Got a bit dragged into whytes game in round 2 but his class shone through in the end. Onward to bigger and better things.

    Bump.

We're all expecting Joshua to walk away with the title this weekend aren't we? I mean, look at this guy. He's going to get his head taken off.

'This is what we live for. The Main Event. The big bombs.' (as Martin rabbit punches Zumbano Love to the ground for two minutes.)

'The enriched uranium is coming alive in the ring'

    'Like Manny Pacquiao'

'The Taste of Triumph!' in the style of Christian Bale's Batman.

Joshua should win but it concerns me he's talking about Fury when he's got to get the job done on Saturday.

It took Martin 10 rounds to get rid of him ?

If he keeps his right hand that low against Joshua he'll get KO'd in 2 or 3 rounds

I can see it going to 8, 9 or maybe even the 10th. Both can punch and neither will want to get close enough to get caught

The problem AJ is going to have is that he controls the ring largely by being slap bang in the centre. He needs to work on his footwork to become a much better fighter. He has the power and the hand speed but he needs to box someone.

I can see someone like Fury giving him a hard time as he is a very tactical fighter, he can move and has a large reach. He can dance around and cause his opponents to make mistakes.

Whilst there are no current 'greats' in the HW division it is an exciting division to watch.

What time are we expecting this fight to start? The show starts at 6 so I'm thinking around 9ish?

Fury would be a nightmare fight for Joshua right now. The good thing about the chance to fight Martin for the belt is that, if he wins, he'll be forced to stay at that level and defend against contenders. He'll learn a lot from that alone. People mustn't forget how relatively new to this Joshua is. 15 fights and 30 something rounds is nowhere near enough to truly learn how to work a ring like a top pro.

In an ideal world: Joshua wins, defends against a few tricky opponents and then takes on Wilder/Povetkin when ready. The prospect of an all-British Heavyweight unification fight is mouthwatering. Fury/Joshua is the golden egg of boxing. I don't think it would make for a particularly good fight, but the titles on the line and clash of personalities would make it massive.

Agree, I think Fury would be a little too soon for Joshua.

I do think that with a little more experience, AJ could become a great of the division,

Wow, After pre match, half time, and post match beers I'll be seeing 3 of them by that time.

I'll watch the one in the middle.

I think Joshua will win, but it will be tough for him this weekend. I expect a knockout in round 7. Joshua to start fast and take a few hits in 4 and 5 before rallying in 6 and downing him.

I dont want Joshua to fight Fury yet. Like others have said defend the title for a bit, fight Haye at some point and shut him up and then consider taking on fury.

Joshua within 5, then hopefully he defends it at Vicarage Road. Would be class.

Wouldn't like to see him fight Haye or Fury just yet, I think he could beat them both but Fury is extremely awkward/bigger and Haye could knock AJ out if he isn't careful.

Not a chance now I'm afraid, now that his reputation has grown so much.

Why fight at Vicarage Road when he has the box office draw to sell out the O2? There's so much money in that, Eddie Hearn would laugh him out of the room if he suggested it.

It's not always about the size of the crowd, if the fight is one people want to see they can still use a smaller venue but charge more for tickets and TV. I agree though I would be surprised to see him fight at the vic.

Wouldn't happen as the slope may affect the boxers.

Pretty sure The Vic has a bigger capacity than the o2 anyway...if you add seating on the pitch

I've got £50 on Joshua to knock Martin out in the 8th round at 16/1.

Come on AJ! Will be a tough test.

Probably true, but from a marketing perspective could do wonders. Not that he really needs it tbh, unless he loses tonight.

Pah, I thought it was going to be a long one so I came up to bed just after the ring walk so I wouldn't get sucked into a late one. Missed it. Great win. That will put him in a new stratosphere. Couldn't happen to a nicer lad. He's done Watford proud.

I had a few quid on AJ in round ten. Don't think many people foresaw a second round ko.

He is quite good. Glad I streamed it and didn't waste £15 on that!

Seriously quick. How the hell does Charles Martin even have a belt?

Farce. What a load of bull****e some of these belts are.

Happy that Joshua won, but seriously, Martin was nothing, gave nothing, offered nothing. Heavyweight championship of the world? Joke.

Bbc say he is the sixth British heavyweight champ, but what about Herby Hyde and Henry Akinwande, off the top of my head.

He should take Wilder's belt next.

Its true ... all that pitch laying plant is buried under the centre circle because we had no way of getting it out and you really don't want to know where they hide the crane

Very impressive. Could have done nothing more.

Can't say how good his opponent really was though. The next fight will probably tell us far more.

Lol........did he even take a punch? Needs to steer clear of fury, haye and wilder for a little while yet. Keep beating on a few minnows before taking on the sharks.

Give him a couple of fights against acceptable opposition. Tge winner of Parker/Takam would be good, especially if it's Parker. Perhaps give Glazkov the opportunity he lost against Martin.

Once he's tested himself regularly at that level, it's time to see him against Haye and the other top 10 regulars. That's where I think he'll be exposed.

  34. Optimistichornet

    Optimistichornet Penguin Assassin

The heavyweight belts at the time were not held in high regard moog hence their reigns tend to be discounted. A little unfair really as you can only beat the opposition in front of you.

  35. Jellyman

    Jellyman Squad Player

Surely this can't be an official line/policy?

Who cares if they weren't held in high regard, they're still Heavyweight World Championships? If you have a belt, you're a champ. If they're going to apply a certain prestige quota before you can be called a 'Champion', then let's start with Anthony Joshua, beneficiary of potentially the easiest route to a HW title in history (perhaps apart from Martin himself).
