Many thanks to Otter for running the last game. Short but enjoyable.

This is the signup thread for Coronavirus Werewolf 2 - April Fool - beginning Wednesday April 1st, (on Friday evenings the village has a break until Monday mornings).

I intend to run it the same as the very first ever Werewolf game on this site with Wolves, a Traitor, a Seer and a bunch of villagers trying to stay alive. I will be researching other online werewolf games to see if there's a new role worth pursuing and will gladly take ideas from the current villagers, (ie you).

Signup numbers will dictate number of roles. I think 20 players is the maximum we can cope with due to poll restrictions.

    In. Many thanks.

Though if "the village has a break until Monday mornings", then how came you've said the game won't start until Wednesday?

@Diamond there were a few previous regulars who missed out like Dom, Harrowhornet and Norwayhornet, maybe give them a nudge.

What happened to Meh! and PhilippineOrn, they've disappeared?

Sorry for kicking you but I think a lot of people were in a state of flux at the beginning of the week and had no idea what their availability would be.

I felt that another game starting so quickly wouldn't have the same impact as waiting a little bit longer, lets the tension build a bit as well, plus may get a few more players.
Bonus is we get to start on April Fools day, which will be good if I can think of something clever enough.

I'd be a bit wary of calling out too many "not so" regulars now. Withdrawals hurt the last game for Otter.

Fair point, would be good to have a little bit of variety from the last game though and replace the few players in the last game who didn't contribute and aren't interested this time

A bit of online searching brings up some new roles, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Super Wolf: A super wolf has all the powers of a regular Alpha wolf but is shown to be good when viewed by the Seer.
The Witch: The Witch has 2 potions, either of which can be used at any time. One kills a player of their choosing, the other brings another back from the dead. So you could die on night 1 and be revived midday on day 7 for example.
Devil: A Seer for team evil. Would post instead of the Alpha but with real knowledge.
Mayor: Their vote counts as 2.
Old Man: The old man dies on day number x, (x = the amount of wolves in the game at the start). They would know this is coming.
Hardman: Needs two visits from wolves to be killed. This would be communicated after 1 visit.
Paranoid Seer: Every view shows as evil.

The witch isn't a million miles from the potioneer I did a couple of years ago. The only difference was a potioneer could protect someone from a wolf attack for one night.

The devil was the thing I was thinking of adding in my next game.

Yeah I like the look of that role, (Devil).
As it's April 1st when we start I was so tempted to make a paranoid seer, would have been perfect for me to watch but just utter chaos for the game.

In please - & thanks for running.
The idea of a paranoid seer made me laugh out loud.
  23. Appreciating that GOOD walked it last time, but a lot of those roles must make it pretty impossible for Team GOOD. I haven't a clue what's going on just watching and the thought of a super wolf, a devil and/or a paranoid seer must make it almost impossible to work out what's going on and form any sort of theory/strategy at all. Most of the past games have been really close haven't they without too much addl help for team EVIL ? Anyway just the thoughts of an interested spectator....

Wouldn't be a fan of the Super Wolf, would make it pretty impossible for team good.

Here is one I liked the look of when researching roles the other day:

Seer (Quasi) - Team Good. The quasi seer views two target players each night and will be told if the two targets have the same alignment or not. The Quasi Seer cannot view himself. Also referred to as the Mentalist.

So for example, they could have asked to view grrwood and squibba in the last game and be told they have different alignments (but not told which is evil).

    Would you like to participate?
  26. Thanks for the offer but I wouldn't have a clue what to do or think if I was in the game so think I'd end up screwing it up !
I'm also sleeping a lot of the time due to this virus so this role would have been perfect.....

I wouldn't let this put you off in future games (once you're fully recovered).

The best way to learn it is just by playing it. You'll already be at an advantage having watched a few games.

And in terms of screwing up, even the most experienced players are still guilty of that on a regular basis (myself very much included)!

Adding the quasi seer would surely also sway the odds a bit more in team good's favour?

In general I'd want the number of special roles to be kept fairly low, and for the game to be as balanced between the two sides as possible. The last game just ended up too easy for team good.

Ideally I also don't think new roles should be added during the game without prior notification that they will be within the game at the some point, as it leads to a lot of superfluous wild speculation which doesn't really benefit anyone.

Agree, special roles will be minimal and fully communicated before the game, (I'm not saying they're a bad thing, just nice to have a basics game again). It needs to add to the game without overpowering one side.
  30. I'm in.

How about masons? Not seen those for a while. Maybe numbers need to be bigger.
  31. I agree. As otter said, we probably found it easier due to the lack of a traitor.

Just add that back in and would even up the chances again.

I like the idea of switching between more complicated games and simpler, stripped back games. Perhaps a relatively simple game with 2/3 wolves (with a Full Moon if a wolf dies before day 3), Seer, Guardian, Tinker, Traitor and either Masons or one other vaguely useful good character.

It's worth saying that the biggest factor in this game ending so quickly was luck. If Diamond didn't pick the virus carrier on night 1, then on day/night 2 Evil could have potentially lynched a villager, had three kills and taken out the seer. The entire game turned on that one pick.

Some made up vaguely useful roles:

The Russian voter: Give a good villager the ability to make two votes on one day, no questions asked.
The Whisperer: Let a good villager send one single word message to the seer.
The Tie-breaker: Let a good villager decide who wins when there is a tie in voting.
The Giraldi: When this character declares "I Am Giraldi" the moderator gives a speech to the village explaining how important the Giraldi is. Nothing happens.

What's the deal with non-voters? I was a bit miffed I was out after someone hadn't posted or voted at all. I know these are difficult times but maybe a non-poster supercedes a lynching and the voted person stays until the next day when they can be voted on again etc
