I hear they were perfecting the CGI for Troys appearance in the next star wars film.

Nothing to see here, much more likely that this guy bottled himself to try and claim some of troys 50k a week (thanks daily heil). Amazing that people would dare suggest troy could be in the wrong after seeing a 6 second video (but of course is fine to say he did nothing wrong). And making judgements on a policewoman who was just trying to do her job and despite there only being 2 police in the video probably should have been handling dozens of drunk men more professionally. Troy clearly wasnt drunk in the video he was just tired because he'd been out all night drinking.

Troy also has stopped drinking, he said so himself just before he was photographed drinking at the darts. So in short there's nothing worrying about our skippers behaviour at all.

Even the publicity seeking 'victim' doesn't bother claiming Troy did anything other than 'grab his phone'

Sounds like Troy was punched and a load of handbags kicked off, during which this little **** got a minor cut on the back of his head. No one involved even alleges that Deeney threw a punch, which (if as all sources say, he was punched first) he was within his rights to do anyway

Look closely at the headline wording - "Teenager, 19, claims he was 'glassed after pestering Premier League ace Troy Deeney for a selfie"

They're doing their usual trick of insinuating Deeney did something wrong, without technically accusing him

You may or may not be right but Deeney is totally at fault for putting himself in that situation to begin with. He clearly has some aggression issues when he drinks, it`s what got him banged up after all. It's up to him if he wants to keep drinking in night clubs but don`t him come crying that he is the "victim", nor be surprised if his career isn't as illustrious as he would like. There is a reason brand Beckham endured and his off field demeanour has as much if not more bearing on that than his footballing talent.

If I hadn't read about it here, I wouldn't have known about it at all as don't bother too much with the papers as they produce so much junk for their online content it's beyond belief. Was Troy sick at the darts? Did someone get his goat at a Club at the weekend? We pay £250 for your stories........... tell us yours first!

He's scored what, 103 goals now for Watford since he joined? Pretty impressive for anyone really. I really did like the Deeney/Iggy double team last (first half) season. But for whatever reason, the goals dried up. Iggy just never got going again to his credit this season they did try to play again but just never re-discovered their partnership.

I know I'm talking past-tense here too, but does anyone know if Sordell is still playing and scoring and for which club?

Given Deeney's past, I would be a bit more circumspect before backing him and casting aspersions on the other party. At the very least, he's likely to be interviewed by the police about his role in a 3am fight where someone was glassed and needed six stitches. It might be an idea to wait until the police finish their investigation before deciding he was definitely in the right.

As for his behaviour outside, if you watch the video, the policewoman pushes a girl away from her and then Deeney steps forward aggressively right into her face, even giving her a little push back before she threatens him with the spray. Now he might have been defending a friend of his but he shouldn't be getting involved at all, and certainly shouldn't be pushing a small policewoman and fronting up to her in such an aggressive way.

I can't remember where I read it but the police have already studied the nightclub's CCTV and have given Troy the all clear. Don't forget he was assaulted by two men and has a right to defend himself (no not with a glass but no one has accused him of that).

The "girl" the police woman pushed is Troy's wife btw.

I'm not saying he's done anything wrong inside the club by the way, just don't agree with those people who seem to have already exonerated him based on some very limited information.

Watford have said themselves that he hasn't done anything wrong. I think they probably know more about it than anyone and they have said they don't even feel the need to make a statement on it. That and the snide, non-committal way that the Mail and Sun have reported it probably tell you all you need to know.

Don't think he ever said he'd completely stopped drinking but he did say this:

Ok fair enough, you got me. I did make the assumption that of the twenty or so people who've commented on this thread, none of them would personally know someone who witnessed this incident in the early hours in Birmingham. In fairness to me though, the chances of that being the case are so remote as to be almost unbelievable. Also, you could've mentioned that you had the inside track the first two times you commented on this incident. ;)

I commented once and that was before I heard it was Mrs Deeney. Personally I wouldn't know her from Adam.

Some of you should think about getting work as defense lawyer's as you are so adamant this is a "non story" based on your assumptions as to what happened.. and from newspaper articles that you are certain are made up!

Premiership footballer, with a previous conviction for violence, is involved in some sort of altercation in a club at 3am. Sorry but no matter who was the guilty parties here, that will always be a 'story' to the press.

Time to take off the Horns tinted glasses?

Because if it was Wayne Rooney or Jamie Vardy or any other footballer you'd care to mention (that didnt play for us) we wouldnt be saying 'non story'

The only reason I have even a passing interest in this story is because it involves a Watford player. Even with all of The Sun and The Mail's attempts to sensationalise it, it is genuinely one of the most dull, pointless football stories I've ever read.

I guess it's more of a story to the lad who ended up in hospital.. or to the police who have to work out what happened.

Thousands of people all across the country end up in hospitals every Saturday night and the police have to work out what has happened. I'm not interested in the majority of those stories either.

The injured claimant was injured on the back of the head, one can deduce my dear friends, that if the man was talking to Troy at the time of the incident, Troy would have been hard pushed to ascertain the adequate force and trajectory on the glass/bottle to inflict the injury to the rear of the cranium.

It is an elementary misconception that glasses and bottles are usually hit handheld over the head. Far more likely that the weapon was missile. Especially in this case where Troy was in a group of friends, One would consider that close quarter assault on a large group would entirely leave the individual exposed for retaliation and thus, as it is commonly known - "a right good kicking". It is my deduction therefore that a missile in the form of a bottle of becks, was thrown at Troy or one of his acquaintances, but ended up hitting the claimant on the back of the head.

    Elementary.

I most certainly would on what little "facts" have been published.

As far as I know being punched twice and having pepper spray pushed in your face doesn't yet fall foul of the law.

Unless you know different of course
