You will know that I am no fan of the money system, but I was fascinated to see that there's a new exhibition coming at the British Museum, which will feature Communist banknotes.

These are generally much more interesting than capitalist ones and with much more inspiring themes. The most boring note of all of course, is the Yankee dollar which hasn't changed much in 120 years.

Here are some examples of beautiful notes. Anybody got any personal favourites?

An admittedly somewhat artist's impression of the Granma disembarcation in 1956 to start the Revolution. It was actually a shambles in which most were killed or captured.

Hong Kong $50. Note who it's issued by - the old Honkers & Shankers. HSBC to you and me. Those friendly everyday guys and gals from the TV ads.

Those crazy dayglo Dutch. These beauties were a staple of long weekend trips over to the 'Dam in the 80s and 90s.

I do worry about anyone that proudly displays an 'I'm with Corbyn' emblem badge & states they hate the money system, when they most likely use it every day (suggest something better) but thank you for these.

I like the Bhutan one and the Hong Kong 50.

What choice does one have? What a daft thing to say. It's not like those who oppose using currency can just opt out and continue functioning in society.

More relevantly to the thread, that Bhutanese note is really something. I like Canada's new bills as well but I'm biased.

Easy for people people moan/complain/oppose about everything nowadays, without doing the work, just tapping away their ideals on their keyboards & think they are making a worthwhile statement.

So please, save your moaning & criticism, be constructive & put a better worldwide monetary system forward, even if you feel it is only marginally better than the current one today, then people will listen to what is being said.

Sod the banknotes, there are some absolutely beautiful and historic silver coins out there. I'll have to check out if any of the commies produce them.

Get on the Crypto thread. Reids and I are working to take down the global banking system with our burgeoning Block Chain Billions.

How about you save your moaning and criticism, pal? If only it were as easy as you imply to get actual governments to consider your alternative economic models. As for doing the work, don't worry, I put quite a bit of time and effort into engaging with real-world politics and political systems. Can't speak for Clive but something tells me he might just do so as well.

The whole founding principle behind Bitcoin is that it is not dependent on governments or banks for transactions or policy. It's a democracy in the truest sense, for better or worse.

The block chain records every transaction and everyone on the block chain can see it. No need for banks, PayPal or other middle men. Ultimately should replace cash based mobile phone payments in the developing world (if not BTC then one of the other, myriad altcoins) taking power away from the few and offering it to the masses.

Currency then becomes a token of exchange, with proof of work in generation and proof of transaction when sent or received.

Please don't get passive aggressive by calling me Pal & don't presume anything, especially someone you've never met on an internet forum. Clive is probably not even his real name. Don't reply to this, there is no need for further discussion. Thanks.

Ive been waiting for the subject to come up on the board that no one could fall out over.

I really thought artistic banknotes might be the one.
    I was wrong :)

I am happy to confirm that Clive is not my real name.

Nor is my surname Kremlin either.

To be honest I quite like the UK bank notes. Not neccesarily the new plastic ones but lookign closely they are very intricate.

I've a feature wall in one of my front rooms at meister towers which has a chequerboard pattern of 20 & 50 pound notes stuck to it and my patio is a mosaic of £2 coins.

Ahhh come now children, not every thread needs to descend into a complete and utter farce.

Clive and I come from completely different political standpoints, but even I can appreciate the colour and design of the notes. Not every thread has to be an argument, we already have the politics thread for that.

I like those. Many people would benefit from having their backside pixellated.
You'd have thought they'd have Norse Gods or something though.

I used to have some tin trays and trinkets, but I sent them off to buy Manhattan. All I got back was a letter from Trump saying they preferred money but he was holding out for a better bid from Qatar.

I like the idea of our new banknotes.. mixing the old and the new. I just thought the execution was poor. Especially as the otherwise fantastic Snøhetta Design company was involved.

It's a funny thing about the Norse gods. They seem to be rarely mentioned here. I'm not sure whether that's because they were from a pre-christian time (Norway is quite a religious place) or there's something PC going on because a few nationalistic types use their symbolism.. or maybe it's just that i dont meet many people who discuss history. Dunno but could have made for a cracking design. Our last lot were historical figures but from relatively modern times.

How would that work with benefit payments?

p.s. A genuine question, not a sarccy one!
