    Simple question.

No "but look how many points we have!" or "but we're in the top 6!". Simply are you bored watching our football?

Truthfully yes I’ve found a lot of the football a bit dull. Brief moments to cheer me up and a couple of decent halves - I’m talking about the entertainment side of things, which overall hasn’t been good.

However I do feel there are a number of other factors at play, no crowds, some games not even fake crowd noise, definitely some of the emotion seems to have been taken away.

I took the approach of not watching today and I’m definitely happier - check the score - 1-0 win so happy days.

I may take it a step further and avoid the matchday threads on here as well because they have become depressing to scroll through.

We seem slightly worse to watch away from home so maybe those on here that never used to go to away games should not tune in and just look at the scores. May cheer your moods.

Also, I’m of the belief that there is still a possibility the entertainment side of it may improve. It’s happened with other managers in the past (Dyche springs to mind).

I can't deny a lot of our play right now is boring to watch, but at least we ain't losing many games, which really would be soul destroying as well as boring. Therefore as long as our results justify the means, I will never be bored by our team getting a good result and more often than not winning!!!

This season is all about getting back to the PL, and if that means we have to grind out boring 1-0 wins by any means, I would rather we do that than play more expansive entertaining football and ending up on the wrong end of an exciting 4-3 defeat.

I would prefer exciting attractive football like I expect most of us would, and hopefully if we get promoted, we might see more of that next season or possibly not till the season after as next season might be about consolidating and rebuilding our team.

So lets accept that this and possibly next season is more about winning promotion and then rebuilding for the PL than playing free flowing attractive football. In other words longer term thinking, rather than maybe playing more expansive and attractive football whilst possibly slipping down the leagues.

Yep. You kind of accept it in premier league because half the teams have vastly more resource but when we are even more negative a division below it breaks the spirit.

10 of our 18 games have had only 1 goal or fewer. I never thought I would say that about Watford. It’s quite sad actually.

It is a real shame the one benefit of relegation (outclassing teams, even if its infrequent, winning 4/5-0 every now and then) hasn’t materialised.

The annoying thing about this debate and that it persists is that for the seven millionth time, no one is demanding 'free flowing, attractive football' - they're demanding effective football in which we try and attack at all/the requisite amount to be likely to win the required amount of games.

I've said it before and I'll say it again (now, and hopefully nevermore) that I would gladly watch us Burnley our way to promotion. We are very far from doing that. That would be interesting to watch in itself, rather than what we have currently, which is holding on by the skin of our teeth, defenders literally hitting each other and regularly banging the ball straight out of play for no reason, and a team who can hardly complete a pass let alone construct an attacking opportunity in the opponent's box, whether it be through intricate passing or an accurate cross onto the head of a central striker.

It's an amusing fallacy that our players are currently trying to play intricate passing football and failing; it's not that, very far from it. They're just not particularly trying to play in any defined style at all. It's like they've met up in a park on a Sunday for a kickabout, for the first time ever.

Yep, it's dull. I think that's the last 10 quid I'll spend on streaming and just watch when we are on TV.

For what it's worth I still think we will get promoted.

I assume OP has only supported Watford since 2015 and doesn’t remember the Sean Dyche years when we were both awful to watch and also lost every home game 0-1.

For the first time in years I was able to watch this game but stayed in bed. I did finish work at 5am ko 8 am where I am. But I set an alarm and would normally get up and watch, today I think I made the right decision

Yes ..... there is no way that with these tactics and the way the players are applying themselves that we are getting promoted. We should be building a team that takes the Championship by storm and is by and large playing in a away that will see us readying ourselves for the premier league .... like Wolves and Leeds did (albeit the wheels seem to be falling off of Leeds). Yes I get it’s a different situation financially but my god we are playing pub football right now .... we can’t string 2 forward passes together.... no movement..... no ambition..... we don’t impose our game on our opponents - some might say no cojones. I tell you one thing. Right now on current performances we don’t have a single premier league quality player

Could argue with the season shorter and games every 3/4 days ivic is being tactically savvy. In the new year will the teams playing faster tempo burn out have more injuries as ivic keeps his squad that little bit fresher.

However I’ve said I don’t think ivic is the guy to take us forward as today we got the 3 points but potentially we can drop points like recent weeks against teams this group of players should be dominant and strolling to big wins.

    Nope.
We have been crap defensively for years and years and now finally we are mastering it with very average players.
You can't win anything if you concede loads of goals so now we will have a chance.
    Go and get promotion with:
Deeney,Murray,Gray,Capoue,Chalobah,Cleverley,Quina and Success taking up 8 of the "attacking" squad places.
    Thank Ivic for defensive organisation.

