They've signed a lot of players but noone that has jumped out at me as being overly impressive.

They got promoted largely thanks to Pukki's goals, he's been badly out of form for a while so they'll need to hope he can find his form again.

In addition, they were horrendous last season. We beat them twice despite also being crap. We've both come down from the PL but we had a stronger team last season than them.

If they lose a few of the names you listed, I'd be very surprised to see them challenging for the title.

Dowell, Gibson, Hugill and Skipp are excellent signings for this level I think, and they'll fit in fairly seamlessly for the players who are expected to leave. Pukki may be short of form and confidence, but if Hugill can get 15 in a bang average QPR side, he might do even better in a better Norwich side. They basically knew they were down well in advance, which helped them plan ahead, which was a luxury not afforded to us and Bournemouth (although at least we had loan players to come back and bit part players who perhaps should have featured more last season). Basically, I look at them, and think their squad is almost ready for the season even if they lose their key players, whereas with us, it's a lot more up in the air

Clearly this no mark of a defender that has’nt played for two years is far better than the two premier level defenders we already have.
    Fml. Ponzos out.

Thought they'd struggle as all their top players would leave, but it's not turned out like that so far, and probably won't end up as big firesale as they'd have feared. Like us, they need to be wary in case star players leave, although they seem to produce an endless amount of transfer hits. Us, Brentford and Norwich all have our own demons to deal with, but we're the favourites to go up at the moment

Their ‘top players’ weren’t good enough. Big gap in leagues.

They have 4-5 players who are definitely good enough for the Premier League, the rest? They're a weird one, there's nobody I could point to and say that they were massively out of their depth, just that most of them together weren't quite up to it

Agree, but if they were that good.......

A **** premier player is better than most championship. E.g. cleverly will be rolls Royce championship.

Cathcart would walk in to any other championship defences.

We wasn't even in for him and is he even better than what we already have anyway? In my opinion Ben Gibson is not a definitive improvement on what we have got. He was good ages ago at Middlesbrough but has not played in a long time at Burnley.

I think he’s better and has attributes we need being left-footed and a proven leader. And he’s better with the ball at his feet than our bunch. But is he £8m-£11m better? Doubtful. On loan, or for about £6m would have been a fair deal.

I think it’s more the fact that we are being linked with CB’s who are going elsewhere, which give the impression that we aren’t really bothered.

Why are we upset about a not getting a defender Who hasn’t played for two years?

Because CB’s who have certain attributes of that who are regulars elsewhere are probably financially beyond us now we are in the Championship?

I’m not saying Gibson is worth £11m in total right now - but he has many attributes we are missing in defence. Has a great Championship pedigree and did well in the PL too in the one season he was a regular. He’s better than what we have, and has scope to be far better than them with regular football.

We are likely seeing with Grimes how much it costs to buy players at Championship level who are regulars. Gibson was a player in a position of serious concern. I just hope we have passed on the opportunity because somehow we have something better lined up - but with our track record, I really really doubt it.

And they've got that new fella Quintilla on loan to replace him, not seen him before, but a bit part player at the 5th best team in Spain should have something about him

So we have missed out on him and Mawson (albeit with a concerning injury record) who are well versed with the Championship. A shame because he does offer a lot to a central pairing. A loan move as Norwich have offered with a view to buy could not have been that hard surely to achieve ? We have been keeping track of him so if we go up we might jump in. Dawson and Cathcart especially will be even more vulnerable then.

I suppose we have to wait and hope that someone else is lined up.
If they are then BG is irrelevant,if not then it does seem careless, especially given our failings in obtaining cbs in the last two seasons.
