So there will be lots of giddiness from Blackburn fans, probably some tongue in cheek proclamations about '******* the league' after what is probably the greatest signing in their pathetic history

 

Winners of the Premier League; Division One winners twice; FA Cup winners six times; League Cup winners; Charity Shield winners........hmmmm........I wish our history was as pathetic as theirs.

 

At least on a par with Shearer and Sutton I'd say.

Don’t think he’s actually joined them has he? I think the update today was they’d enquired about him but we remain favourites to sign him (sadly).

Yep. Fully trust in the recruitment team to strengthen up front, at left back and improve our chances.

I'm surprised that during the depressed transfer market we can't get a few loans in from teams struggling to sell players like we've creatively managed to do. These other clubs are so short sighted.

 

We probably had lots of offers but decided against it because we have better players already. TiP.

We can’t afford anyone else as we’ve still got the wages of Deeney & Capoue fully to pay. Many people just don’t want to believe it, but all the activity this window seems to point that way.

 

I know that....you know that....but....

 

I fear you are right. I think paying the wages of Deeney in particular is crippling us. We needed to move him on this summer. I still think we'll get someone in, one way or another but if we moved Deeney on we'd have a lot more wiggle room and a better balanced and more exciting squad as a result.

 

The squad would certainly be less bloated

 

That said, we don’t know this. It could equally be true that Deeney is on 70k and has seen that halved - and Gray is on 70k but has no clauses. I’d say it’s the wage bill in particular that is likely a big hinderance, rather than blaming any one player in particular. I’d equally say we could have 7.5k a week at least towards whatever player we want if we hadn’t needlessly brought in Murray.

I’m still not convinced that we are only paying that percentage of Murray’s wages. Seem’s very little in that deal for Brighton.

 

Leventhal seems pretty confident that Deeney is on more than that with no clause.

 

Maybe, maybe not. Leventhal says a lot of stuff. Deeney himself has denied he’s on that much on TalkSport.

 

Deeney might not wish to admit it though even if it were true - he still likes to display a persona of being a down-to-earth, no nonsense bloke from humble beginnings, so he may wish to downplay things which could rather point to him being a fancy dan, multi-multi-millionaire.

Indeed. We’ve improved the balance sheet by buying Pussetto from Udinese for £6 million and then loaning him back to them for free. Other clubs just aren’t capable of our manoeuvres.

 

Yep. It would be nice if Deeney would do the professional courtesy of actually getting to the required fitness to contribute if we are going to have to pay massive chunks of our budget to him.

Yep. Was pretty clear he's nowhere near the required level and not in shape.

 

How come he has played then if Ivic is so insistent on fitness and hard work being the key to getting in the 18?
Deeney has been unfit for a long time and not all of this is down to injuries.
