Sorry I didn't realise I was speaking with someone auditioning to become our next PM by giving an answer he wants to give rather than answer the question. I think it is written in English but just in case you missed it......

Do you think footballers have a moral duty to play matches because they are being paid to do so and the FA wants to complete the season?

When answering can you please not repeatedly misquote my comments and use only parts out of context which self serve your answer

    This is the precise and full quote that you meant to reference above that prompted ZZ's reply, it's pretty clear and poor;
"I am probably going to take it out of proportion but let us say Troy plays and Watford stay up. However Troy contracts the virus whilst playing and then passes it on to a member of his family who then passes away. Do you think that is fair? I am guessing you would be happy with that outcome but however unlikely this sequence of events are, it sits very uncomfortably with me."

I don't think that part is correct. If I recall at the beginning of the outbreak Deeney said he wanted the season brought to a proper conclusion but whenever it could be in front of fans.

I think I am big enough to agree that it doesn't read well and for that I apologise. What I meant however was that I am guessing that ZZ would be happy with the outcome if Watford stay up. There are however potential downsides to playing at the moment and I don't blame Troy for not wanting to put his family at risk. I hope that clears up my thinking.

True, but with a false negative rate of up to 1 in 3 tests, the virus could still be spread by those who have a false of security.

I don’t see why Deeney has refused to go back to the first stage of training that is no risk. Fair enough if he can’t get reassurances, don’t turn up for stages 2 and 3. I am not aware of any other footballer who has refused to at least to turn up for stage 1. He is not alone to voice concerns but the details on stage 2 and 3 haven’t been published, so surely at least consider them first? Those that are giving Deeney a pat on the back will be slaughtering him if we are relegated. We are in big trouble and if we are relegated, then I would expect a fire sale to follow. See Nige is being interviewed on Sky News at 5- could be worth a watch

Some might blame Deeney but most will point the finger at the lack of decent or fit alternatives in the squad if we went down tbh.

That is some way of though!

A lot of 'celebrities', including many a floppy haired millionaire footballer, will have found it hard to cope with their fall to earth and the fact that few are interested these days in what they had for dinner or what their opinions are. Deeney seems to be more well grounded than many. Good on him.

Go, don't go. Most don't really care, so it would be daft to put your life or your long-term health or that of your family at risk for the sake of bloody football. The only ever imaginary 'importance' of the flash bang wallop 'ave a bet super Sunday soccer scorcher (bet now!) nonsense has faded into insignificance. I hope it's another thing that never goes back to being the same after the crisis.

I've said before and I will say again, support and understanding for Deeney will be thin on the ground amongst WFC fans if we are relegated after beating Liverpool 3-0, after move after move breaks down upfront at the feet of Success, given we will now be without TD, GD and presumably Welbeck.

I agree with you right up to the end. I was thinking today, I don't know whether I'll bother going back to being engrossed with football.

The fact is "the relegation dogfight" is an irrelevant nonsense. It's of zero consequence in reality.

And anyway, as any good union rep will tell you, section 44 of the Employment rights act 1996 says ANY employee can refuse to attend their workplace in "circumstances of danger which the employee believed to be serious and imminent" without being subjected to any detriment from their boss. I say, no detriment Sir. That means disciplinary action of any type. Or would you like to argue that corona isn't serious or imminent?

Absolutely right. Except that he personally isn't in any serious and imminent danger. Certainly less than popping to Tescos.

Well people won't blame Deeney potentially- they will point to the lack of quality recruitment by the Pozzos or management under previous managers.

Do some think we are just making a fuss to get the season cancelled ?

He's our #1 central striker, captain and leader and he's decided he doesn't want to come to work. Any reserve striker won't be as capable as a player or have the same impact on the team.
I don't think anyone cares what impact this might have on us. We really don't matter to the PL or Sky. I genuinely don't think it would matter to them if our first XI were infected or decided not to play.

True - they will go ahead particularly as no one else has really spoken out from the top teams.

I just think people will say that the fact Deeney is still our main striker sums up the lack of quality options we have.

Do feel Troy would have said what he has regardless of our position.

Serious point, because when you start bringing in the law, potential consequences need to be considered. Do you think that any employee could justifiably refuse to come into work over the winter due to the flu being about?

Quite simply, yes. I would also say that being in a vulnerable group - including being a BAME male - or having someone vulnerable in your immediate family would be more than sufficient to consider a serious and imminent danger.

People aren't inflexible as a rule and of the job's something vital, then perhaps some brave souls might be prepared to run the risk, but not for a bloody g*me of football.

I would think that 80% of all jobs are to provide non-vital goods or services, such as football.

You missed out an important aspect of your employment law, which is the effect of "reasonableness" by both the employee in his belief, and by the employee in the steps they have taken.

I think Mapps has proved that there are no 100% guarantees regardless of what you do. Going shopping, walking the dog or even staying at home with the family, provide no guarantees whatsoever. The scientists know more than us and they are saying this is safe. If Troy doesn’t believe the scientists and medical advice and thinks he knows better then isolate in a hotel, and don’t return home until retested.

Well yes, we know for certain now who are the essential and key workers (or wealth producers if you prefer) needed to keep the country running. It would seem that your 80% figure is about right.

Something that might be considered once the virus is defeated do you think? To have 4 out of 5 workers engaged in non-essential frippery doesn't seem like a recipe for future success and prosperity, does it?

As an aside, whilst I was sweating it out, on my knees in plastic apron, suffocating mask and gloves in the past few days, you cannot imagine how thrilled I was to see the news pictures of the Shirk from Homers and Furloughed Freeloaders a-frolicking and paddling by the seaside.

Not sure if this has already been posted, but Black people are not at greater risk fro dying from Covid when other illnesses and deprivation are taken into account.

Shocking if true. To think the difference in deprivation in this country is sufficient to cause that disparity. Are we all agreed that 'something must be done' about this when the crisis is over?

Yes. Also need to look at obesity and smoking as clear link to higher death rates

    Or,

    1st Paragraph - the situation
    2nd Paragraph - the 20% vital / 80% frippery doesn't make ideological sense
    3rd Paragraph - particularly for the 20%.

  26. Clive_ofthe_Kremlin

Eh? Don't get it. You'll need to simplify it for me, Are you saying we are agreed on the 20% more of less 'key' and essential workers in the 1st paragraph? If so, good.

On to the 2nd. Ideological sense for who? Me or you? If we're agreed on the 1st para, surely it follows that 80% of workers are (or were) engaged in non-essential work which, at a pinch, we could manage without temporarily if not permanently.

As for the 3rd, I don't get that at all. Please elucidate.

Well after so many decades of being called the lazy underclass benefit scrounging workshy with our curtains closed and so on insults, I can't miss the opportunity to get a bit of my own back with a bit of reverse Daily Mailery!

Splutter! Those are MY taxes those layabouts are living off y'know! Don't WANT to work most of 'em. Oh no! Easier to sit around and get their furlough claim in I suppose. National bloody assistance! I must be a fool going to work! Good bath, a haircut and a spell of national service on the frontline fighting the crisis would do 'em the world of good. But you can't say it! Oh no, they'll shout you down. Middle Class-ist you're being they say....and so on and so on...
