Don’t smile like a gurning simpleton and a£se lick their performance and their players. Don’t they get enough of that?

    Say something like :

“we’re all hurting in there (changing room), quite honestly we’re shell shocked by the result and bitterly disappointed by our performance.
We’re angry as we’re sure our fans also are and we want to apologise to our fans for putting them through that.

But, let us assure all our fans, our anger will be turned into a positive. It’s one game and there’s a long way to go.

And we WILL make this unacceptable performance up to the fans with the way we are all determined to get back to fighting on the pitch in the next games for our pride and results for our club”

    Not too difficult ..

This would be fine. However, if he added a clown suit to the routine, he'd have us all backing him!

2 more I have records of are 5-0 at The Hawthorns 31/10/2009 with Malky as manager. Just over 2 months later we lost 5-0 at Stamford Bridge in FA Cup 3rd Round on 03/01/2010

Not sure what people are expecting. It’s a dangerous precedent to refund ticket money, after a hammering !

Only if they expect to get hammered 8-0 again. If that’s their reasoning...worrying times.

For AFC Wimbledon it does yes. They were formed on 30 May 2002(not sure if they played between then and 2003). This is just the reincarnated team. That's why I thought of checking them as a modern team that would have a big non league history.

Although obviously the website I linked to is not the oracle of football information. By a long shot.

There's a lot of info on that Tranfermarkt site.. but it's a bit hit and miss. Looking at our records here https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-watford/rekordspiele/verein/1010 it rightly states the Sunderland game in 82 as our biggest league win.. but then states that our "highest attendance" (obviously meaning home, away & neutral) was last years cup final.. ignoring the 100K attendance in 84. Other stat based websites might be more accurate.. but lack the detail.

For wfc you cant look further than Trefor Jones wfc archive.. including extensive pre war stats.. http://www.watfordfcarchive.com/seasons/
The mailing list stats are also a good source of info.. http://www.wfc.net/extrastats.php

So, sarcasm aside Lloyd, if you were in Foster's position, what would you have said?

(And I've got a lot of time for Ben Foster btw, I just think his interview was very poor).

QSF is communicating with the team nicely according to David Squires at the Guardian.

Everything's fine though. We still are only 2 points behind our equivalent games last season. We should easily win our next 17.

I can see it. We're not that far away from being a very good side! We had plenty of chances on Saturday - all we need is one of those go to in and it's a different game.

Yes we got a bit unlucky with the scoreline, but Man City will beat lots of teams 8-0 this season. They are sublime. In many ways, it's an honour to be the first to endure such a beating, as we will live longer in the memory.

I am not panicking yet. We have a great group of players and a top coach, plus our owners know what they are doing - they are football people.

    We will be fine.

It was our record LEAGUE defeat against Man City. The earlier argument over our two 11-0 loses was in the years 1897 and 1902 when we were a non-league team.

The amateur league has never been part of the football league that is why when a team from the professional 92 clubs gets drawn in a FA cup tie against a team outside the top four divisions they are said to be playing a non-league team.

Man City also broke their record for their highest league win ever with a non full strength team after a playing in midweek in addition to enduring a very long journey.

I seriously do not understand why some think that QSF will improve our defence - it has not worked so far. Other posters keep saying he did well in his first spell with a terrible squad. It was not terrible. The goalkeeper, defence and strikers ( unless Welbeck ever gets fit and back to his best) where all superior to what we have now. A lot of people forget how good Ben Watson was that season - miles better than Doucoure has been over the last year. Our best player over the last year has surely been Capoue and he was also playing well in QSFs first spell.

Yes we had some poor attacking midfielders such as Juardo, Abdi out of position, Ibarbo and Anya. However, our squad then was well set up for QSFs style more than our current squad is.

Easily forgotten as he really wasn't that good. Miles better than Doucoure? I get that Doucoure's form has been a bit in and out over the last 6 months but he is far better than Watson. Capoue was excellent last season but that was his best season by miles. The season before, most people couldn't work out how he kept his place. The defence had Nyom and Anya as full backs at the start of the season so not much difference to now

Yes Doucoure is a better player than Watson but the FORM he has been in especially over the last six months was in my opinion inferior to the form Watson showed that season. Watson was generally excellent that season. Doucoure has more natural ability and was excellent away to Everton and Man Utd last season but the real Doucoure has not showed up often enough in the last year. Doucoure's form has been consistently poor over the last 6 months for a player who is supposed to be our most valuable player.

Also Capoue was very poor in the 16/17 season under Walter after starting the season well but the season before under QSF he was generally excellent and was showing similar form to what he showed last season.

Nyom was not a great full back but in the first half of the season under QSF was generally very good and was very reliable defensively - far more so than Femenia. QSF set us up very defensively away to Man City that season and we only lost 2-0 with two second half goals. The defensive personal was far superior that season. Gomes was brilliant that season making a world class save in a 0-0 draw at home to Chelsea and saving TWO penalties in a 1-0 away to West Brom.

In my opinion the squad personal was more well suited to QSF's defensive minded sitting deep tactics than the current personel is which favours high pressing, high tempo attacking football which we showed in the second half at home to Arsenal. QSF needs to change his tactics to suit the personel he has to work with.

Still not 100% convinced on this, but it is basically semantics so not worth an argument. I think we can agree:
    1) we have lost a game in a league by more than 8 goals (whether you call this a league game is up to you)
    2) we have never lost a game by as much as 8-o in either the Premier League or Football League, before last Saturday.

In my view a Watson was the final piece in the jigsaw that season. He provided the oil in the midfield engine to keep it running smoothly: receive the ball and pass it on to a teammate. Of course even at his peak he was barely good enough to be a PL player, but he shouldn’t be compared with Doucouré, who is a different type entirely.

My experience has been the exact opposite.
People that dont normally waste time in taking the piss have, if anything, been sympathetic. I think they realised this was a bit much and backed off from the usual "banter" Some took into account the relative size of the clubs and i even had a LTFC fan say he'd laugh but he was fed up with the growing monopoly seen in football.

This being in contrast to the growing hysteria that has spread through this forum these past days.

It's not all down to money - other teams in the league didn't embarrass themselves like we did (Norwich and Bournemouth this season alone). Other fans have a right to mock us for this - we were weak and didn't put a shift in, so we had our pants taken down.

(Nice of him not to laugh though - although I hope you don;t return the favour after next year's two derbys)

He wont have seen the game.. as many others wouldn't have. Well maybe highlights on MoTD.

Not all down to money no.. but it is a factor, same as not putting a shift in is another one.
