Bristol City vs Watford FC 25th November 19:45

So here we are the big one the mighty WFC take on the Championship Goliath that is Bristol City, the Hornets vs the Robins (am I the only one that think they missed a trick not calling themselves the Harveys).

After a painful and overall dismal performance Ivic’s boys go again , will our very own Troy “Lean Machine” Deeney play ahead of Gray or will Ivic cut his losses and sticky harry the Hornet up Front, lets be honest how we failed to score another goal on Saturday is testament to how truly clueless we are up front. Any average striker with a basic understanding of where the goal is would be walking away from the season with 30 goals. Sema on one side (ok didn't have his best game on Saturday) and Kiko on the other crossing it in is magnificent but it seems we need to rely on our defenders to get the job done. Kabs upfront anybody ? I just hope Hughes is fit and plays and that Capoue now used to his smart new haircut gets a grip.

Bristol ravaged by the COVID still managed a win against Derby, Mariappa (yes you heard that correct) didn't feature for the Harveys but is bound to start against us. Will we play 442, 352, 8,1,1 or try something new, maybe a revolutionary 444, or even scrap football and just play British Bulldog. Lets face with Ivic anything is possible I wouldn't even bet again Ivic and the boys annexing Bristol to make it part of Watford (you can take the skill out of football but can you take the Serb out of the manager)

The games are thick and fast from here to Christmas and as much as away games are fun, let’s be honest there’s no place like home, which is where we will be back next Saturday to meet Preston North End. Win the clash against Bristol and we stand a reasonable chance of ending 2020 in the top 2 with a string of hopefully easier games to follow.

So shut the **** up and tell me about Bristol I hear you say:

Bristol City founded in 1894, 13 years after the formation of Watford Rovers, play their games at the fortress that is Ashton Gate.

    upload_2020-11-22_13-54-49.png

Owned by billionaire tycoon Stephen Lansdown who also owns Bristol Bears rugby club, Bristol Flyers basketball and has interests in DZ racing. Stephen is a shrewd businessman starting as an accountant (so guess no arguing over their accounts) has built his empire on a simple philosophy, If you build it they will come. Let’s just hope they don’t sneak any rugby players onto the pitch.

Currently managed by Dean Holding who took over from Lee Johnson (axed for failing to make the play-offs , god I hate these teams that wont give managers a chance !!) , but there was lot of interest in the role from top names such as Chris Hughton, Steven Gerrard , John Terry and Mick McCarthy all linked.

FA cup runners up in 1909 and Welsh Cup winners in 1934 (not sure anybody noticed they were from England) and have a good record having won the second and third tier titles in their past, they really are the stuff that dreams are made of.

They have score a reasonable amount of goals this year with a wide range of players able to put it in the back of the net, main threat comes from Jamie Paterson, defensively Bristol are not bad, but will the likes of Mapps, Hunt , Vyner, Kalas be able to cope with the trickery of JP, Sarr who knows. I think a loss is Inconceivable (or should that be inevitable) but could see them holding us to a draw.

    So Bristol as a City

What can you say, I spent a lot of time in Bristol as a teenager (living in Exeter, Bristol was the closest place with any real nightlife excitement).

Highlights include the great (but now awkwardly named) Colston Hall which I believe is in the middle of being changes to Music McMusicVenue.

    upload_2020-11-22_13-55-6.png

Music McMusicVenue is the premier venue of the southwest (before anybody mentions westpoint – **** westpoint), I have seen some great gigs there, including Motorhead, Buzzcocks, Fugazi and Snuff.

Home to great shopping with a vibrant city centre (well at least it was till COVID) and the southwests best out of town shopping centre (yes, I know they are two a penny up your way, but this is the southwest).

So what else does Bristol have , well it has a dock, and we are not talking a dodgy dock like Portsmouth that is full of sailors looking for prostitutes , we are talking culture and Bristol’s very own SS Great Britain, built when some King or Queen was told that They where gonna need a Bigger boat”

    upload_2020-11-22_13-55-17.png

Bristol it really is the Stuff that dreams are made off

What kind of reaction can we expect when we visits Bristol, well they are well known for their exuberant celebrations.

    upload_2020-11-22_13-55-25.png

And with Bristol sitting in the playoff positions they are going to be keen to do a number on us, but to our boys I say this, make us proud Watford, shows us what you can do and may the force be with you.

