we could, should and would have won last night. webber was blatently offside. the officials shud go to specsavers!!
Or maybe we could have played well, scored 4 and not given a toss about the referee's performance. Just a thought...
jobbie, are you the celtic fan from the old mb ?? If so i doubt you were there and even if you are a Watford how anybody could come out with what you have said is beyond me. We didn't show up and got beaten by the better side.
Were you at the same game? Sheff U had 5 or 6 clear chances to score and we had.........none. I havent seen the goal on telly but i thought webber was in an offside position when whoever headed onto the bar, of course not offside when he put it in. The new offside rules are so complicated concerning active/passive players he could technically not have been offside since he didn't head the ball and wa s onside when he scored. now i'm confused.
He was in an offside position all along. And the offside rule hasn't changed in years - it's just the interpretation they keep fiddling with. However the gist of it remains constant: if a player gains an advantage by being in an offside position he is ruled offside. Simple. Webber was about 3yrds offside when his team mate headed at goal, and was still ahead of the last defender when he headed it in. How can you say he was onside when he scored? And I would say scoring a goal is an advantage, wouldn't you?
He was onside when he scored because the ball was infront of him. But i was just trying to point out how the rule has been clouded with this latest 'interpretation'
Only in the most technical way can you claim he was onside when he scored. The fact that he was offside from the original header infers that he remains offside until the move ends or he ceases to be interfering. LAW 11: OFFSIDE Offside Position It is not an offence in itself to be in an offside position. A player is in an offside position if: he is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent A player is not in an offside position if: he is in his own half of the field of play or he is level with the second last opponent or he is level with the last two opponents Offence A player in an offside position is only penalised if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by: interfering with play or interfering with an opponent or gaining an advantage by being in that position
You said you didn't understand the law and it confused you. I show you how simple it is and you surrender?! ???
its not the law that confuses me now its the way it's interpreted by referees. sorry if a lame attempt to lighten the argument offends you.
Just to add a twist to this, Richard Lee Saved the initial shot which then hit the underside of the bar, if the ball then went to webber straight away and he was in an offside position, then because the last player who touched the ball was a watford player then he is not offside. Now I haven't seen the goal on tv, so can't confirm or deny that is what happened.
Nope. Wrong. He was offside when the initial header (from his team mate) came towards goal and subsequently gained an advantage from being that offside position (the goal). Whether RL touched it or not is irrelevant in this case. (PS You're right about the order of events though).
Ok, as I said I haven't seen the goal on tv so was unsure if someone else touched the ball after Richard Lee.
dont know how we could have got anything out of that game last night. it was a shocking performance that deserved to be punished. if we played like that against arsenal or chelsea or someone like that it could have been easily 5 or more.
