Luther is certainly quite rightly not happy with the club. Alienating fans and now legends of the club.

Gray didn't do a lot today apart that chip on target that the goalie had to tip over.

But the team overall didn't play well again, it isn't just Gray's fault alone that the team misfired.

    You mean his mishit cross.
You are correct the team was rubbish again
However if the"focal point" up top doesn't touch the ball....i.e. it's his job to bring others into play

Look @manut . If you are not Andre or his agent/wife/friend I do not see the point of your defence of a highly paid 1 in 30 striker. Unless you are trolling .

Can't remember if it were here or on Twitter, but someone said that Gray isn't often the reason we lose, but he's so often the reason we don't win, at best, he misses a boatload, at worst, he's just absolutely nowhere

Just watched that torturous interview. I don’t blame Gray for the interview or even his performances on the pitch. He is just not playing well and hasn’t been since he arrived. That is down to a number of factors, such as his ability, not enough chances being created, lack of confidence etc. He cannot be expected to publicly state that he is not good enough. If it did click for him, he could go on a goal scoring run, but that looks unlikely.

As for the interviewer, why he mentioned Luther, I simply don’t know. Very poor decision. Luther was and always will be a hero of mine. A true Watford legend, who brought great joy to us fans. A couple of interesting points about Luther from my point of view. Firstly, I became an England football fan (for a very brief period and against my instincts!) and took great pride when he scored a hat trick for them against Luxembourg (I think?). I think I still have clippings of that in a scrapbook in an attic somewhere. Secondly, I was devastated when he left us for Milan, but again a sense of pride that a Watford player would be signed by one of the European giants of football. His return was welcome, but he was coming to the end of his career by that stage. He was with us in the glory years when we journeyed from the lowest league division to runners up in the First and his goals were a fundamental part of that.

The joy and pride he brought to the supporters is in stark contrast to the feelings we are currently experiencing. For those that are too young to remember Luther, Jenkins, Callaghan etc, my apologies for the nostalgic review, but I thoroughly enjoyed the brief reminisce.

Gray is ****. He's always been **** for us and will continue to be **** for us. Now Perica and Success are back he shouldn't be anywhere near the team. I don't want to see any of this ******** about playing him into form or hoping he gets a goal to kick start a run. He's ****, absolutely **** and I'm ******* sick of seeing this **** on the pitch for us. I don't care if he's on 70k a week, I don't want him near the team. I don't even want him in the U23s because I'd rather the kids played, why should they lose their place to that *****?

No need to apologise! I remember there being some buzz at school when Foster was called up to the England squad as third choice when he was on loan, I can't imagine how exciting it must have been for a Watford player to score a hattrick for England (even if it were against Luxembourg and he could have had 10!).

What on earth was that interview about? So what Blissett missed his share of chances, how can you compare a bona fide club legend and one of the best English forwards of his time to someone who can hardly kick the ball? That's before you take into account all of the off-field stuff...

What on earth was the point of that interview? If it was an apology for Covid-breaking incidents then it's come several weeks too late. Was it an apolology for Gray being crap because of low confidence despite the fact he's been generally crap most of the time he's been with us? Was it another attempt to say that he's a really decent chap but has just been misunderstood, just like with the crap non-explanation of the ill-judged ear-cupping goal celebration? It really comes across as a blatant, cynical attempt by the club to try and get the fans off his back as if that will be the panacea, the defining moment where the shackles will come off poor little Andre, and the goals will start to flow. Then perhaps there will be less attention and less criticism about the beyond-stupid long-term contracts for Deeney and Gray, the revolving-door Roman-emperor-at-the-colloseum-style hiring and firing along with its p1ss-poor recruitment strategy over the last few seasons. This is a very bad attempt by the club at smoke and mirrors which will placate the few but totally p1ss-off the many.

Luther has more integrity in the fingernail on his little finger than in a whole team of mis-understood, secret millionaire charity loving, goal choking, ear-cupping Andre Grays.

I’m also not sure what the point of the interview was, I’m afraid Gray hasn’t been very good for us (understatement) for some reason we paid well over the odds for him, same as we did for Ellington, however it’s a bit like paying over the odds for a second hand car, whatever you do to it it you are never going to get your money back! With Ellington we managed to minimise the losses somewhat by loaning him out, something we haven’t managed to do with Gray.

I hope someone realises before it’s too late that he can’t score in the championship, and aren’t waiting until we find ourselves in a division in which he does score in!

