Especially if the rumours you have to climb the 107 steps up to the royal box to get your jab are true.

A blue vaccine passport would be like catnip to the boomers.

So you think older people would vote Tory if they get “let out” first but not if everyone is at the same time?

I take the incentivisation point, but why not do that now? Apart from anything else it will be an administrative faff to retrospectively issue the passport to the 4 million plus who have already been vaccinated.

The issue is that there's no guarantee at the moment that the vaccination prevents transmission, just symptoms. As such dropping restrictions for those vaccinated is unlikely until this is confirmed.

I don't agree, actually. I think restrictions will start to be lifted, although not completely, once the over 50s have been done. For economic reasons, primarily.

Surely once all the old codgers and those with other health issues have been jabbed life will return to normal. There is no reason at all to keep any restrictions in place in an attempt to stop the virus being passed to the young and healthy given the tiny number of young fit people seriously impacted by Covid

True - probably after the top 4 tiers have had the 2nd jab and the virus isn’t causing mass deaths or hospital admissions.

So finally Covid visits the Diamond household. Mrs Diamond had a test Sunday and it returned a positive result. Our daughter at Uni only left Friday, had a test today which was negative.
I've just been to the local walk through centre for a test. The experience was very professional but doing the test itself was not particularly pleasant.

    We all feel quite normal.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully she remains asymptomatic.

Did you get the horrible brain-tickler test?

I think the restrictions will begin to be lifted well before the over 50s are vaccinated. Don't forget all the vaccinated people have to get their second dose. Unless/until they have the vaccines (and infrastructure) in hand to vaccinate over 4 million a week, the 50-69 year olds will have to wait until the 70+ get their second dose. The govt will not keep us in lockdown til July or later.

Yes, it was self administered with someone standing over me giving instructions. I gagged and my eyes watered. I felt like a complete "melt".

I gagged horribly at mine as well (the GF remarked i'd be **** at giving blowies) and sneezed loads on the nose one. Horrible. Hope I (and you!) don't need to do them again. Hope the Mrs recovers well!

Hopefully they make the vacine available 24 hours, plenty of more able people would happily get their jabs at 3 am.

That's not my understanding of how it will work. The vaccine plan talks about vaccinating the largest number of at-risk people in the shortest possible time. That seems to mean they willl move onto the 50-69s before they have administered all of the second doses to the first batch.

It seems to be planned that at least one dose will be given to all in the 9 priority groups by mid-April. That was the date I had in mind for substantial easing of restrictions.

Don't feel bad about it - that one is awful. I got one back in April or so, and performed by a medical professional at that. My body seized up for about a second and my vision went white. It's very unpleasant!

I just had one of the newer tests this weekend and they're far preferable. Self administered, basically goes to the bridge of the nose only, turn it around a couple of times, do other nostril (same swab), done. My eyes watered a bit but otherwise very easy, and orders of magnitude more pleasant than the brain tickle.

I think they HAVE to give the second dose by the twelfth week which will interfere with giving the first dose to the over 50s unless they can double the vaccination rate. Plus there are now calls for teachers and the police to be vaccinated as well. Note the Govt won't give details of when the vaccines will be delivered from the manufacturers! Don't believe the bullsh*t about not wanting to tell other countries.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Mrs Diamond.
I bought myself a test when a child at Tiny Toes tested positive. Very unpleasant experience but that's enough about the £119 fee,the swab was horrid too.

There will be a lag from vaccination to a certain level of immunity, and during that time someone could catch it.

Anyway the research hasn't been peer reviewed as it says in the report. However if it does turn out to be the case then I expect that the government will simply adjust the schedule, ie when the current target group is near completion then roll out the second jabs for them.

Well, I’m just taking this from the government’s own plan. Of course, they may not meet their targets. But there has been also been some (IMO ridiculously optimistic) talk about giving everyone a first dose by June.

There will still be considerable pressure to start easing restrictions around April, whatever happens. There are already murmurs from backbenchers about Johnson’s leadership in this regard.

One of the most bizarre things about this pandemic has been the see-sawing nature of off the record briefings to journalists. One minute there's someone out there briefing we could have the whole adult population vaccinated by the end of June. But by this morning we're warned vaccination rates aren't keeping up and Boris isn't planning to relax lockdown at all until the Easter weekend. Both are probably exaggerations.

We are still being ‘nudged’ rather than informed. That we have the current highest death rate in the World suggests it doesn’t work.

The vaccine is salvation. Thank god the roll out is progressing well, because we don’t have much of anything else to restrain the disease.

    Basically they don't really know.

Seems that some areas are well on the way to getting the first group or 2 done but others like around my area only just started last week.

Boris has given a lot of hope and potential dates but had to change them a few times.

Trying to be even-handed about this - I can understand the need for target dates not only to keep the vaccination schedule going but also to give people some optimism that the end is in sight and thus to observe lockdown rules for the time being. But, as UEA says, it doesn't help when you hear different things on different days.

Not necessarily. My sister in law and niece both tested positive but my brother in law and nephew were negative.
