My first ever away game.
Back in the day Reading's arch rivals were Aldershot. Wonder how many Reading fans still feel that.
12 quid off peak return too, cheapest away game you'll get all season
1,200 tickets sold as of today actually looking forward to this one, hopefully we put a reasonable team out. I really think the club should show some ambition in the League cup its a great opportunity for one of the smaller teams as most top clubs dont take it seriously.
Whilst it certainly seems that it's not taken seriously by a lot of clubs, and appears to be a more attainable trophy than the FA Cup - if you have a look at the winners over recent years, the list makes for depressing reading:
2018: Man City
2017: Man Utd
2016: Man City
2014: Man City
The next 9 years saw only two clubs not within the 'big 6' to win it, which is perhaps where the impression of this cup being the most likely chance of silverware comes from - even if in reality, they're the only two 'other clubs' to be successful in the last 14 years:
2010: Man Utd
2009: Man Utd
2006: Man Utd
In all likelihood, if we somehow got to the final instead of going out in round 2, we'd probably have to beat one of the 'big clubs' (unlike Swansea, who thrashed league 2 Bradford).
What I think happens in the Cups these days is that no-one in the Premier League or the Championship takes them seriously, so upsets in the early rounds are few and far between. The big teams can just cruise through until around the semi-final when they start meeting each other. Years ago some of them would occasionally have been knocked out by lesser teams, so it was more likely that a smaller club would get to the final.
Interesting. I’m still not going to let this small fact get in the way though! And I still think that we should have progressed further than recent seasons.
The problem is that on recent years we have put out teams of fringe players, I don't agree with this as it short changes the fans, the only benefitters are the bookies as punters are betting on the form book, however with a different set of players there is no form!
It's our ******* year
How could you forget Trevor Senior ?
Are we out yet ?
Wonder if we are one of the neutral grounds Spurs are considering.
If they draw us at home we could end up the away team and no beer at half time.
Agreed. It’s coming home.
£13 for me and Diamon jr. I've paid more than that for friendlies before.
And we've been drawn against.... Tottenham. Away. Couldn't we have gotten something soft!?
Yep but where ?
It’ll be played at the Vic but as it’s Tottinghams home match Watford will only get 3000 ticket in the Vicarage Road end.
It’ll be a pub quiz question in 30 years time: When did Watford play an away fixture at Vicarage road?
So the draw is taking place in Morrisons in Colindale with John Barnes and Ray 'Obviously' Parlour.
Supermarket Sweep? They have to find the tin with the football club name on the underneath?
That would be fun!
Barnes no doubt going to found propping up the pie counter.
Oh, I use to work over the road and go there most lunchtimes. Absolute ********.
So from Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok to Colindale.
I wonder if there’s an outside chance that Barnes will do his World in Motion rap. I know he tends to play it down these days, but I live in hope
Oh good, a rematch against Manchester City
A nice reminder that, despite all the fawning/excitement over Poch, Spurs last trophy came 12 seasons ago.
Am bang up for this tournament , as I am every year .
Will be nice to see Penaranda, Lukebakio, Cucho and Pedro get some minutes in their legs before never seeing them again .
A Morrison’s in Colindale? I can’t think of anything less glamorous
You've clearly never been to the Wrexham Indoor Tennis Centre!
A Morrisons in Luton?
It has been something of a Watford traditional to give fan favourites a twirl in the League Cup before abruptly sending them to Sheffield Wednesday
Lukebakio prefers Lindt.
When do the tickets for this go on sale?
Have staked a place in the queue now . Let me know when you get here and I’ll get one for you .
