Sometimes I wonder if some of our fans get any joy from watching football.

I don't think anyone is 'slating' him. Most, like my original posting, are praising his effort and quality. But, he is FAR too often injured. And then when he is declared fit, he starts and goes off injured regularly - which disrupts the team further than it already is.

One of the better players when fit. But its nowhere near often enough.

Think he's a decent player, hope we keep him. As for all the injuries - sums up this season. Looked a legit injury to me today as he was stretching whilst chasing back. Niang on the other hand....

    Maybe has a muscle imbalance!?

Shame as I think the guy is a very useful player and more than good enough to play in the top flight.

The problem is Jossy the same thing has happened to him a couple of times already this season, which as I say in my post above suggests an ongoing weakness in that area.

I agree he is a decent player, but also he seems to be injury prone, and we can't afford to carry a player with regular injury problems IMO.

  6. Jossy

Yeah, fair enough. But I'm clutching for straws and hoping that his injury problems have been exacerbated by whatever strange methods were employed regarding the training set up, and that next season he'll spend much less time in the treatment room because of the change. I hope we keep him and find out, rather than sell him and watch him complete a season injury free for another team.

His first injury was a hell of a whack on his shoulder during the Man Utd home match in September, I know that some including myself have criticised the change in physio and MW's training methods may have exasperated the injury issues in the squad, but sometimes players get hurt due to the nature of the game and no blame can be pushed onto anyone else.

I'm slating him. He's a shirker, crap at defending and not much better going forwards outside of a few isolated moments.

He's a powder puff player with some good highlights but no consistency. More bad than good and one of the players most consistently absent during our weaker performances.

    I genuinely believe he's a weak link

Yep, and he looks better when he's fit & had run in the side. Another player apparently made of glass though, which is a shame.

Can we just sell this guy?

Great player but it's just good enough. Sell him off his name for £10 million and look for another right-back.

Well I did say I was clutching for straws...

No doubt he's a skilful player, but he does seem to be made out of glass. I noticed against Sociedad last week, and again today - that he looks a touch heavy to me and slow. Maybe against the pace of muff next week, Femenia would be the better option to start anyway.

Good player but so fragile, been injured at every club he's ever been at.

Fix him up, hold him together with bandages until January & sell him.

Janmaat has made 48 appearances for WFC, I wonder if Newcastle are owed money on his 50th game?
No more games before he's off-loaded maybe.

Maybe the reason why Gomes hasn't played either, as he's stuck on 99 games!!

I am amazed he has managed to stay fit for most of the season given our injury record and his previous history!

Rumour in Holland that Feyenoord are trying to buy the only right-back at any level in the club.

Madness if we let him go unless we have deals for three similar players lined up.

    http://www.football-oranje.com/feyenoord-working-on-janmaat-return/

According to Voetbal International, Feyenoord are hoping to bring Watford right-back Daryl Janmaat back to the club this summer.

Kevin Dijk’s return to Fiorentina at the end of the season means Feyenoord are looking for a new right-back and according to Voetbal International, they have set their sights on Daryl Janmaat.
The 28-year-old spent two years with Feyenoord before departing for Newcastle United in 2014 for €6 million. He then moved to Watford in 2016, and has went on to make 53 appearances for the Premier League side.

However, last season, Janmaat was in and out of the Watford eleven and may see a return to Feyenoord as a good chance for first team football and a place in the Netherlands squad.

Get rid. Absolutely not good enough and just like Newcastle fans said when he came. OK going forward, can put in a pretty good cross, but the defending? Well, all you can say is that he often presents no obstacle whatsoever to the opposing forward running at him. None at all. Might as well not be there.

And to be honest, I'm a bit fed up of looking at his panting face, hands on knees, with that stupid thong headband holding his floppy hair back.

Weirdly disliked by some of our fans.

A good player when fit, which is his main issue. Nowhere near as bad defensively as some make out and good going forward. I'd be disappointed if he left.

  32. wfcmoog

I don't rate him. He's had some good performances, but many meh showings and several dire outings. He's often injured and is a defensive liability and his removal is as important as Holebas' if we're to solve the issue of our gaping flanks allowing wide players free passes to bang in crosses to our box.

With our plethora of right backs, surely he can be used as an option further up the field where he's proved he has quality? We're bound to get injuries again this season, so for me he should be retained to give some strength in depth to our squad. Agree regarding his defensive weaknesses.

Why keep a full back as an attacking option though... Why not just sign a wide player (which we have plenty of anyway, Janmaat is not going to be above any of them in the pecking order)
