I work in a large FE college (9000+ learners, 1000+ staff ) and its ******* chaotic , we can’t plan anything as the government change the message daily (not a political statement starmer is as much of a **** as Johnson).

I spend the morning working out how we were going to Implement a covid testing regime for staff and students based on guidance from last week, by lunch time it became apparent this was pointless as they are likely to close the college , I then spent the afternoon trying to work out what to do about the circa 2000 exams we have booked in for wed / thur / fri. I imagine I’m going to spend tomorrow doing something else random like tell 2000 learners their exams have been cancelled.

it was clear from the data 2 weeks ago (if not a month) that we would need to close education in January (and probably February) , if we had been realistic we could have be up and running with online learning from this week , but rather than plan logically we are being forced to waste weeks of time working towards things that cancelled at the last min.

I don’t understand how anybody that works with data (gov advisors) couldn’t see this coming form a mile away.

Whose to say that the advisors can’t? Doesn’t mean the government will follow the advice.

I've been quite stunned by the utter incompetence of this government. You expect Tories to be cruel and ruthless, but these are just bumbling fools.

Yes, of course, just like their attempts to close schools last year, it is not their job to close schools in a blanket fashion like they have tried to do. They are not the government. As it stands right now, with teachers being told to stay away on the basis of false claims against health and safety laws but with no examples of any breaches at each school they are just being dishonest. The latest ONS numbers show that teachers re no more at risk than other professions.

Yes, it was inevitable that restrictions would tighten and even taking into account the fact that we test far more than other nations, the recent numbers are far too high.

Starmer will of course claim credit with his "The Government followed our advice" line, but they don't fool me.
If it was that obvious (from a mile away), then why hadn't you planned for it?

It thinks ? The mind boggles. Bungle after bungle. A slow vaccination rollout, laissez-faire attitude, bowing to pressure not from experts but donors and the 1922 club. It does not help that a large section of the population are obese imbecilic dolts but still. Stay safe Clive and Cifriana. Your lives matter.

We got an email from the 14 yr old’s secondary school this afternoon with a very detailed testing timetable, starting with the 5th year, and sixth form this week then the rest of the school next week. Today was set aside for staff training re testing. Best laid plans and all that...

  10. Except for children of keyworkers and vulnerable children.

  11. Don't bother (with Top that is). It's never Johnson's fault. Rather than expecting the government to know what it's doing, you and the other overstretched staff should be devising / implementing multiple programmes for all scenarios but in particular the one that you have been told to do you should obviously ignore.

Just had an email from the school that they're unwilling to comply with government 'requests' for evidence of pupils' parents' previous keyworker status BUT 'might' require them for 'new' applications...

I think as frustrating as it all is and as time consuming as it all is I count myself lucky that I work in education not in health. Spent today working out how to run BTEC exams with no invigilators , doesn’t even vaguely compare to the stress that hospital / care staff must be under.

I dont think he ever delivered what he could on the rugby field, never lived up to his talents so him going on strike is a bit of a p1ss take.