Bristol city famous players include Roy Hodgson, John Ward (former Watford Assistant Manger), Tony Pulis, Steve Coppell , Lee Johnson, Dean Holden – Yes this is the club where second rate manages are born (obv Excluding current manager Dean Holden).

As for famous fans they have it all: Jenson Button, John Cleese , the Wurzels (part of Bristols great music heritage which includes bands like Portishead , Massive Attack and Bananrama ) and almost definitely Banksy.

Will we win, will we loose who knows, but what I say to you the fans, is ,Fasten your seat belts , this is going to be a bumpy night and if we lose we go again, after all , tomorrow is another day

    Bristol City 1 Watford 3

As you may have guessed as a special treat, I have added clues to 10 movies in the diatribe above, see if you can find them (or not – I don’t care).

And to those that say to me “Surely you can't be serious” this is a football forum you ****

    I say back “I am serious…and don't call me Shirley. –“

Side note my favourite quote of all time (which I couldn’t shoehorn into the above): “Nice Beaver”, “Thanks I have just had it stuffed”

I guess we will have another 2/3 new injuries.

And more swapping around in defence and midfield which whilst needed sometimes cannot help create any consistency or continuity.

    Unnecessary demonisation of Serbs.

Vlad to spend the week tearing into the squad and trying to instil a winning mentality, only for the squad to turn in another turgid performance and lose 2-0. Mariappa to score and Ken to end up screaming at his team mates to sort it out like he did v QPR.

We will revert to 3-5-2 play negatively, look good for a point but then lose 1-0.

Expect more of the same drivel from Ivic. Players played out of position. A negative mindset and players that have been playing well like Garner and Ngakia sat on the bench. I can't wait. How SS Great Britain was brought back from the Falkland Islands is far more interesting than this piddling season so far. Hive Dead.

Toughest game so far. Will be challenging most of the season, so a win here would be a good boost. Oh yeah, we can't perform away from home. Even under the giddy lights of Sky TV, the cold Bristol chill and a hateful of errors including bad subs, poor game management, and a HT formation change.

Expect our third defeat of the season, and low Morale as we head into the festive fixtures. QPR played us off the park, BC have strikers who can score, we do not.

    0-3

    Why are BC 3-1 outsiders?
    Surely its a bet
Unfortunately its still broken at wfc.
Watch the 'highlights' from sat. When that ball rolled across their area & deeney missed it & sarr skied it. Deeney rolls his eyes in disgust & hes captain???
As for that pathetic challenge by chalobah leading to their goal...
Even on a sunday morning that sort of play would not be accepted.
No team spirit or pride. Shocking

Tough away game, although they all are for us if we play anything like we did on Saturday then we will get battered. I am hoping to see some sort of reaction in this one Ivic seemed pissed off in his interview I hope he tells the lads some home truths and drops one or two players.

B@llox, I'm not wasting a tenner on this one.! Most of last season was horrible to watch, and this one's deteriorating fast. If we win and play well I'll take the slap, but I think I'll be safe....

Yeah for the first time this season I am thinking that I won't spend the money, it is hard to justify paying for it when the players can't even be arsed to try.

School trips to SS Great Britain a great memory.

Bristol Zoo was also a classic. Coach home with the obligatory animal mask on.

As it's away so we won't win. Might dig out the elephant mask in celebration if we score a point.

I measured it on Google Maps the other day, I live exactly 0.5 miles away from Ashton Gate. I'm fairly gutted that I can't even go to this game, as being in the same league as Bristol City was the only highlight I could muster from getting relegated last season. I can actually hear the noise from the stadium from my flat on most game days.

Do you mean away from home?

Only we've won all bar one of the home games scoring 3 in the last 2 which is hardly a disaster on that front even if the performances have bene patchy.

On the road I accept it's been a bit of a mess hardly scoring goals and generally being outplayed by lower mid-table sides.

What other games have we had on Sky this season? Boro and Derby, any others? That's two wins with clean sheets there, maybe our lot put a bit more effort in when more people are watching?
