Career trajectories after leaving Watford...

Was thinking the other day about how the vast majority of players who have left us in recent years have either melted into obscurity (e.g. Merkel, Battocchio, Ekstrand) or failed to perform at similar or lower levels (e.g. Abdi, Toszer, Vydra).

So my challenge to the forum is to come up with a list of the 5 players that have most recently gone onto better things after leaving us.

To get us started, I would say:

    Layun
Bellerin (if we include loan players)

Not sure there's much of a case for anyone else in the Pozzo era, perhaps at a push Nyom?

Not recent but the following five did well after leaving us
John Barnes had a good career at Liverpool and for England
Kevin Richardson went to Arsenal and won the league
Ewan Roberts kept knocking in goals wherever he went
David Barnsley played for England as well as in the top division
David James Liverpool and England followed by a long career

Ighalo- Whilst not as re-known as he was in the 2015/16 season, he's on £190k a week in China which isn't exactly shabby for him

Forestieri- Granted he isn't in the Prem but he has established himself as one of the better strikers in the Championship

Jonathan Hogg- Just got promoted with Huddersfield and I wish him all the best

Knockaert- The catalyst for the Deeney goal which essentially gives him a spot as one of our own. Oh yeah, and he's in the Prem now

Deeney- When he goes to West Brom he'll win the golden boot as well as netting a total of 8 against us home and away combined.

Kevin Phillips, England caps and lots of goals in Premiership. European top scorer once I think?
Ben Foster, England caps and decent Premiership career.
Sean Dyche, decent enough managerial career so far.
Danny Rose, England caps and twice consecutively runner up in Premiership.
Steven Berghuis, Dutch caps and Eredivisie champion this season.

  11. Stewart Scullion. Went on to sore a goal against England.

  12. Elton John. Went on to have more hits than Stan Collimore could manage on even the most romantic of dates.

Anyone know how Iggy is doing in China football wise. Has he scored yet?

  14. Terry Mancini. Presented the Big Match a couple of times.

  15. Cally. Not much of a career, but last time I saw him, he was bigger than the club.

Took him 5 weeks to score then he scored twice in one game. Since then he hasn't scored again but he has got himself 2 assists. So in 11 games, 2 goals and 2 assists. Well played Gino for getting £20mil

One of the programmes last season reminded me how well Richard Jobson did for us in first GT era and had a great career after us playing until nearly age 40. Don't make em' like that any more. COYHS!

Danny Graham had one good season after us before going backwards big time.

Paul Robinson ought to be added to the list though as he had a pretty decent career.

Alan Mayes - went to Chelsea and Keith Cassells to Southampton after GT decided they were surplus to requirements. Both played for us in the fourth division. Billy Jennings went direct to west Ham, for what seemed an astronomical fee at the time.

Mind you that wasnt an inconsiderate amount of money back then, especially for a teenager with less than half a season played.

I'd always thought that we had a pretty poor record for ex players going onto to bettering themselves.. but when i see them listed here well i should think again.
