Did it in a time of 1 hour and 10 minutes just stayed at the same pace all the way round. I know it's not a time to write home about but i'm hardly Paula Radcliffe.

Raised a good few £££ for my charity as well. Actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would, may do another one.

Good effort mate. Great to hear you raised a bit for charity too. You have a time now, beat it next time! :)

Well done on doing it tom.

I have a place in the London Marathon for next year so need to choose a charity and get training- properly training!

Have you thought about the Royal Society for the Protection of Moog?

    If you're looking for suggestions....

Marie Curie nurses are a good charity. They stay with people who are on their last legs to give carers an evening off whilst the terminally ill can stay at home.

Mrs. Moog has signed me up for the Watford 10k.

I'm a bit conflicted about it, because, on the one hand I want to support a local event and will hopefully raise a few quid for Watford Mencap though my sponsorship, but on the other hand, running is really boring.

Anyone else on here doing it?

It can get boring, but 10k isn't too far, so you only have to be bored for a short while!
    Do you run much moog?
I'm just back from a marathon prep race in Kingston.

I don't run much. I crack out 5k a couple of times a week and a few interval sessions, but prefer weight training, which doesn't help with running and vice versa.

I'll never be a "runner" but I like to keep fit

Fartlek, the plank and warm up cool down. Is the best advice i can give.
Fartlek (sprint, jog , walk with progressions) The plank ( as already said , core stability)
Warm up ( stretch AFTER warming up) Cool down ( to reduce lactic acid build up)

Not that i do any of this stuff tho!...

I don't/can't run far enough to get bored.

Can't make the Watford 10k but definately looking at doing another 10k somewhere perhaps in the summer.

Most ive ever run for charity was 3 miles for sport relief last year, as soon as i finished that had to race to my footy match. Its fair to say ill never be running 3 miles then doing 90mins straight after ever again!
Well done Tom for doing the 10k though :)

You dont run much but crack out 5k twice a week :sign15: ?!?

I think for the more serious runners (half marathon and upwards) 5k is pretty tame.

For me though, it's as much as I can stand or be bothered to do regularly.

5k may as well be 50k for most of us lard arses.

I run 2 or 3 times a week , about 3 miles each time , kickbox once or twice a week , with at least 20 minutes (split into rounds of 5) at 70% of sparring , and i dont feel as fit as i could do , BMI of 31 , apparrently should be 26...! it gtes harder to shift that weight as you get older

My stopwatch stopped half way around, but I think I did it in about 58 minutes, which I'm not too unhappy with.

Initially, when I first entered, my goal was to go sub 50. Then, as the event got nearer, I started gaining weight and focussing much more on heavy lifting work in the gym and less on running, so I revised my goal to 55 minutes.

Eventually, I barely got any running in and I just wanted to get around the course without stopping.

It was tough for me, as it was a hilly course, with most runners around me stopping to walk up many of the hills, but I just wanted to keep running round the whole cours.

I could probably have got a faster time, if I'd walked up hills, then gone faster on the flats and downhill but I wanted to just keep going, so I ended up going at a moderate, constant pace.

Don't mention the fact that Mrs. Moog hasn't trained at all as she's been injured, but went around in her PB of 53 minutes.

She's rubbing my nose in it now as it's the first time she's beaten me.

Just take it nice and slow stop occasionaly treat it as a fast walk as long as you make it that's the most important thing.

i've used heart rate monitors and nike plus gadgets before and found both to hugely useful for my runs. there is something nice about being able to put what you're doing on a graph and watch it change over time.

i did my first every run with gps shizzle today though (i got a fancy new phone) and i have to say it blows the others out the water (thats a reference to me living next to a beach (in australia))! i love the accuracy and immediacy of it all.

A big thread bump I know, but I felt really good about myself when reading this again as I have got into running in a much bigger way in the last 6 months.

I completed a cross country 5k in just over 25 minutes this morning, which considering I am still a fat barsteward I'm really pleased with and am doing my first half marathon on 6 May. I've joined a running club and train 3 times a week.

Anyone else got any races coming up?

Any advice for my first half marathon appreciated too?

Tom that's cracking stuff, might be doing the Leeds 10K but the course is awful as it's constant hills. I also don't feel fit enough to do it but I might

    Well , on NYE i weighed in at 16st 7lb , i am now at 14st 10lb , and run 5 miles twice a week , sometimes 3 times a week

My problem is , i`m enjoying the running an all (am using an APP called runtastic , which is great shows the distcance , speed etc etc et) but im not sure what running shoes to get as i am getting pain on my right foot , around the middle on the outside of the foot , not enought to stop me but enough to irritate , and i think its because my trainers might not be the best

    any tips?

I think some department stores and running shops offer a service to monitor your gait and advise on shoes which would suit. Likely to mean that you'll pay a princely sum for them, however.

I just buy the cheapest running shoes on sale at sportsdirect, but then, I hate running and don't want to enjoy it.

thats waht im wearing moog , but im thinking over time , it might not be very healthy to use crappy trainers

  33. wfcmoog

It's probably not. Your way will serve your joints and tendons better in the long term. Book in for one of those analysis and advice sessions. Do John Lewis do them? I think they do.

There is a place in the Xscape building called the Sweat Shop and they use all sorts of different things to judge what trainers are best for your feet. For example they will put you in a pair of trainers in the shop and watch you run from one side of the shop to the other so they can see your style. I reckon it is a load of bollix but a pal of mine who is serious about his running swears by them and reckons they talk a lot of sense. You won't get a £20 pair of trainers in there like you will in Sport and Soccer but you will be able to pick a decent pair up for £50/£60 or so.

What route do you take when you do your five miles, Layton?
