[SOLD] Abdoulaye Doucoure

Now being reported Everton have had a season-long loan bid for Chris Smalling turned down.

I thought this Marcel Brands fella they bang on about was supposed to be some sort of transfer messiah?! Having bids rejected for any player with a pulse at the moment. Reeks of no plan and desperation.

 

Nah, there was a plan. It just hasn't come off. 28 and a half hours to salvage it.

If we end up with Smalling and Iwobi, that's, erm, underwhelming shall we say?

 

Surely the amount of cash Everton are spending must be seeing them sailing very close to, if not over, the Financial Fair Play limits?

I think it can almost be discounted now that you bid for Doucoure because he let it be known he’d be keen. Bidding for all these players just looks bizarre.

 

It doesn’t really get enforced anyway in the PL.

UEFA enforce it to make sure clubs are cheating their way through European competitions and the EFL enforce it to try and make sure clubs don’t spend their way to the PL. Boro are currently suing for this very reason.

The PL are happy to let clubs spend as the TV money and prize money bails clubs out who spend too much. And if the clubs go down, it’s the EFL’s problem.

 

Not so sure, I think the vast, vast majority of bids which get made only happen when the bidding club has at least been in touch with the agent of the player in question to see if they'd be open to joining, otherwise it's a waste of everyone's time

Guy I work with has a brother who works as an agent (I get the impression he's fairly junior there though), and the impression I get is that the agents are in constant dialogue about this sort of thing

 

SSN are reporting that Everton have given up on Doucoure!!

Good news for us, but Silva insisted and wasn't going to take "no" for an answer. I'm very confused by this development.

I very much doubt Everton would want to rile up any pre-existing bad blood again by continuously bidding and being rejected. It’s just asking for it to turn messy again.

I don’t blame them for testing the water. But I think it’s sensible they have perhaps learnt from past episodes on this one.

 

Embarrassing scenes for the mersey billionaires. Cant even persuade a player from a tinpot club like us that they are a big club. He even went on record to say they arent good enough for him. Unprecedented stuff. I guess he wasnt made aware of all the trophies they won 40 odd years ago.

I expect we'll.be hearing from Grooming Blade if Sheffield United win a match before Christmas. I don't think he's intelligent enough to be one of Moog's.

You mean we can't persuade you to sell the aforementioned player? No evidence at all either way about how Doucoure felt about the prospective move

 

To be fair, the BBC did report that he wasn’t interested. But that’s the only report I’ve seen that states the players thoughts either way. I think it’s agent driven - hence why the amounts bid have been made public.

Anyway - Zaha has asked to leave now. I suspect the vast majority of time, money and effort will be going into that one.

Everton and Zaha both in many Watford fans dislike lists. But money aside, that would be a good signing. I rate Zaha (I think most of us do really don’t we?)

But as I Watford fan I’m just very heppy we have kept Doucouré (touch wood). He’s a great player, I think he under performed last season, which has kept the higher bids away, if he’s ‘on it’ this season we’ll have a pretty good year, get to see a great player for another season and then probably get a huge fee next summer.

 

After we beat Everton last time round I saw Everton fans crying after the game, that's enough to put off any player joining.

 

I think I'll get over not signing him mate.

My worry was that we'd give you silly money and you'd go and sign someone at least as good for a fraction of the price - something I wish we would do rather than try to reunite Silva with a player he had for 5 minutes

Brands seems to bid for anything with a pulse so I wouldn’t be surprised if you came back in with another bid for Doucoure. I can’t imagine we will sell for anything less than 50m though.

He would certainly be more effective in a box to box role than what you have currently. I just don’t see Everton offering enough this late on in the window now. We also have no one to replace him with straight away, unless Quina steps up big time this season.

He would be a great improvement for us. I think we've got the money to spend but I wouldn't be too happy leaving other teams without time to spend it. It's the first time Everton have been in this position and I know only too well how it feels to have your best players stolen on deadline day. All the best to you lot too mate.