I understand (though do not agree with) the whole trying to play him into form thing but now that it’s clear it’s not going to work, the best way to recoup any of our outlay and get him off the books in the summer would be to freeze him out leaving some other championship side’s recruitment team to conclude that somehow he was kept out our side for non-footballing reasons and just needs a new environment to get firing. Trying and failing to get him back up to speed is actually reducing his value further at this point.

Even the most ramshackle old banger will have some scrap value and a saving from not having to pay road tax and insurance after it's sold. With the mis-firing, stuttering, gear-grinding AG Vanden Plas and his chugging, rust-bucket Wolseley Hornet strike partner we'll be lucky to get loose change and a bag full of washers.

I suppose if he were still here then Glenn Murray could have been the motorcycle and sidecar combo much beloved of George and Mildred.

He hasn't misses a bucketload. He's only had 10 starts and missed a few chances. Been too quiet mostly and not in form. Like the team of late.

Then I suggest you go back and watch all our games this season where he has been involved and he has missed bucket loads. You seriously have to either be Deeney or a family of Gray. The nonsense you spit out about Gray is ludicrous. If Gray finished all the chances he had been presented this season, we would be top of the league be some distance. Even if he scored half of them we would most likely be top. Just admit that he’s finished. Show some humility, hold your hands up, admit you were wrong and get on with it. The whole watford fan base can’t be wrong and you’re the only one who has seen the light on Gray.

I know you’ve said that, but then you inexplicably post things about Gray that aren’t true. To deny that he has missed buckets loads this season, is a slap in the face to every watford fan that has seen him do so. The only thing that he has done “well” all season is get into scoring positions when he finally isn’t offside. Every other aspect has been woeful. Passing, first touch, pressing from the front, positioning, anticipation, decision making and last but not least, finishing.

I’m just trying to understand your need to always counter argue other posters on Gray. However it’s your right to do so, it’s just bizarre to me. To each their own though. So I will leave it at that as I’ve had my say and I don’t wish to fall out with a fellow orn over a piece of crap that isn’t worth my time.

I’m not sure we’d be “top of the league by some distance” if Gray finished his chances. I think it was posted somewhere that he has about 7 xG this season and has scored once. Would those extra 6 goals really be enough to fire us up well ahead of our rivals. I’m not sure - we’d still have only scored 30 odd goals this season which isn’t a title winning return is it. That’s not to mention that many of the chances fell in games that we ended up winning (he missed a hatful v Barnsley for instance).

Gray’s crap. But this isn’t a title winning team if he scores those goals.

Misleading. Those XG stats are expected goals, goals a 7 year old girl would have scored. What it doesn’t include is all the half chances he has missed that most strikers would be able to put some of them away. So the stats are very misleading.

We would be well ahead at the top if Gray could score.

If it was Toney instead of Gray for those chances, no-one can deny that we would be well clear. He really has missed chance after chance.

  23. LeedsOrn

    LeedsOrn Reservist

Yeah that’s not how xG works, which I would have you know considering that you are normally fairly engaged with the statistical side of things. xG is modelled on average finishing, as figured out by assessing thousand of shot positions and their outcomes across several top leagues over a long period of time, not what a seven year old could score. xG includes half-chances. The only thing it doesn’t include is when the player doesn’t get a shot away, but I can’t recall too many of those non-shot chances for Gray in recent matches.

Which games can you think of where Gray should have scored and scoring would have changed the result? Off the top of my head I can think only of Swansea (A) (which was admittedly a pretty important game) and then maybe Huddersfield away (where Gray had some really good chances to get us back in the game at 2-0). So let’s be generous and say those earn as an extra 4 points, still not top.

Now if you want to say “we would be top if we had a striker who was as good at creating chances for himself and scoring them as Toney” then that’s a different claim.

I think better analogies would be buying a boat:

    1. They say the two greatest moments if the life of a boat-owner are when they first buy it and when they finally sell it.
    2. The joys of boat ownership can be replicated by by standing in a working shower in your clothes, wearing roller-skates, and attempting to re-tile it while your partner flushes £10 down the toilet as fast as they possibly can.

If , and I am aware this is a big if, those 6 goals were scored in our drawn matches then that is an extra 12 points. So just imagine where we would be if we had a striker on between 12 and 15 goals ?

Not a chance I’m watching this having read all the comments. Bad mouthing the guy with the most goals ever is taking it to a new low.
Gray is not solely to blame for our performances on the pitch but if you know as a team mate that your main striker is not going to score its a problem. If you know that if you pass to him that 50% of the time he will miss control it then it’s a problem. If you know that the other 50% of the time when he does control it he mis places a pass it’s a problem. FFS Munoz, have some balls and don’t pick him
