I see our hometown boy continues to leave all he comes across on their backs on the canvas. Yet to really be given a challenge though, so it really is difficult to see how much ability he really does have.

Eddie Hearn has mentioned they would to set up a bout at the Vic. Would be great if they could but he'll need decent opposition.

As much as it would be great and AJ has ready mentioned he would love to.
Eddie Hearn cares about one thing and that's money, would he organise an event at VR with up to 30,000 spectators when he could sell out O2/Wembley?
Not dismissing it as I really want it to happen but this is my only worry.

  5. nascot

Well he said they've already had preliminary talks with Watford.

AJ wouldn't sell out Wembley. Not yet anyway. Too early in his career and any opposition now wouldn't be a big enough pull.

It's probably too early for a fight with Fury or Haye, but with the British title (seemingly) vacant, a fight between Joshua and David Price at Vicarage Road is pretty perfect. Price is one of those nice guys, won't be too much needle and he knows he'd be a very good test for Joshua.

Fury and Haye (if he fancies coming out of retirement to get beaten) are O2 fights most likely and to be honest I'd want Joshua to steer clear of that nutball Chisora at this stage of his career.

The only way that he'd headline Wembley is against Vladimir for the World title and he never fights outside of Germany. Even if he agreed, you'd need a massive undercard, probably with the likes of DeGale and Groves on it to even consider that big a stage.

Eddie Hearn is indeed a money man but unlike his dad and other promoters before him, the best deal for his fighters is paramount in his mind as well.

Crazy how he'd sell out 80k seaters when most people know the fight will last one round.

It'll ruin the pitch for a season, won't it?

Not sure the fee would cover the damage, let alone the recovery time needed to repair it and the stadium. All that kit they used to deliver the equipment and staging for the last Elton concert could only be put in because of the access which has now disappeared as we've a new Community Stand.

If he wants to fight in Watford, there's Leavesden Studios, Cassiobury Park, or for a reduced fee, Oceana or the Colosseum.

Wembley Arena is a better bet and just as local.

  9. GoingDown

How do they do events at major stadiums? Those seats go all the way round though

  10. nascot

Plenty of access between the Rookery and East Stand.

  11. Optimistichornet

    he wouldn't though.

he is only going to sell 80k seats for a fight that everyone wants to see, and that is not against some has been who will struggle to go three rounds. currently joshua has not been tested, but he certainly is not a finished article and i expect when he starts coming up against some of the bigger more well rounded boxers then he will get tested. i would love to see a title for a british title at the vic and then a world title at wembley, but thats quite a long way away currently.

Current world heavyweight rankings as of 12/11:

    Rank/Name/Country/Record/KOs

    1 Wladimir Klitschko (Ukraine) 62-3, 53
    2 Kubrat Pulev (Bulgaria) 20-0, 11
    3 Alexander Povetkin (Russia) 28-1, 20
    4 Bermane Stiverne (Canada) 24-1-1, 20
    5 Vyacheslav Glazkov (Ukraine) 18-0-1, 11
    6 Tyson Fury (England) 22-0, 16
    7 Carlos Takam (France) 30-2-1, 23
    8 Tony Thompson (USA) 39-5, 26
    9 Deontay Wilder (USA) 32-0, 32
    10 Ruslan Chagaev (Uzbekistan) 33-2-1, 20
    11 Tomasz Adamek (Poland) 49-3, 29
    12 Bryant Jennings (USA) 19-0, 10
    13 Mike Perez (USA) 20-1-1, 12
    14 Chris Arreola (USA) 35-4, 31
    15 Dereck Chisora (England) 19-4, 12
    16 Luis Ortiz (Cuba) 22-0, 19
    17 Fres Oquendo (USA) 37-8, 24
    18 Odlanier Solis (Cuba) 20-2, 13
    19 Steve Cunningham (USA) 28-6, 13
    20 Andy Ruiz Jnr (USA) 23-0, 17

Current British rankings (prior to Joshua vs Sprott):

    Rank/Name/Home/Record/KOs

    1 Tyson Fury (Manchester) 22-0, 16
    2 Dereck Chisora (Finchley) 20-4, 12
    3 David Price (Liverpool) 18-2, 15
    4 Sam Sexton (Norwich) 19-3, 7
    5 Michael Sprott (Reading) 40-21, 17
    6 Anthony Joshua (Watford) 9-0, 9
    7 Ian Lewison (Brixton) 10-2-1, 6
    8 Richard Towers (Sheffield) 14-1, 11
    9 Gary Cornish (Inverness) 19-0, 10
    10- Hughie Fury (Stockport) 13-0, 8

I honestly think that he needs to beat one of Fury, Chisora or Price in the next 12 months. I would personally steer clear of Chisora, the man is an absolute nutter but is capable of beating the best on his day. I would think he is more likely to fight price in 2015 rather than the other two, as he needs to force his way in there. I would think he may be able to fill a bigger venue for Fury or Chisora, but it certainly would not be a one round fight as they are extremely competent in their own rights and more than capable of beating Joshua.

He just won a British title eliminator so that's not far off. That's the fight for Vicarage Road. Against Price I would hope.

lol i edited my post after this. i agree with you, i think price will probably be a 2015 fight.

Excellent post. Looking at the records, Ruiz Jr. and Joshua could be the fight that puts heavyweight boxing back on the big stage. Especially with Ruiz signed to Top Rank, something I'd expect Joshua to be by 2017/18.

Wilder isn't as good as his record suggests and Jennings doesn't have the ability that Joshua or Ruiz has.

Personally I don't want Joshua to fight Chisora as the dark arts isn't something he needs exposure to at this point, Fury seems to have gone completely nuts and Haye is a non entity.

He wins all three of those fights, perhaps not comfortably but he wins them. Too big and too strong.

Absolutely terrible. They are apparently the best two british heavyweights.

Am I the only one who thinks Anthony could actually do a job at the back? Would love to see a back three of Angella, Bassong and Anthony Joshua. Would get us promoted IMHO.

Anthony Joshua would dismantle them two I think.

Chisora like you said is a decent boxer but his head is just not there. AJ's calmer head would see him through the fight.

  21. Optimistichornet

he just needs to test himself a bit more next year, no need to rush into fighting these big boys, a nice summer fight against price will suit.

  22. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

The domestic heavyweight scene is pretty dire. These guys will have to be fought sooner rather than later as there isn't many others around.

Johnson will be a decent test for AJ.

  23. Optimistichornet

Laid out flat on his back by AJ within two rounds. Everyone will once again talk about the calibre of the opponent but that was impressive. Where next?

  24. Jellyman

Needs somebody at the level of David Price, Tony Thompson or Manuel Charr. If he can beat a few at that level then it's time to talk about Deontay Wilder.

Whyte should be a half decent fight at least.

  29. Optimistichornet

    Optimistichornet Penguin Assassin

nope, Joshua will knock him out in three. Whyte is a decent fighter, but way below AJ's current level. He has raw talent, but AJ is far more disciplined and should be able to take him to bits really.

  30. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

Joshua needs to move on to international class fighters soon, there's simply nothing domestically that can threaten him.

Good fight and good for Joshua's development to have to dig a bit deeper and go a bit longer.
