If anything I provided a service to the forum because if anyone here is suffering in silence, brought about by the team's dismal performances, I have supplied a link to a resource they could turn to.

What have you done in the last 24 hours to address potential mental health issues?

I still think Palace will collapse. Their next 5 games are against City (H), Arsenal (A), Leicester (H), Chelsea (A) and Liverpool (H) so it's hard to see them picking up (m)any points there. Then if Zaha leaves in January they'll be in big trouble.

Yes agreed, we need a decent run to catch up and get into the relegation battle, at present it is happening above us.

Results from last season, where we only won the Palace home game of those fixtures, would suggest that isn't going to happen.

Newcastle, Wolves and Villa all responded positively to their predicaments while we responded incredibly negatively. Can't see where the wins are coming from. Draws maybe but draws count for very little.

I didn't remember it like that and it's not how the BBC describes it. I think we've had more fortunate wins in recent years than that.

    Your post actually said
"Link below for all the whiney melts on here.
    https://www.samaritans.org/"
ALL whiney melts. Not for anyone suffering from mental illness. You were attempting to be funny by suggesting anyone not feeling entirely "chipper" with our current predicament is suffering from depression/mental illness. Given from previous discussions on this forum we know that some posters do constantly battle with mental illness/depression, including Oxhey 67 who mysteriously stopped posting after posting something deeply worrying on his/her twitter feed, I think it was pretty poor taste.

It will be interesting to see what impact Zaha leaving has. Apparently he is below par at present and it might be that 2-3 good signings at £20-30m each with the £60-80m they would receive will strengthen the team and improve morale.

Can't see Zaha leaving in January and if he does we have seen from us last year how a good start of the season affects season as a whole.

Shame you have taken to try and take the moral high ground on me, seemingly because I didn't agree to all the degenerate ranting & raving about the teams current predicament from certain posters. Nothing about mental illness mentioned or alluded to & you probably know the correct understanding about the intention in which it was made on a football forum.

    Anyway, nuff said.....
You don't think we are right in the brown stuff, others including me do. We don't need to call the samaritans, you don't need to see a shrink. It's a football forum.

I am pretty pessimistic now. Yes I know it is still early days but the task ahead of us is enormous. Unless there is a dramatic upturn in our fortunes soon it will be too late to halt the slide.
Unless the Pozzos have some brilliant plan they need to be looking ahead to how to get us promoted from the Championship next season.

I think we will probably have to agree to disagree with this. We're a team lacking in confidence especially at the back so i felt it was important to get that clean sheet first. If you play that way you will get used to how it works so for me he did the right thing. I think we need to get past this, it was only Sheff Utd part. They have had a decent start and are not the whipping boys that many thought they would be, in fact that's us currently. For me to go with an attacking formation was not the way to go despite the fact it would have been far better to watch but the facts are, we kept a clean sheet which gives confidence and we should have won the game relatively comfortably

I was exaggerating a bit but we were certainly going to be on target for conceding and absolute bundle of goals unless we changes something. We know we haven't got the right players so QSF went with being as solid as possible but this does take something away from the attack, Having said that we still had easily the three best chances of the game and should have won. I think had we gone more attacking and then conceded the first goal we may well have lost the game. It's about baby steps and that was the first one. we only know if it's helped over the next few weeks

You are more tone deaf than I thought. I am seriously saying that equating people on a football message board, who have a different and utterly reasonable assessment of a football team's winless run are not to be equated with people who contact the Samaritans as a last hope before suicide.

You are making light of the mental health epidemic that has claimed the lives of more men under 50 (much of the demographic of this forum, I suspect) than cancer or heart disease.

The fact that you not only make the post, but then double down on it, completely missing the point of why it is in such utterly poor taste, says a lot about you.

If you think that making noise at football and always believing that things are rosy gives you some sort of moral superiority, then I simply have vastly different values from you.