Personally I am not hung up about promotion and think we are better placed in the Championship anyway - the money in the Prem now is just ridiculous. . But just want to be entertained rather than put to sleep

I certainly am . It’s a combination of sone lifeless performances and lack of crowds etc. However, I’ll put up with all of it and not mind , if we can get back to the premier league for next season

It's insufferable and it's also not that effective. 'We're fourth' yes, but on course for the lottery of the playoffs.

Surely top 2 has to be our aim. We are not close to showing we are on course for that.

    Our luck will run out.

I don't object to the grinding out of a result when its needed. In fact, I applaud it. It's the stuff of champions, but when teams have lay down and exposed their underbelly, we have shown we don't have a champion's ability to hurt them.

Being solid is all well and good, but you have to have your own method of attack. Hoping for a dodgy penalty is not a sustainable method of winning matches.

I'm bored of watching us on TV via crap streams with no fans in the stadium. The Championship is a war of attrition and football is about more than just watching the actual football.

We're largely getting results even though it's not very exciting to watch, but the whole thing will continue to be a bore fest until we're back in the ground.

I would argue the exact opposite. We’re playing completely crap boring football, but if we didn’t have team of mostly ex premier league players we wouldn’t be a few points off the top of the table, that’s the only thing that’s keeping us where we are.

Fans survived the doldrums of the early Nineties. Gates around 7-8k. We can survive watching slightly dull football in the comfort of our own homes.

As much as I want us to get promoted, I feel this squad isn't ready. Yesterday was a pathetically defensive display against one of the lowest scoring sides in the Championship, and we hardly troubled them

If we can only play good pressing football in 15 minute bursts, we might get a few more 8-0 battering. No doubt a lot of this rabble would be moved on if we went up, but this season is about showing they have the metal to fight for that place. Nothing we have seen bar maybe two games have demonstrated this.

I wouldn’t really see it as being any different to our first season up. The question will be, will the owners spend the TV money to stay up, or will they have been so spooked by relegation they do a Norwich and just bank the money and possibly try and sell us.

Yes it’s boring. But most football is at the moment. Whether that’s down to lack of fans, quantity of football or the modern day obsession of winning possession stats is anyone’s guess.

Absolutely it will, and when it does we'll literally nosedive. The manager will be fired, a new one will come in, results will improve for 3 weeks before diving off a cliff again. Rinse and repeat.

Anyone who thinks we're going up this season needs to quickly re-assess.

Agreed. Best case scenario, unless things drastically improve, will be scraping a playoff position. Even then, if we face anyone with any attacking intent, we'll get battered.

I tend to think a play-off spot is pretty likely, although I wouldn’t give us a hope of actually winning the thing.

What is a very real risk, with everyone being so inconsistent (hence why as bad as we’ve been, we’re only 1 point off automatics) is that sooner or later two teams will stick a run together of five or so wins on the bounce and autos will be completely out of reach.

I think that’s a very real and likely possibility.

Being solid will help us if we end up in the playoffs i think. The not too exciting football may be hard on some folks week in week out but in one off games it may prove beneficial.

    Yes, I’m bored. Very bored.

I actually that they shutdown back in March/April would be a huge benefit to us. We’d have a full ‘Pearson pre-season’ and I thought we’d have a bit of an edge in terms of fitness. It was the complete opposite. We limply surrendered and barely troubled most teams we met after the restart - a promising display against Leicester was a false dawn.

This season, I think, was always going to be transitional. I was probably expecting more players to depart, and do think some of the malaise is down to those who didn’t get moves probably not being as ready to roll their sleeves up (and I’m getting closer and closer to suggesting Sarr is part of that group - what’s happened to him?).

Our defence still needs work. I’m not convinced Troost is that much of an upgrade on what we’ve got, and our midfield is pretty poor. Accommodating Cleverley, Chalobah and Garner (who I think has been one of our better players overall in fairness) means we lose a lot of zip and mobility, but then again, Quina seems very hit and miss.

It’s certainly not pretty to watch, but so far, it’s been reasonably effective. Given the standard of our performances we’ve done well to be in touch. My concern is this squad should’ve now acclimatised to the league and we should be in a position to take the shackles off somewhat; we aren’t, and I don’t know if that’s down to Ivic or the players not being bothered.

Ivic talks a good game to the media but I think he will rightly be under pressure should the balance tip away from us and we end up on the wrong side of one goal games, as could easily be the case.
