I understand the forum being on twitter as it can help draw new people to the site, but I can't help but feel that these automated DISCUSS tweets are detrimental the forum as a whole.

I know it is a relatively uncommon occurrence but the bondy topic going up on twitter was terrible, and this is not the first time that the automated service has drawn attention to something that it really shouldn't have.

Im guessing it automatically posts popular topics on the twitter feed, but surely there should be an approval process before this happens. The fact that the bloody topic was open on the forum for 6+ hours was bad enough but also that it appears on twitter and gets spread like wildfire is terrible.

Im not having a go because I know running this forum is hugely time consuming and difficult, and I appreciate the effort from all the mods that goes into running it, but I just think some serious thought needs to go into whether or not these automated twitter posts are actually helping the forum at all.

What exactly was wrong with the Bond topic? Some over the top comments by the original poster aside (he didn't wish him dead or anything), everyone else seemed to forget this is a forum and decided to talk rubbish instead. If you don't like a topic don't post on it. If you don't agree with a person say so. I genuinely don't get the clamour to have that thread closed though accept it had to be in the end because it was going downhill fast. So by extension what's wrong with it coming up on Twitter? Do people genuinely not think Bond's error is worthy of discussion?

i think you've completely misunderstood my point UEA. in my opinion it is completely unacceptable for a supporters forum to be putting up tweets with the title 'time for bond to hang up his gloves.' do you honestly believe that his mistake today deserved that?

The problem isn't the stupid thread, it's the fact it made the forum look bad online which undoubtedly the owner and moderators who work hard to keep the forum as good as it is don't want to happen.

Agree with both points about that thread, and also the way certain titles could portray the forum in bad light.

UEA, I see what you're saying, but discussing Bondy's mistake for the 3rd is one thing... deliberately creating a thread suggesting a 20 year old young professional should retire and end his career as the consequence of a one mistake is an entirely different proposition.

Whoever wants to may argue that it is clearly a WUM having his/her/its fun may be right, but everybody's human. Read one thing like that out there and suddenly the individual concerned may be thinking 'how many others think the same?' in a club with a fanbase consisting of tens of thousands.

It's hyperbole on a football forum. Not for the first time. Unlikely to be the last time I reckon.

To whom did it make the forum look bad?? It's like headlines in the tabloids - designed to hook people in so they discuss things. I'd argue that actually a thread title like that is more likely to people click on it to see what was said and maybe contribute so I doubt the mods are that fussed.

It doesn't make the forum look bad, if anything, it gets people viewing the forum.

What would you rather Opti, I started regulating everything that people put on here and that got to any other platform, incase it's disagreeable?

I understand your concern, but the thing is automated, it doesn't pick popular threads, it picks the latest one created at every hour point when it drags one across, this is purely to keep the forum active at a time when I can't tweet 24/7. This is only the second time where I've felt it might be beneficial to just delete the tweet and over 2 years that's not really too bad. As for the thread itself, I closed it because it was going to descend to chaos, the actual subject (despite it being put across in a stupid manner by the OP) was a valid one.

The subject of the original thread was ok, but the title of the thread was poorly chosen, and unacceptable really. I do think that it will cast this forum in a bad light if threads with silly titles like that one keep popping up on twitter.

I am just sad that none of my excellent threads seem to get picked up by auto fed bot but The Molly Troll does

    :sad face:
