Because the squad has been ravaged by injury you aching simpleton.

You were completely and utterly wrong about mazzarri. Suck it up. I'm guessing you are one of those awful obese watford fans who have never laced up a pair of boots and so are completely clueless when it comes to the nuances of the game.

Thinking realistically - we might be 9th , but we're also 4 points away from 15th. It's tight in the bottom half and with Tottenham, Liverpool, Everton and a big banana skin game against an in-form Hull (haven't lost at home since Silva took over), we'll most likely drop down that table pretty quickly.

Also had a run in with Dawson, I think , as he 'accidentally ' ran in to WM on the touch line. Words were exchanged
And a bit of finger pointing.

So, what you're saying is, that with an injury hit team and thin squad fitness wise, it was impossible for us to attack teams? Righto, because putting every man behind the ball worked well for us didn't it.

I've played football more than most on this forum by the way, but good guess though.

2 good results in a row, fair play to him.

Doesn't paper over the ****hes served up to us for 90% of the season.

    Sorry sweetheart.

If people can easily blame Walter for us losing, why can't they easily attribute the win to him? Are you implying the players did it on their own back, because where the hell have they been then when we were losing?

Football fans eh? A couple of wins, a better, half-decent performance and a quite excellent one including 2/3 of terrific football and 1/3 of an enforced, battling rearguard action and suddenly an embattled head coach is flavour of the month again.

It was ever thus. We're fickle. Or has nobody else ever noticed that before?

If we could muster a performance like last night even 60/40 of the time. I'd be quite content.

I'm not sure what is meant by the gloating. Ultimately one day Walter will either be sacked or leave in ignominy so I'll keep my powder dry til then shall I? You will probably be jizzing over the 4 trophies he won here with us but I'll focus on his last 7 defeats in a row which got him the sack to prove that o was right all along.

Wally has had the tools to deliver performances like last night far more often but chosen not to use them. Doucoure has only made the side due to the accursed injuries. Without him we'd never be able to play like that as capoue and Cleverly would be shackled by having to do Behrami's running.

We also pulled off our best defensive display of the season with Wally's 4th and 5th choice centre halves.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not anti Mazzarri. I'm pro Watford so if we are winning then I am happy and as fickle as the next supporter!

But we seemed to be a slowly decaying side in the previous few weeks and in a lot of games this year, devoid of ability to play, lack or energy, will and heart, bad attitudes, bad results and we were going backwards. Our form has been sporadic.

This was a very sudden and unexpected turn around rather than a slow gradual finding of form again.

As someone earlier said, would these results have gone the same way had we played a better WBA first and then the ailing Sunderland second? Did the effect of beating an utterly poor Sunderland team actually suddenly inspire some confidence in the team?

Is that all it is, confidence?

Perhaps the return of Amrabat in the last 2 games inspired the rest of the team again or helped balance the team?

Maybe the booing after Palace really struck a chord with the players?

What can we attribute this sudden turnaround in ability to play the ball actually to one of our own players. To chase back so tirelessly. To actually look really creative going forward where we've struggled so much for 90% of the season.

Was it Mazzarri's Tactics? Formation? Maybe a little heart to heart with all of the players before tucking them up for bedtime.

    It's just baffling.

But pleasantly baffling at the moment!

    Quiet or quite?
    from English Grammar Today

Quiet /kwaɪət/ and quite /kwaɪt/ are spelt and pronounced differently, and have different meanings.

Quiet is an adjective meaning ‘making very little noise’ or ‘having little activity or excitement’:

The children are very quiet. I wonder what they’re doing? Shall I go and see?

It’s a very quiet, peaceful village and we love living there.

Quite is an adverb which usually means ‘a little or a lot, but not completely’:

I’ve been quite busy this week. I hope things are not so busy next week.

There is a fine line between, fickle and stupid. Its a line most Watford "fans" from the Walter out brigade stumble over very easliy.

Amrabat probably has made a big difference - he was player of the season before he got crocked.

But more than that, our players simply arent good enough to be consistently brilliant. That's why they play for Watford. And that's why we can beat west brom, lose to crystal palace, beat arsenal, get thrashed by liverpool etc. If they played like they did last night every week, they wouldnt be playing for us.

Blaming the manager after every defeat is pointless when you are a lower/mid table mediocre team.

Shouldn't this be merged with the Mazzarri thread in the team bus? We don't really need a thread after every game from the Walter out/Walter in brigade trying to get one up on each other, it's boring and QUITE/QUIET sad.

  20. Meh!

    Meh! Pre-Dictator

We've said this about players before, that their inconsistency is why they are not playing for better teams.

But we seem to collectively gain and lose consistency. Like the whole team can be great one week, but then the whole team fall apart the next.

