Sheffield United have announced to the Stock Exchange that they propose to raise £10 million with a convertible loan notes issue, with the club ready to hand manager Neil Warnock an enviable transfer kitty in January.

In recent weeks, United have shown they have every chance of retaining their Premiership status and with this in mind, club chairman Kevin McCabe has moved quickly to generate extra funds.

The move is conditional on shareholders' approval, but should it be given the go-ahead, Warnock could expect £5 million to help strengthen his squad.

Any remaining proceeds will be invested in two commercial ventures, with an extraordinary general meeting to be held before the convertible loans are issued to the Scarborough Investors, a group of companies 'directly or indirectly controlled by Kevin McCabe, his immediate family and/or related trusts,' according to the club's statement.

"These continue to be exciting times for Sheffield United, both on and off the pitch," said McCabe.

"I have said many times before that, whilst football will always remain at the heart of Sheffield United, our intention is to build a strong and successful business that can stand alone, regardless of what happens on the football pitch.

"This fund-raising is another stage in that process and I look forward with confidence."

According to this from they have to raise the money via a loan share issue and he will only actually get around £5 mill for transfers.

If he does do his usual purchase of about a million strikers, I hope we don't get Akinbiyi.

If that happened I'd go somewhere high like a cliff face and consider my future.

If we’d beaten Sheffield United, which we would have done if we’d had the same team out that played Man City they would not be in such a great position.

I’d be worried if our board put us in debt with loans in an attempt to keep us up…ambition is one thing, but united didn’t even make a profit by getting into the Premiership so that idea just seems stupid to me!

I believe that Colin is targetting Michael Owen, Marlon King, Dean Ashton and Ameobi as they don't seem able to get into their club's first teams at the moment.:p ;)

When you dump a car it costs about £250.

Maybe Warnock needs £10million to dump Ady Aki somewhere.

Or you can sell it for £10 and make £240 on the deal... maybe they could sell Aki to yeading for a tenner!!
