Pedro is an unknown not sure he is a front man. Welbeck is never fit. Success isn't a front man either. If Gray goes we need to replace really. Having said that if we are relegated Gray will likely stay with an exit of players elsewhere.

I;m sure NP will lay into those that need it behind the scenes. And will also look at his decisions with Shakespeare, Mullins and Stack and not make them again. All the decisions today were negative and to a degree cowardly. And not in his make up normally which makes it all the more puzzling.

1.Not risking Pussetto at the start where he is a natural but playing Pereyra
2.Not risking Pedro who despite his tender years is a far more accomplished player than Gray ever will be
    3.Taking off Deulofeu for Kabasele

It's a pity he cannot get hold of Atkinson either and give him a piece of his mind. Unaccountable *****.

    Yep.

We all love Mariappa as a bloke and for his commitment. And as back-up, sure. But crikey, he should never be a regular option.

My fear is that anyone of genuine defensive quality who may be prepared to join us, will look at who he has to play with and go elsewhere. I would.

There’s no point mentioning Pedro in any serious way. Today he was along for the coach ride because his foster dad couldn’t find a babysitter at short notice. He was never going to come on.

The problem with your point 2 is that NP sees what Pedro can do on the training ground and the fact that he isn't coming on tells you all you need to know at the moment.

Yet he brings on Gray. Who by that logic must be doing something decent on the training ground and we shouldn't question him.

I take your point, but the team's performance and his own decision making was awful tonight, it shouldn't be ignored because of the initial run of good results

We've seen what he can do at Fluminense and know what he is capable of and which why he was brought here. He already has better close control than Gray ever will and ability. Managers are reluctant to try kids but are you trying to tell me Gray is a better proposition at this stage ? He is beyond awful. It's a pity Welbeck has been out as at least then we have a genuine threat off the bench who is a decent footballer. Look at Greenwood at United or Martinelli at the Arse. They have ability and the managers have trusted them and their ability. I hope NP has not thought about the experience and the fact dear little Pedro is Brazilian and may be fazed by the PL and the cold. He's played in the Flu-Fla derbies so anything here will not faze him at all. That pass to set GD in on goal was abysmal . GD should have played him in but dwelt on the ball but was probably thinking is it worth it ?

Yes, I think he might have been badly roughed-up if he was pitched into a game like this.

We could sign someone better than Gray for the rest of the year. Or possibly a loan.

How do you mean roughed up ? He's already a pretty strong willed character who has already played in a very big derby has plenty of self belief. Why did we buy him then ? The recruitment team checked these things beforehand. They don't want a brilliant technical player who may be a weak willed sop on the pitch. I bet JP was itching to get on and show what he can do. And anything he does do or has done in his brief career puts most of Gray's to shame. You either believe in talent, ability and youth or go wth the tried and trusted.

But how can you trust Gray ? He is abysmal at every opportunity he has been given this season. We don't pay 70K a week for him to be Troys best buddy or a decent training partner at London Colney. We want a player who will score goals from the start of matches or make an impact off the bench. He's done nothing but embarrass himself by being barely able to control a football which surely is a prerequisite for a professional. Perhaps NP thinks that makes him superior to Pedro whose ball control must be even worse.

A very disappointing result against a very poor team.. We needed to avoid defeat tonight in order to show that the recent results were not a flash in the pan.
Will we revert back to the lazy and clueless performances of the past. .
We are back in the mix for relegation and some on here still say we are too good to go down.
We needed to win tonight and the result was a massive let down.
Can the players lift themselves after losing to such a poor side?

Did Drinkwater, Mings and Reina play in our first game against them? I don't think so. I thought they steadied Villa's defence with their experience to quite a degree.
The match was really like a cup-tie, with a notionally worse side getting the result with 'eyeballs-out' effort and a measure of luck.
I must own my computer dictated I should not see much of the second half.
I think we should get rid of Pereyra ( and I thought that before this match).

Just seen the winner - they easily won the ball in the air then Mings was allowed to run across the area to pass a to an unmarked player on the edge of the area.

    Lack of organisation and communication?

Also we had quite a few in the area for the first but they got to the rebound first .

We are 4th place in the form league. 6 games ago who would have taken that?
If we slip to 15th place in the form league we will stay up.

Not sure why Pearson has not reinstated Kabs. Look at our record with and without him. With him we've taken 22 points and only lost 2 games. Without him we've lost all but one, which was Spurs on Saturday.

Dawson has done well as a stand in but we're so much stronger with Kabs and Cathcart as the two in the centre.

We lost a close match and luck went against us, that happens in football.

Considering our recent form we were bound to lose soon, it's a shame it was today but it is what it is.

We weren't going to be unbeaten all season...

Well true but we brought him on and evened up losing anyway.

As I say the winner was very poor on our part - a free header , free dribble in our area and a free shot.

    All by defenders too!!

One block or tackle and it would have been 1-1.

    No. They didn't.

Mings in particular was good. Not sure about Drinkwater. And Reina I think just scrambled the supposedly great saves (or they hit him).

Mings was a big boost to their defense.

I agree....it's ironic, he comes on for 3 minutes and we concede, but overall we're so much better with him playing alongside Cathcart. The stats don't lie. The run is a long one.

    With Kabasele P 14 W 5 D 7 L 2

    Without Kabasele P 10 W 0 D 1 L 9

    The difference is remarkable.

We were standing off them all half. The press was sporadic and not commited. We've got ourselves out the drop zone with a positive approach, this was negative. The time wasting in the entire game tells us everything about the approach (although it was funny at the time).

If we'd have got a point or all 3 we'd all be saying it didnt click but job done and onto the next game.

Special note for Grealish, whom is the single most over rated player in the league. He's a pansy flicks and poncey passes showpony. Miles and miles off being good enough for England.

10 mins off the bench isn't very long to make a difference. No striker in world football is guaranteed to make a difference as a 10 min sub every week let alone Gray.

I've come to the conclusion. I love the 'highs' but just cannot stand the 'lows' football gives you. This one seems to be a really bad one though. I'm glad it's cold outside and my rope is locked away in the shed. I cannot be bothered to get it.

I think you may have misunderstood what I said. It was not intended to suggest Gray was a better choice, I was not even thinking about Gray and made no comment on him. I saw Pedro play against Tranmere: He is skilful and quite quick and brave. But he is slightly built and the Tranmere players got stuck into him good and hard and he limped out of some of the tackles. I think this might have happened again particularly tonight and I think it is a possibility, not a certainty, that Pearson might have thought that, too. Maybe he will be introduced to the first team carefully. Being slender never held Ashley Young back and there is a decent chance we will see Pedro soon, but not tonight.

    Romario?

Johan Cruyff: "one day, Romario asked me if he could miss training to go to Brazil for carnival. I said, if you score 2 goals tomorrow. He scored twice in 20 minutes against Madrid and asked me to be replaced and said coach, my ane leaves in 1 hour" Greatness

I would imagine Romario had some game time in the first team. Could he have done it every week as a 10 minute sub playing for a team in the bottom 3 in the premier League? Im pretty sure he got some good service in the box in Cruyff's side too.
