Fantastic game and thanks to the ref, some amazing debate happening in the pub. We should thank him as after all, that's what it's all about.

On to next Saturday where VAR continues to destroy the game by giving correct decisions. Sad!

    Seemed out of his depth.

    Grinning the whole time.

    Just pleased to be there.

Shame Holly wasn’t on the pitch to launch him into the middle of next week.

V unusual for the studio ref to disagree vehemently with the on pitch Herbert.

Get Peter Walton back on the pitch. Someone who knows how to referee.

I was behind goal for the Reading ghost goal. That will never be beaten but just seen the 2nd worse officiating decision ever.

You only over rule when 100%. Whether right or wrong there is no way he could be 100%

Disgust8ng. Apart from that thought he referred ok but what a shocker

Don’t think you were watching the game I watched

Team did well, shocking decision by the ref, even the commentators on the match were adamant that it shouldn’t have stood.

Trouble with a dodgy goal like that is it game them confidence , I’m not stupid enough to think we could have won it but for a large part of the match though we could draw. Also easy for MOTD to say stupid things like yeah it wasn’t a goal but they were always going to win ,you never know I think we could have hung on. Only downside is not sure how we are going to do them in the cup final do we go for it or sit back for 75 mins

Nice to get a goal within a min of the Gerry D and Troy coming on, think the manger got it right today but let down by a really really crap decision.

Let’s hope wolves get hammered tomorrow

The ref is like the top striker.

One touch & he settles the match.

I don't know. He liked this ref. He might be struggling emotionally with this one.

Well that shows refs favour big teams doesn't it? If the decision is made by VAR fair enough but that was 2 humans discussing without replays and the safe decision to avoid back lash was to give the goal.

Commentary on bet365 said no goal of course bbc live feed said right decision but as soon as it was given I'd knew we'd be shell shocked for 10 - 15 mins which you can't allow yourself to be against city.

Anyway at least all the teams in relegation battle won so mid table sides didn't make ground on us

Got to say, not at all disappointed. It's a privilege to even go up against players of this calibre.

I know people will talk about the goal, but for me, it's one of those where the Ref has to make a decision for the good of the game. It's 0-0 with a side sitting back and defending, but by allowing the goal, the ref has opened up the game, which has to be his priority. We've also got something to talk about, plus we get to see a hat trick by one of the world's greatest ever players.

Very happy and to be honest, as a half Man City fan, I'm pleased that my "glory" team are on top. Always tough to see two of your teams face off, but today was about my Man City and my Watford did themselves proud. So proud. Proud.

Would the ref actually have changed that with VAR? Nobody debated that Sterling was in an offside position. It was the refs bizarre interpretation of the law. Why would VAR change that opinion?

I was behind the goal for the ghost goal, and that decision was so bad I didnt really know what was going on.

This decision factored on 2 points, was it simple offside i.e. no deflection or knock on from the defender. Actually the ref got this right, it was not a straight pass to sterling. The astonishing point which the ref has the ignored is that Sterling is obviously interferring with the position he's in. Its not even contentious just wrong.

that was always the aim today. Next week we can worry about winning. Today, this was not about Watford. We were there to play a supporting role in the story of plucky Man City, coming from nowhere to snatch a chance at winning the Premiership Cup

I've been clever and have now got 2 half and half scarves. Going to cut them in half and make one watford scarf and one city scarf. Both will be unique pieces. Look out for me at Wembley with my half watford, half watford scarf.

I don’t think it would. I suppose it depends how good the dialogue is with ‘upstairs’. So long as it’s not at least available to tv audiences though there’ll be no transparency.

When all settles down - I love this manager (coach):
    BBC:

Watford manager Javi Gracia is refusing to get drawn on the decision to award the first Manchester City goal, but he's clearly frustrated by the decision.

"I think everybody saw what happened," he tells BT Sport. "I never criticise the referees and I am not going to do it today.

"I think we played very good first half, defensively perfect - collectively doing a very good performance."

We will get our revenge on City for the Sancho robbery after it is investigated.
They owe us at least £10m.
And City will be banned from Europe for FFP irregularities.

Agree but... Sometimes you need to kick a water bottle over, throw a clipboard on the floor or something and transmit that anger into the team. Not sigh and concede a second within 60 seconds.

I think our players and Javi were appealing for the handball more than the offside but nothing was really shown of that.

Shame as we did well with a 2nd string defence and hardly anyone up front.

Guess we might have lost anyway but you need a bit of luck in that sort of game - like we seem to have got in previous matches not against top 6 sides!

Seemed to give up at 3-0 a bit until Deeney and GD.

Least no-one of great important got sent off or injured by the looks of it.

I'm actually quite angry about it. It was an awful decision, there was no logical reason for him to overturn the offside yet you could see it coming as soon as he went over to speak to the lino. They showed a replay from a sort of a birds eye view and there was no way he could have had a clear view of what had happened given how far away he was and the number of bodies running in front of him.

I can certainly understand why accusations from some fans towards officials goes beyond just big club bias.

    There’s no point.
We’re not a top six team.
Javi would just get a ban.
Everyone knows the decision affected the team and concentration- you can’t seriously think they gave up trying the next 10 minutes because Javi ‘sighed’.
He didn’t, he fumes and remonstrated with the 4th official.

He gets angry every time a crap decision goes against us but he calms down for the media.
Personally I don’t know how he does it.
But he knows there’s no point kicking off against the ref or in front of TV cameras.
    It won’t change a thing.
    Respect.

I do agree but definately feel on the pitch today we lost a bit of fight for 10 minutes after the goal. We should have been spitting and getting stuck into them, but Capoue shrugs his shoulders, Gray has a chat with Walker. Holebas would have been kicking everything, fuming at the world and we miss that attitude in the team sometimes.