I'm more for taking one game at a time and not looking at what games we might win in the future although that is quite a friendly run of games after Chelsea. Spurs first though and they're in a bit of a rut themselves and there will be a lot of pressure on them to beat the bottom side. Chances are of course is that they will but if we can stay tight defensively and keep it at 0-0 for as long as possible then the pressure will build. Football is a funny old game and you only have to look at Stoke's win at Swansea at the weekend to make you think, could we do the same. As I said, it's unlikely but lets concentrate on that first.

  16. wfcmoog

Nah, we just need to keep it tight and get a couple more draws. Something we can build on.

Why should we be "brushing them aside comfortably"? Muff and Chelsea didn't and Everton lost to them. All at home.

I understand that we started the season off with our players thinking we should 'brush this lot aside comfortably' and look where that's taken us.

Bill Shankly once said " Football is not a matter of life or death. It more than that ". Now, l accept that l have not quoted BS verbatim.
IMO, it is one of the most ridiculous quotes ever made regarding football. Utterly stupid.
Football is nothing in life. Ok, get worked up on matchday, then 24hrs later all forgotten, it's over. It means nothing.
This forum is an only outlet for frustration, match day anger and to take the piss.
We are S**t right now, we all know this. Relegation looks nailed on for us. I care as a fan, but l am not bothered. I don't own the club nor do l play for them. Will the players care? Not a chance.
Relegation will have a far reaching effect on and off the pitch.
It is just a game and never a matter of life or death.

At worst it was an unfunny jibe, no one here was affected in the slightest, you have unnecessarily taken the moral high ground & turned it into an agenda. Trying to score social points on here or something?

If you're so concerned about this issue, what about Frankie Boyle, should he be axed from TV for his comedy routines?

Score social points? From the archetypal "top football fan?"

You know nothing of the people who use this forum or the battles they have fought, even despite the clear and explicit explanation from TUT about just how close to home your flippancy was to many users on here, and my own demonstration of the reality of mental health amongst the main demographic of this forum.

You are beyond reasoning with. I have made the point in a way which I believe is crystal clear and your whataboutisms don't make that any different.

I'm just going to put you on ignore as your musings add nothing beneficial to my forum experience.

What other topics should be 'off-limits' for humour? Maybe you could provide a list?

There's a whole world of difference between recognising and sympathizing with someone's specific plight and a bit of knockabout humour.

I didn't think that the original 'joke' was insensitive at all. It merely pointed out that dropping two points in a football match isn't something to get so worked up about.

The voluntary Samaritans run a wonderful service for those in real need. Everyone recognises that.

If we can't expect to beat a side like this, then who do we expect to beat? It's not to say Sheff Utd are rubbish, far from it, but they are a newly promoted side, happy to take whatever they can get away from home, more in hope than expectation, and their strength will be at Bramall Lane.

We have to believe we can win this game, and play an attacking formation. To play a defensive formation is waving a white flag. It tells them "we're scared of you, and want a 0-0 but hope to pinch a goal on the break". For a home game against a newly promoted side, it's such a feeble thing to do. We didn't deserve to win with a game plan like that.

Maybe the sort of postings that got you banned ? :)
There are clearly a long list of topics that should be off limits eg paedophilia, rape, racism, etc.
It wasn't "....merely pointed out that dropping two points in a football match isn't something to get so worked up about." though that might have been the objective.
H4E thought it would be funny to suggest that those worried about relegation were depressed/suicidal so should contact samaritans.
It was poor taste given what has been discussed on here in the past, though there has probably been an overreaction given I doubt that was what was intended.
Let's all move on shall we ?

No doubt we 'did expect to win' although the Blades had taken five points from their previous three away matches. But Quique had to address the defensive shortcomings as a matter of urgency. You have been screaming for him (and Javi previously) to do so ever since my return to these forums. So he decided to 'get urgent'. Sod the opposition, sod the home and away thing. Sort it out now.

There's no 'white flag' about it at all. In our current predicament 'needs must'. That was the reason for our set-up. It had very little to do with the opposition and the venue.

Maybe, as the season progresses, Bramall Lane will become a fortress for them. But currently it isn't. Their away record is better. And they won at Everton. A thing we've never done.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see us play open, attacking football, carry all before us and threaten the top six and Europe. But that's not where we are right now. Is it?