Perhaps it's Dacoure steadying up the midfield. Amrabat feeding in confidence again.

One thing you can't help but notice is the lack of long ball hoofs up the field in the last 2 games. Whether that was out of Deeney not being available for Sunderland forcing us to play that way, or Mazzarri actively telling the players to not do it anymore, there is a noticeable difference in our performance when we control the ball a lot more on the ground.

I've just taken a look at Lord Stan Smith's posts when Quique was sacked. Makes for very interesting reading. If we base judgement on what he's saying in this thread, he's was just as fickle & stupid as us all back then :)

Why the comma after the word "between"? When calling people stupid you'd think it would be an idea to get the grammar right?

  23. Or, there is a fine line between, which is fickle and stupid.

The sentence makes perfect sense, so one might say it is stupid to call someone stupid because they got the grammar wrong in a sentence that is grammatically correct.

As you know, I've been 100% behind Mazzarri consistently (apart from perhaps a little wobbly after Palace).

I like him even more now. I like his passion on the touchline. I like his rebellious smoking. I far prefer him to the dour and mooching Jokanovic and the erratic and slightly odd Bepe Sannino.

For me he's only just behind Zola in the list of best Pozzo managers we've had. I think he's tactically very astute and has excellent contacts within and knowledge of the European game.

I would urge the club to give him another season next year at the very least and lets see what he can develop.

What I don't understand about all this difference of opinion is that there are some people on here that like to gloat when we win a game and state they were correct all along...but a percentage of the fans who are posting negative things about WM aren't actually calling for him to be sacked...some are, granted - but many are have just been aware that as the injuries have subsided, he has had a squad to start influencing games better long before the last couple of games. I actually read a lot of posts that don't like aspects of WM's management but are willing to see how it works out - that's not crying out for him to be fired, that's just showing concern.

Whatever way you look at it, there has been concern over his management and that won't go away just because we beat WBA (who haven't won away in 2017) and a rock bottom Sunderland, who can't buy a point at all. We played well, WM played a big role in that I'm sure. So he should be praised and some slack given to see if he can continue that. But likewise, the dire performances this season still far outweigh the great or good ones - we beat Burnley and Arsenal in 2 games and then went straight back to a turgid, horrible style of play so that's why some fans aren't getting ahead of themselves.

    I agree with this, completely.

Going have my final say on this, as I'm bored at work:

What the 'Walter in' brigade do not seem to ever understand is that a lot of people were not so pissed off about losing certain games, but rather the manner in which we lost them. We all know we're going to lose a fair share of games in this league, our players aren't good world beaters, they aren't good enough for the top teams etc. We all know that mid-table is probably where we belong (for now). But it does not excuse the fact that I can name at least five matches this season in which the manner of defeat was pathetic, where we showed little to no attacking intent, little to no commitment and little to no care.

It does seem to be turning around now, indeed, but we had very good reason before the last two games to think Walter should go. Whether you agreed or not, there were some very good reasons as to why people felt that way and those of you who can't respect that do not come across well at all.

We're all Watford fans at the end of the day, so picking arguments with fans after a victory, which we are all dead pleased about, just makes you look like an utter utter ******* to be honest!

I agree partly with you, not bothered about his smoking habits, I believe one of the most important things to be successful in life at anything is communication, if the man leading the army can't communicate directly with his charges there will be problems because they are not sure what they are doing! Who is giving the instructions, at the training ground, in the dressing room, in the debriefing sessions? Surely he should be conversant in our language to progress!

I guess what he is saying is that, with an injury hit team, it was impossible for us to attack teams without being torn apart.

We're essentially safe with many games to go, and he still has the players on side, so you'd struggle to argue he's been a massive failure.

This second half of the season is much more exciting than the dross served up under Quique. Walt hasn't always got it right, but he looks at least like a man who can form a plan b/ c when plan a isn't working - more than I can say for Quique.

The balance is between getting a more inspiring manager and one who can bring in big names. I think Walt will survive because he has ability to do the latter.

I agree with you on most points but I still think the manner in which we lost games, despite our injuries, was absolutely pathetic and we should have attacked more. You cant go into games at this level and defend for 90 minutes, unless you have a very solid defence. Even when we had players back for games like Palace away, he still chose to make us sit back.

Oh well. It does seem like he wants us to play on the front foot now, I think it's just taken him a long time to realise that. Luckily, not too long!

Its been a tough learning curve, for Walter and the new signings. Its a very hard league.

We have done well to maintain our status in the top flight once again, against all the odds.

But thats not good enough for some, who seem to think we should be in the top six.......

Stop talking out of your arse. Everyone accepts we are a mid-table team and we'll lose games but fans have a right to be pissed off when their team goes down without a fight, which has happened on a number of occasions this season.
