In News Of The World today its says: Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd will bid 1million for Scunthorpe's Billy Sharp. The 20-year-old striker has scored 16 goals this season and would replace crocked Marlon King. But Sharp is also being chased by West Brom.

I think Billy Sharp would be a great signing for only 1million. Just look at his goal-record he ha proved last season wasnt a one of because he has scored 16 goals already this season. Boothroyd's magic will get him to come to watford ahead of West Brom. Remeber Shittu almost going to WestBrom but he chose us instead. He would u want Sharp-1million or Eastwood-4.5million ;)

My only worry would be he is very much still quite young and unproven but then to be honest not who what well known experienced strikers even in the Championship strikers we could get without paying silly fees like 5 million for Eastwood.

How well will he do against a Premiership defence though? it's a big step. At his age he is a bit too old to be one for the future (we have plenty of them, Priskin etc) I'm thinking we need a more proven performer who can hit the ground running. Unfortunately we'll have to splash the cash to do this.

    We have to gamble!

Lets face it we have not got the money or the pulling power to attract a top notch proven premiership class striker to our club, period!

So what does that leave us?

IT LEAVES US THE LOWER LEAGUES!

We have to take a punt on one, or preferably two of the current hotshots from the lower leagues. They may not make the grade at our level, but then again they might.

What about Doyle at Reading, he came from the Irish League, incidently there was a thread on the old club MB about him, to which I posted a positive reply about trying tosign him, and that was before he went to Reading.

Anyway I digress, the point is we need players, we are very unlikely to be able to get players that have top notch guaranteed premiership quality, so lets get realistic and take a punt on the rough diamonds in the lower leagues.

ITS **** OR BUST TIME FOR US

Sharp is the type of player Boothroyd likes, young with a point to prove.
Proven in league 1, big step to the Premiership but has the potential to be a success, however if the worst happens and we get relegated I doubt Sharp would demand a transfer.

I’d rather we signed Sharp or someone similar than a big name who might throw a tantrum if we refused to sell in the summer (if we got relegated).

Building for the future, rather than the present seems quite sensible (even though in the short term it means its probably going to be hard for us)

Quite agree! Would rather sign him than someone that will just jump ship when we're relegated! Plus he'd score a bucket load in the championship next season! I say we get him before someone else does...

It depends whether we plan on losing Ashley. If so, I think we should go in for him.
