for 2 years, would be a good signing - I’d be very surprised if the club were looking at him at all. It’s just not the type of signing we make. Personally think he would have gone to Fulham - and likely now Villa. I also suspect (hope not) that Dawson will go to Burnley unless we outbid them. They supposedly want Rodriguez back as well and a double-deal will probably be preferred by WBA and the players themselves. Think we need to move quick if we want him.
Fenerbache are supposedly interested in signing Kabasele. If this report is true and we do decide to cash in, then we would need a replacement for him also. The way this is going we could end up with having to sign 3 CB’s. Would be great to bring in Dawson, Todibo (unlikely) and Webster/Clarke/Cooper (someone of that ilk, a young, talented, great potential, English defender). We have Wilmer coming back as well, although Javi seems to see him more of a CDM than a CB. Hopefully we sign one of two of these players soon so we can move on to other targets.
It doesn’t guarantee it but it wouldn’t be surprising if Everton & Spam ease ahead of us next season. Eventually, money talks. I suspect we’ll be in a 11-15th place group.
I’d like Dawson, but £10m for a 29:year old seems high. Are we not better off spending £20m on a younger defender with a resale value.
No. Because if we get 2/3 seasons out of Dawson (minimum) then he’s justified the fee. And we know what we are getting. £20m on a youngster is a gamble for a club that can’t take gambles of that magnitude.
Always liked him. Good solid CB. Don't know why it's not worked at Burnley for him. As people are saying we could possibly need three or four defenders. Gibson and Mings are well within our price range.
That's exactly why I think a young CB like Webster or Todibo who can play out from the back is a better option for us. Dawson is a good player and the Foster connection might help, but he is not a cheap option especially salary wise and Burnley could be his preferred location.
We were in the same mini group. Last month shuffling decided the final places. We will be doing well not to be clearly behind them next time, imho.
If the tv money keeps expanding, top half will be as remote as Champions’ League. If the tv money stops, Pozzo’s dust. End of good news bulletin.
It's funny how a year ago we were all desperate for him to join us on deadline day, now we seem a lot more divided. He won't take us to the 'next level' that we flirted with this (last?) season but he's a definite upgrade on Mapps, and arguably on Cathcart too. Would like to sign him, and would hope he'd choose us over Burnley, especially as we have a better chance of being higher in the league next season yet it would probably actually be easier for him to get in the team
We will never get to "the next level" and certainly won't be buying players to get us to that level. Good solid defender to help keep us in the prem though i expect he will go to Burnley if they are genuinely chasing him. Good northern defensive unit more similar to what he's been used to at WBA.
A few years ago, yes. Now a £10m outlay is squad player money for a mid table team. The filth are about to sell a young full back to Leicester for £15m or so. The numbers involved now have gone to another level. It wouldn't surprise me to see us spend anywhere between £15m & £20m on Dawson. It might seem high, but that is the market.
