Except Brexit has stopped that from being allowed in future as that specific scenario would not get enough points for a permit.

Yes, although I think most clubs were aware of that dynamic last summer too and planned for it accordingly. This summer, the downturn in last year’s revenues will be cancelled out by the increased certainty of revenues moving forward so I’d imagine business will take place in similar volume to last year. Toney’s fee will be benchmarked by Watkins’ and someone will be willing to pay more than it, such is his talent.

Why not? It's unlikely clubs are going to start spending big again so soon. I doubt they will until covid is no longer a factor.

I don't see any of our players attracting significant enough bids tbh. Sarr is not a £30 million player.

Will be more frustrating for us when Pozzo decides against stumping up the £2 million asking price.

You don't get that much for £30m these days, he's definitely worth that, whether he's worth £50m is the question

Pozzo is stubborn. He won't sell for less than he wants and he won't get offered the amount he wants imo

I suspect you'd be right if times were normal, but they're not.

The vast majority of a club's expenses are on a) wages b) new transfer fees c) payments for existing transfer arrangements.

If the entire transfer market is depressed and you can't move players on, you can't fix a) unless the players agree to a pay cut, and you can't earn b) at the same level as in normal times because no one will pay those fees. Payments under c) will continue, but that could well be a double edged sword for many clubs; they will have to pay out on already agreed terms too so for many, it'll be a wash or even cost them further.

I think we're a prime example of much of this in action; more senior players like Deeney and Gray are drawing high wages and, in usual times, we'd look to move them on. Right now, however, we're stuck with them because no one can afford anything and certainly won't want to take on their current wages. Knowing we have them on the wage bill for next year won't make them any less of a financial albatross if we don't got up this year.

Armstrong from Blackburn and Olise from Reading. Maybe look at Muff/Brentford depending on who misses out on promotion.

I don't think we will be looking at many lower league players tbh

Armstrong and Olise were the two I had in mind too.

The latter was great on the ball against us at The Vic a few weeks back.

A goal scorer of Toney’s ilk would also be nice, but they are hard to come by.

A lot of the usual suspects mentioned here, understandably.

But someone who I think has gone a little under the radar is Jed Wallace. Super player, as he showed yesterday. An excellent dribbler, goal scorer and set piece taker and just all round technically excellent. Not young any more (27) and, though versatile, he is predominantly right-sided (like Olise) but with a year left on his contract we could pick him for a small fee.

Even though he plays for the horrible hoops, - if we can get him for a reasonable fee, I think Robert ****ie at QPR would be a better squad player for next year than Wilmot.

Theres not one player in this league who would come in and make us suddenly a misld table premier league team again. If you can get a Will Hughes for 5m or someone only has a year left then it night be worth a go.

I really liked the look of Olise at Reading, only 19 years old could have huge sell on value.
I also like Mowatt at Barnsley and I believe his contract is up in the summer. We could potentially go for him if they don't go up, not sure he is an improvement but he is a good leader Barnsleys captain in fact and would be an excellent squad player and he was in The Championship team of the season. Part of me thinks we should have an eye on what happens if we do go down and bring in players that won't cost a an absolute fortune but have the potential to keep us up but if we were to get relegated would be ideal to get us back up.

Olise at Reading would be good but assume he is on long contract so will cost a lot plus looks good enough for other premiership clubs to be in for him

    It’s true.

That is also true, Liverpool, Leeds and Spurs have all been linked.

Kieffer Moore from Cardiff, just the type of player we need to play as our new No9.

I don't think he is good enough maybe in a year or two. All of my friends and family who support Coventry agree that he is far too light weight and needs to bulk up a little bit.

Nah. He would improve us. But wouldn't make us a solid mid table team. Add to that he is likely 35m - I'd rather have 3 Okakas.

Point is we cant spend all our budget on Championship players, when we already have the best Championship team (or top 2 teams).

Not saying he's value for money at that price.

But last two seasons our most glaring issue is lack of a decent striker.

    He's the best Championship striker.

Therefore my logic is he would improve us the most.

Most Championship players are crap. That's why we managed to get promoted despite being a shambles for half of the season.

Cue players from abroad we've never heard of.

    Or Udinese reserves of course.

True, though also part of the reason why I like Moore, Danjuma and Powell is that they're pretty much the only well regarded Championship attacking players who actually managed to score against us from open play.

Dasilva from Brentford would be a great signing. He plays just like an invincible-era Viera and would be worth every penny.

Bit of a strange comparison, he's not really a DM or ball-winning midfielder, he's more of an attack-minded box-to-box, dribbling midfielder.

He was very good against us mind.

Brentford would probably want an arm and a leg for him.

We could give them Deeney's arm and Gray's leg?
