Is it 1st April today? Absolutely no prospect of succeeding if they progress a claim. If by some strange miracle they were successful does it mean we could also make a legal challenge as the PL have already admitted VAR was wrong in failing to disallow Newcastle's goal against us for handball. The extra two points would put us above Villa and Bournemouth.

I think they have a slim to fair chance of succeeding. I didn’t rate Sheffield Utd’s chances very highly when they took the Premier League to arbitration after 06/07 over the Tevez saga but look how that ended up.

If they win it would be an extra kick in the teeth for us, given that we'd be only GD away from getting whatever additional compensation they'll have got.

If it happened on the last day I would say they would have something to argue, but it was weeks ago.

Not like it was the last kick of the game. There were 89 other minutes of that match for those two teams to score a goal.

    Non-starter.

    Last paragraph is telling...
The International Football Association Board (Ifab) rules state: "In principle, a match is not invalidated because of: malfunction(s) of the VAR technology (as for goal line technology (GLT))."

If VAR wasn’t in place and the ref made a mistake, could they also sue for that? Absolutely ridiculous.

I'd guess the point of their appeal is that GLT and VAR are not the same thing, but they're getting nowhere with that appeal. Who's to say Villa wouldn't have chucked the kitchen sink into getting an equaliser had that goal been given?

Just makes them look like bad losers , mistakes happen we all have to live with them.

if we were 3 points ahead of muff and Villa for the last game we could have played a different game and gone for the draw , would have had a lot less pressure etc etc

Good luck to them I say. The arrogance that runs through the Premier League and referees' body is to the detriment of the game. They're always eager to tell us plebs that goal line technology and Hawkeye offsides are accurate to the millimetre.

I wonder whether we could sue the PGMOL for negligence on the basis of the two handball goals that should've been disallowed if Bournemouth are successful? Anything that is remotely subjective clearly can't be challenged but twice VAR officials missed something that should've undoubtedly ruled goals out against us under the new black and white handball rules. Craig Pawson (and whoever the other one was) not paying attention seems to be pretty negligent to me, particularly as the TV companies picked up both errors pretty quickly.

Oh, we've absolutely been robbed this season, but nothing will come of it, unless an incident literally happens in the last kick of the game, you can never tell exactly how it's gonna impact on the game

Anyway, I bet Bournemouth are keeping very quiet about the penalty that Tottenham should have had against them

Even their own fans think it's sour grapes and well we have all been done over by VAR.

Yes, but some will clearly be harder done by than others. Those that say decisions even out over a season are full of ****.

We should retrospectively be crowned 14/15 Championship Winners then since Angella's first minute red card was rescinded.

    Go nuts.

If they go for it I don’t think they’ll be asking for the Villa v Sheff Utd game to be invalidated though. So it’s a bit of a pointless quote by the BBC journo.

I feel their case has more merit than the Tevez one, to be quite honest.

Before VAR, there was always going to be human error involved in split-second decisions where referees and linos were going to be unsighted for time to time, or not have the best view.

VAR turned that on its head. When someone can replay video footage from multiple angles and has as much time as they want to get to the right decision, there's no excuse for that error. For me, it becomes grossly negligent at that point.

The Tevez issue was very wishy-washy, because it hinged on gambling that whoever replaced him couldn't/wouldn't have contributed as much as him. That's a hypothetical and so far from concrete. In contrast, everyone can accept the clear evidence of their eyes over the Villa incident. It's stark. I can accept the ref missing it. I can accept Hawkeye having a perfect storm occlusion issue. I can't accept the group of bods watching the video replay being that level of incompetent. It's beyond the pale, and was obviously wrong even to those of us watching through the comparatively limited viewing opportunities offered on various broadcasts.

Had to laugh, obviously they brought in Mascherano at the same time, but they didn't pick up a single point when he played! Tevez himself took a long time to get going, think it was March before he got off the mark, did well in the end, but got outscored by Bobby Zamora, so yeah, it's not as if we were talking the superstar that he was to become

What they should be doing is discussing a legal challenge against whoever authorised spunking 35m on Ibe and Solanke.

I think after it happened Villa should have let Sheffield Utd score, similar to how Leeds let Villa score to make it fair.

Whilst I don't particularly like Bournemouth, I wish them well with this. Var and the officiating in the premier league this season has been abysmal and the people in charge should be held accountable. If Hawkeye fails, for whatever reason, Var should be able to step in and fix it.

I can't stand Bournemouth and am exceptionally happy they were relegated, but they've been done up like a kipper here. There's no denying it was an enormous and completely avoidable error, and they have suffered financially due to it.

But at the end of the day we can't be certain that Villa would not have redoubled their efforts and scored knowing that they were 1-0 down. I simply don't think the error and Bournemouth's relegation have sufficient legal proximity. There are too many potential intervening events between one and the other.

No way they'd have all known it was in from their vantage point on the pitch, not like the Leeds incident where they made a conscious decision that what they did was wrong

It was a ridiculous error but, trouble is you have to accept it an move on! If we hadn’t had all the dodgy VAR decisions at the beginning of the season we wouldn't be relegated either. In particular the Newcastle handball was accepted by officials to have been a mistake.

no way the Villa result could be overturned it would open a very large can of worms and as as frustrating as it is just wouldn’t be right especially as the team challenging the result wasn’t even playing

Exactly. Unfortunately for them they cannot win. Not even any compensation so they will no doubt abandon this course of action. Let's just hope St.Eddie leaves as that would hurt them greatly. Unfortunately their owner seems intent on buying more Ibe#s to keep him happy.

Vile are incredibly lucky to survive. Not just the Hawkeye incident. Some incredibly critical refereeing decisions went their way. Notably our match against them at Vile Park. Never let any Watford fan forget the name of Martin Atkinson. *****.

Not sour grapes at all as we deserve everything we got, but pretty much everything went against us this season, and pretty much everything went for Villa (despite being absolutely crap all season) They definitely are incredibly lucky to have survived.
