You'd have thought the National League could afford some ballboys for a game like this. Players having to fetch the ball back on a pretty slippy looking surface around the pitch is farcical.
I don't know if Tranmere are full-time professionals but they looked far stronger and fitter than Boreham Wood. Also, even before the game against Sutton, 'Wood were missing players through injury. Injuries during that game also didn't help their cause for today. Take into consideration three games in a week, all highly emotional events, and I'm not surprised they looked sluggish. BUT... playing against 10 men for that amount of time without really testing the opposition keeper was pretty poor. Amazingly poor really.
Tranmere came 2nd too and lost the final last year so maybe it was their time. BW manager didn't seem to take the defeat too well.. and it appears their fans haven't got a great reputation!
Probably a result for the best, look like they need a lot more to compete in League football. Send them a few loanees to help out.
We used to have a pretty good relationship with the 'Wood judging by the amount of pre-season friendlies...
Bricket Wood did very well getting that far. I think most of the players were in The Black Boy before the match though.
Well if the trend of the team losing one play-off final wins the next carries on they will be celebrating this time next year.
Is it still open? I think Bobbie Bell used to play in Bricket Wood,I seem to remember my Dad telling me 'he used to play for Watford'.
A pity they could not make it. Would have been nice to have another Hertfordshire team in the League. But what a dismal second half effort. Garrard did not make any effort to change tactics to utilize the extra player. Very complacent and ultimately punished by a bit of a howler from the keeper. Champion indeed.
TBF there will be another "Herts" Derby next season: Barnet (yeah, yeah, yeah) vs the 'Wood. Also In protest at the result I won't be wearing my Dukla Prague way top for, possibly, a week.
I used to work in Elstree and it was always known as Borehamwood not Boreham Wood, when did it change? I don't think we need another FL team near us even though they only get 700.
My grandmother was "evacced" to the 'Wood (from the East End) and settled here in '48. My Mum always said that it was always called "Boreham Wood".
