Glastonbury sadly had no choice but to pull the plug, it’s the biggest greenfield festival in the world and takes significantly more, and significantly longer to put everything in place compared to any other festival. They couldn’t risk spending loads of money like they did last year, planning and getting everything in place, without cast iron certainties that it could definitely go ahead. Even now with the roadmap there are no guarantees, it would’ve started on 26th June and the provisional date for festivals is 21st June, far too tight to gamble millions on.

Every other festival by comparison can be slung together in a fraction of the time.

New cases are still coming down but not as fast now, whereas deaths are dropping like a stone. That's the future.

In other news, I read today that not a single case of flu has been recorded this year. That can't be right can it?

Epidemiologically, no. Flu is no doubt still circulating in the community but lockdown measures, masks etc will have suppressed it big time. But it's not being detected because it's not popping up in the usual places where they test - ICUs, care homes etc - and I also read Public Health England have naturally had to redirect some testing and surveillance capacity for Covid.

First one done as well. If what I witnessed in the waiting room is representative of my age/health group then I seriously despair .

Going to be interesting to see whether mask wearing during peak seasons for illnesses with significant community spread becomes a thing in the future.

Deaths are at 300 a day after 2 months of a hard lockdown - they are way higher than I would have predicted at this point a month or two ago.

I will be for certain. I am wondering when I can get into concert halls, galleries, museums in the near future without undue worry. It has been a rather terrible eleven months not being able to travel as well.

People will need to modify their behaviour for quite a while still rather than thinking it will all be hunky dory when everyone is accinated. The vaccines can themselves become a selection pressure for strains if not minimized in the general population. We are stuck with this now with regular vaccinations for the vulnerable as mutations as with the one in California appear.

No surprise the concerning mutations arose in countries where the approach to the virus was lax ensuring a large viral load in the population and the ability for it to mutate into a more infective strain(s).

Not arguing about what vaccine they want surely ? Moderna is already developing as is Pfizer new vaccines to target the SA strain. Moderna already near phase one of a trial with the modified vaccine, a mix of modified and current vaccine and the one in use now.

Imagine a waiting room full of the walking dead, then the jab by a lovely nurse, then another waiting room, (as you have to wait 15 minutes afterwards), full of the same people. I expected a bit of a jovial upbeat atmosphere but **** me was I wrong. It was oppressive.

Did they not want to wait or making a fuss about the vaccine?

There was a covid programme on earlier, I don’t know if anyone saw it but it gave an interesting example for how new variants emerge. They gave an example of someone in hospital with Covid who’d also been receiving chemo. They were in hospital for three months battling Covid (they eventually died) as they had a very weak immune system. In an effort to save them, they injected them with the antibody plasma stuff, because they had such a weak immune system instead the virus just kept replicating and learned to work round the antibodies and mutated significantly within this one individual.

That’s probably quite an obvious thing regarding how viruses work, it was just interesting how by trying to save this person it actually just helped the virus adapt.

I don't know why I clicked on that link, I knew it would anger me, but I did.

Laurence Fox is a 24 carat c**t so his followers were always going to be f***ing idiots, but it's amazing just what a bunch of self-important, attention-seeking, desperate to be different bunch the anti vaccine brigade are. Full of smugness that they are in on something that most people aren't, despite it being based on total sh*t.

Would you include front care workers who refuse to take the vaccination because they don't trust the government in that category?

    Yes, it's interchangeable.

I bet they'd be screaming for a vaccine if it was announced that there was one, but only a select few could have it.

While I had no hesitation in getting pricked (oh, matron) this week, I don't see why anyone should be forced to undergo a medical procedure that they're not comfortable with - no matter how misguided their reasons might appear to be. If people don't want to be vaccinated that's their free choice.

  33. Diamond

That's a fine view if it had absolutely no bearing on the rest of us. However...

  34. Lloyd

    Lloyd Squad Player

I think attempting to force those who choose not to be vaccinated to undergo the process against their will would have a far more damaging 'bearing on the rest of us'.

We have 'forced' people to stay at home against their will during lockdown...
