We have the option to recall him until Jan 31st. At least that’s what the athletic is saying. We are considering it.

  2. Why would we bother to recall him when he's been made to look out of his depth in the champ ? Unless we are unhappy with his limited game time and want to loan him to a div one side ?

    Update re Ben Wilmot

Understand #WatfordFC preferred for him not to play for Swansea this FAC Rd as potentially could be needed with inj/susp. Currently no plan to recall, altho can be negotiated anytime up to Jan 31.

I think that’s OTT. He ‘struggled against Mitrovic’ is the only bad review I’ve heard. Swansea fans on twitter seem to rate him and every time I’ve seen him he’s very composed and reads the game fantastically.

If we're not signing another CB, I'd rather recall Wilmot and have him as a back up than rely on an incredibly rusty / perpetually injured Prodl.

CB options of Cathcart, Dawson, Mariappa, Kabasele, when Dawson and Mariappa are also being used to fill in at RB, is a recipe for disaster.

Swansea have just signed a CB on loan from Chelsea. Hopefully won't hinder Wilmot's development.

I saw Wilmot was only on the bench and decided to search Twitter (the most reliable of sources) to try to find out what the general consensus was. Seems he’s played well lately and Swansea fans are confused by the decision.

“Wilmot MOM last week now axed (shrugging emoji)

    “Don’t split a pairing that’s kept 4/6 clean sheets”

“Strange decision to drop Wilmot after the recent run of clean sheets”

“Wilmot has to feel hard done by today. Excellent of late.”

“And Wilmot must be injured? He has been excellent over the last month. Big blow with those 2 missing” (the other being Naughton)

“4 clean sheet in 6 games and he’s dropped Wilmot? Is he carrying a knock???”

“Harsh on Wilmot after the last performance he put in!”

“Dropping Wilmot after his last couple of performances is ludicrous though.”

Nothing new. Just to prevent him being cup-tied for us next season.

Their young defender Rondon was fit - guess Wilmott might have been dropped for him?

He wasn’t allowed to play in the third round as we didn’t want him cup tied, maybe that couldn’t be undone to allow him to play today!

Unused sub the last three games I think. Swansea's Chelsea loanee Guehi has taken his place.

On one hand, you'd maybe think that we would be more likely to recall him in that instance due to our CB situation as he may as well sit on our bench if he is just sitting on Swansea's. On the other hand, if he isn't good enough for mid-table Swansea, he likely isn't good enough for us at the minute.

Get him on the weights and the 5,000 calorie deeney diet. This streak of piss needs bulking up. See also: Pussetto.

These scrawny physiques are useless in english football.

I’ll leap to his defense here.
Swansea fans are almost unanimous in saying Wilmot has been hard done by and should have retained his starting place. He had a decent run in the team and formed part of a defense that kept 3 clean sheets in 4 games, then he lost his place to their new Chelsea loanee Guehi.

It sounds like Guehi is on loan there until the end of next season, so is being played ahead of Wilmot as his development is more valuable to Swansea, seeing as they can benefit from another year.

Can we recall him outside of the transfer window?

Doubt it, I meant at the tail end of the January window (didn't word it very well mind you).

I would hope so, after all he is our player, so it wouldn't technically be a transfer, or would it?

Hazard / Salah / Eriksen / Silva would suggest that you are talking out of your arse as usual

Not really surprised, I did say "I would hope so".
I admit I could have done research and found out.

  26. To be honest, I agreed with you - I really don't see why it can't be done. If they're not being used by the club they are loaned to, it seems detrimental to their prospects to have them twiddling their thumbs on the sidelines.

I may be wrong with this, but don't loan players get sent back to their parent club if they get a longish term injury?

Silva is the only relatively lightweight one out of those. Eriksen isn't big, but he still managed to brush Pussetto away like a fly twice a few weeks ago. Both Hazard and Salah are very stocky.

If you wanted to pick some examples, then other than Silva some fair ones might be Mahrez, Alli, Cantwell, Ozil and Alexander-Arnold. However, significantly these are all principally wide or creative players. Wilmot however is a CB, supposedly.

I suspect if it is a long enough term injury for them not to be able to again play for the club they are being loaned to then yes.
Means they can be treated by their parent club rather than expecting the loan club to support them.

Well letting in 4 goals against Hull isn't great whoever you are - they've just lost their 2 best players and not won since New Year's day.
