7th place is probably out of reach now. The relegation spots have been decided so we should be safe. I reckon we will finish safely in 14th. Bung on Bachman, Wilmot, Sinclair, Lukbakio, Berghuis and Olaré
Would like to see some rotation for sure. Rest Holebas, Cathcart, Caps (even if he wasn’t injured) and Hughes. Then for the West Ham game rest Mariappa, Femenia, Doucoure, Pereyra and Deulofeu.
This is actually quite a nice match to play now. Nothing on it for Watford. Highest place we can finish is 8th, and lowest is 11th. The game against West Ham will carry more on it, as a draw in that one will ensure we stay 10th and then claim to be a top 10 club, which has a nice ring to it. A draw tomorrow, could see us get 8th place, if we follow that up with a win over Spam, as I don't really think Everton or Leicester will add significantly to their current points tally. For us, it's now all about the cup final. Expect Chalobah to play in place of Capoue tomorrow.
Difficult to see a result without Capoue. I still think it's important to finish as high as possible in the league. It makes a difference regarding attracting new signings etc. Need to at least finish top 10.
Does it? I can see there might be a difference between finishing 7th and 17th but I'm not sure any potential signing will care if we finish 8th or 11th. If the money's right, they'll come. As for today, I reckon a patched up team will put on a good show but Chelsea will win without getting out of second gear.
Suppose it's that last bit that's most important. And the difference between 8th and 11th is about £6m. That's an Obbi Oulare.
Maybe you're right. It would be really disappointing if we roll over today. Wouldn't be good for confidence either!
I do hope your alluring to the "Baps" that Troy places his burger into, not the ones that might appear on his chest during/after pre-season.
I have just seen a preview of MOTD2, they said " Watford have had a good season with their highest league position in recent years, however today they had one eye on the cup final, they rested some players and Chelsea really didn't have to work hard for their victory! " Prove me wrong boys, please!
It’s the kind of nothing game that doesn’t really matter that means we might get a surprise result here, might
Every league place higher matters, money for the club and pride for the players. Hope they give it a real go. The odds are stacked against them though today so I’m not expecting anything other than a defeat but hey you never know
https://oldwatford.com/1986/05/05/5th-may-1986-division-one-chelsea-1-watford-5/ Can't believe that was 33 years ago. Seems like yesterday.
Ludicrous lineup. Risking the decent players ahead of our embarrassment at Wembley. Expecting at least one season ending injury today.
Risking players for the sake of finishing 10th instead of 11th. I get the argument for continuity but I don’t know why he hasn’t taken a couple more out of the firing line.
Maybe because the FA Cup Final is still 2 weeks away? Or because it'd send out the wrong message? Or because Javi hasn't beaten many top 6 teams this season and wants to better that record and because finishing above Everton is important to us?
A full strength side doesn't win today anyway. We threw away any hopes of finishing above our rivals in the first 7 seconds against Southampton.
But a lot of those players have played 6 games in April and haven’t had a rest in months. There’s no break between the league and the final; any fatigue won’t magically disappear. What message would it send? That we care more about an FA cup final than a dead rubber league game? No matter what Javi says you can be certain that’s how the players will all feel. And if he wants to beat a top 6 team then he can do that at Wembley. It would mean a lot more than finishing above Everton.
