Many of you will have known him as "Big Pete" and those of you that did will know that he was a real gentle giant and a wonderful person.

My friend Pete collapsed and died yesterday on his way back to the station in Sheffield after having watched his beloved Hornets beat the blunts, and if he had to go I think he may not have chosen to go out in any other way!

I will miss my old friend, as I am sure will all of you who had the privilege to know him.

    May he R.I.P

Whoa. That's a huge, huge shock. I didn't know Big Pete as well as some of the others on here, but he was a genuinely nice guy, and one of the most passionate Watford fans out there.

My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time, VoR could you pass on my condolences please.

    RIP Big Pete.

Pete was one of the best. A big man with a passion for Watford & not a bad bone in his body.
I met Pete via the original message board and travelled with him or met him on many away trips and feel proud to have known him.
I didn't know his family but my thoughts go out to both Tom & Jimbo who I know were as close to family as you could get.
I'll miss you big man -

I don't usually do RIP submissions but having met Big Pete a couple of times at away games, especially around the time I start venturing along having made contact with a few on the original boards, I have to say he was a decent guy. As you say Jimbo there are worse ways to go. RIP.

well said cude - when ever you met Pete, always had a good word or a kind smile. Take care Tom, Perry and Jim.

This is really terrible news. It put me a dark cloud over me all day, and that's really not like old Fitz.

I got to know Pete on the trip up to Newcastle and back last season. Not only a gentle giant, but quick witted and very generous. A surprising person in many ways, I was truly glad to have met him.

I am really sorry. TVOR and PYA, please pass on condolences from me.

    Absolutely gobsmacked reading this.

As others have said Pete was a real gent and a gentle giant who travelled the length and breath of the country supporting the Hornets.

Condolences to his family and Jim and Tom who were so close to Pete, his presence will be sorely missed.

    RIP Big fella

I have only just seen this awful news. I met Pete on our pre-season a couple of years ago when he kindly drove a group of us from Barcelona to the game. I've often seen him for a quick chat since and, as all have said, he was a really lovely guy.

Jim & Tom, please pass my condolences on to his family.

deeply saddened by this, having known him for many years and watching many a game with him it's a great loss. He was one of the kindest most genuine guy you could meet.

At the request of people on here and Jimbo his best friend I have tried to upload an image of a few of us at plymouth a few years ago, Big Pete is in the bottom left of the picture with the glasses, I'm sure many of you will recognise him and hopefully have shared a pint with him.

    R.I.P big fella, always a Hornet.:badge:

Well most of the people have said what needs to be said about this great watford fan and human being - for those of us privelaged enough to have him as a friend and those who have travelled with him to matches home and away and the weekenders and over to Spain for the pre season tour this big Santa Claus will be greatly missed.

Always ready for a beer and grub he went about his life in a humble, dignified and honest manner ( we won't mention the office laptop, Pete). Good for a laugh and a joke and a pish take, the only time he ever wound me up was when he was sat in the Bar pre match we all go to, as I walked in he lifted his beer and bellowed "Russo Russo Ra ra ra" but he got a good laugh from everyone.

Pete and I went to Bristol away and we were joined by Tom for the Millwall game - Pete was in fine form at both. The saddest thing for me is that the Sheff Utd game may have been one of just a handful of games in the last 5 years or more where he went on his own - I know Pete liked Sheffield but you silly sod didn't need to stay there - I was meant to be on this trip for a weekender with him but got dates mixed up with a weekend booked months ago somewhere else - thanks for all the great times Pete it was an honour and pleasure to watch the Golden Boys with you, share time at other events and to drink beer with you and the away day muffins and coffee to get our traditional win....

RIP mate, thank you for your friendship and sort a few woof woof tick for when we join you up there!

:drinking: Take me home, country road.......:badge:

There is now a picture of Pete on the above post (No.24) on this thread, just click on the thumbnail picture to see a larger version of it.

Thanks for doing that smelly, as I would not have had a clue how to post a picture myself.

I don't know any details about Petes funeral as yet, but I will let you all know when I do.

Thanks for all your kind comments - Jimbo

As some have said already there are worse ways of leaving the world than watching the hornets battle for 3 away points, ain't a bad way to spend your final day. RIP

So sad to read this, always a face to look out for at the away matches and just glad I managed to see a bit of him this season, sat next to him at Norwich and had beer with him at ht at Hull. Top guy, very genuine, friendly and great sense of humour.
Can't believe won't see you again on the trains or the away days, RIP Pete.

    Hi Everyone,

I now know the details of "Big Pete's" funeral and rather than post them on here, can I ask anyone who would like the the details to private message PYA, (PaddingtonsYellowArmy) and he will pass them on to you, as I will not be around for a few days.

By the way I have emailed those of you who's email address I have.

There is an important amendment to Pete's funeral details, so if you have already contacted PYA please do so again.

I have sent a second email to those of you that I contacted the first time containing the revised arrangements.

Contact PYA by PM if you want the new information. Thank You Jimbo.
