I think Foster would have been a lot more positive with Derby's corners yesterday, but I think there's also a decent chance he would have come for one and misjudged it

  2. Bachmann looked very vulnerable to crosses last night. Scared to come off his line and when he did, he did it with no conviction or authority. Foster makes the odd slip up but dominates his box and gives the CBs support and confidence.
Maybe Bachmann will gain that confidence and dominate his area in the same way but we ain’t seen nothing yet.

Looked very similar at home to Tranmere last season. Hope Foster is back soon.

For some odd reason when I see this thread on the "New Posts" list, I keep misreading it as Beekeeper and I am mildly disappointed that I have no information about honey.

Bachman flapped the first time under pressure against derby and never really recovered. Got to say some of those corners derby whipped in we’re really good. Bachman will be relieved with the disallowed goal and will learn. His distribution was a lot better too.

Bachmann career has been filled with him flapping at crosses. He knows it is his weakness. It will not change. As with the Derby game, he flapped at the first cross and his confidence was shot. He did not want to come off his line. He was very lucky on Friday night. Ok, it was an own goal, but could Bachmann have done better? Needs to more dominant in the box, but it is his achilles heel.
Scott Loach, l remember the game against QPR at home when even the home fans were shouting "shoot" when QPR had the ball. Loach had zero confidence at the end of time at Watford and it has been a downward spiral for him since then.
Foster maybe more interested in his YouTube channel, but he should return to the line up asap.

Bachmann has issues with any ball crossed or a corner. It has been a problem for him throughout his career. Watch him and you will see that after he failed to deal with their first corner his confidence was shot. He does not like to come out further than the 6 yd box. He is not comfortable with that part of his game. It will not change, he will not get better at dealing with it.
Who can remember a young David James coming out for any ball floated into the 18yd box? Sometimes he caught it one handed or with both hands and at other times it sailed right over him for the opposition to have a chance to score. Catch it or miss it, he didn't let it bother him. Fun times as a fan.
I agree, Foster seems distracted by his outside interests, but l think he would have dealt the the aerial ball in a better way. Ok, his footwork is getting slower, but Foster is still our No1 keeper.

DJ was an excellent shot stopper but he got the name calamity for a reason. DJ’s distribution was decent but back before the sweeper keeper was really a thing. Alex chamberlain too he wasn’t to comfortable coming for crosses.

Scott Loach, now there's a name to conjure with. I remember Malky defending him saying "There's a reason why he's keeper for England U-21". We laughed and even Malky smiled when we said "There's no-one else!" I have never seen a Watford keeper let in so many long shots from outside the penalty area. He just never used his feet to move across, just stayed planted to the ground and dived despairingly.

Agreed. He let some absolutely bizarre goals in. Never understood what the hype was about.

I fully agree about Bachmann's lack of ability to claim crosses, and I would put Foster as a marginally better shot stopper but I value what Bachmann is able to that Foster cannot / will not do now.

Bachmann's more comfortable taking the ball with his feet and accurate distribution from foot both on the floor and drop kicking meaning we don't give the ball away as cheaply as we were which with our new style of play carries more importance when starting faster moves or keeping the ball under pressure. Not only that, his handling is significantly better partly because his footwork is better which was critical in our game v Coventry where he held everything, multiple times the ball bobbling just in front of him with a striker bearing down on him. I don't feel Foster would have held them and we would have lost the game because of it. Lastly Bachmann seems to be a lot more vocal when ordering the team around out of his box. It could be his voice is simply louder and carries further than Foster's but combined with his better footwork it does seem to make a difference I think.

Foster is someone we should be looking at replacing. Whether it's with Bachmann or Dahlberg it's hard to say but I personally don't want Foster as a starting keeper next Season as he's already regressed significantly compared to a year ago and was beginning to regularly cost us points when he was dropped. I would rather Dahlberg started next year regardless of division with Bachmann as his deputy and Elliott 3rd choice. Good blend of age and experience.

Some valid observations. I will admit Foster concerns me when the ball is at his feet.
    Thanks. Good points

Really good fan interview with him, directly addresses Derby's crossing as well. Feels Derby's crossing is unusually dangerous but I still agree with your point of his inability to claim crosses far from his line. Think my point on his more vocal presence is validated as he really makes a point of how it's a cornerstone of his style.
